I think curls suit everyone – in fact, I’ll take it a step further and say: I think most ladies look better with curled hair, it softens the features and adds volume to thin or limp hair. Obviously I’m not referring to Little Bo Peep curls – I’m talking about soft curls, wavy curls, natural curls, tousled curls, beachy curls, afro curls, messy curls…there are so many to choose from and you are bound to find the perfect curl that complements your hair texture and features.
Let’s rewind to 2011, before I knew what curls could do for my facial features – most of the time, I wore my hair in a ponytail or a bun. If you have ever seen me with my hair in a ponytail, you will know that it does absolutely NOTHING for me – especially since I don’t have a forehead, I have a fivehead. I look older when I wear my hair in a ponytail or a bun and I started to notice this whenever I saw myself in a photograph. I then started researching various curling irons online because I was determined to make a change (plus I was obsessed with Kim K curls back then).
It sounds pretty vain, I know, but we all go through ‘improvement’ phases in life. This was my ‘superficial improvement’ phase and I’m owning it!
Back to the subject at hand, it took me quite a while to get used to the idea of a curling iron (my very first curling iron was a 1 1/4″ Pink Hot Tools Titanium curling iron, which I still love to this day) and my hair definitely did NOT look all that great the first few times I used the curling iron. But I kept at it and eventually I got the hang of it. I’m planning on doing full hair tutorial video for you guys soon, using my trusty Hot Tools curling iron but today’s blog post is about my review and demo YouTube video on the BaByliss Curl Secret (which by the way, is a lot easier to use than a curling iron).
This hair curling tool is perfect for beginners, trust me. It does all the work for you – it’s user-friendly, quick & easy to use and creates long-lasting curls. In the video I show you exactly how to use the Curl Secret, what pre-and post-styling products I use and I tell you what I like and dislike about the Curl Secret.
Please let me know whether you found this video to be helpful, I tried to keep it as short as possible but still informative:
I mentioned under the information section of the video that I would add a few close-up photos and mention a couple more likes and dislikes for the Curl Secret in this blog post, since I have thought of additional points I would like to add.
See? Two temperature settings (| and ||) & three timer settings (8, 10 and 12 seconds).
So in addition to the likes and dislikes mentioned in the video, here are additional ones that I forgot to mention:
♥ The Curl Secret creates long-lasing curls, as mentioned in the video my hair does not hold a curl very well. When I curl my hair with a curling iron, my curls will last for about a day (if I pin my curls). If I don’t pin my curls, they last for about 5 hours. With the Curl Secret, my curls will last for 1,5 to 2 days. And when I use smaller sections of hair & finish off with the Fudge Urban Iced Raspberry & Vanilla hair spray, my curls last for 3 days straight (no jokes!!).
♥ The 2,5m swivel cord is another thing I like, if there’s one thing I can’t stand it’s struggling with a short non-swivel cord that keeps winding up shorter and shorter.
♥ Sleep mode function, the Curl Secret will go into sleep mode (the temperature will drop down to 50 degrees Celsius) after 20 minutes of non-use. Who is useless at turning off heating tools? *raises hand* I am!
♥ If the Curl Secret is switched on longer than 60 minutes, it will automatically switch off (since curling a full head of hair usually only takes 15 – 20 minutes).
♥ My curls do feel a tiny bit more dry when using the Curl Secret BUT that is only because my Hot Tools curling iron is titanium and compared to ceramic curling tools, my titanium curling iron always gives me softer, shinier curls.
I hope you enjoy the video, I’m definitely starting to enjoy filming and editing videos a lot more. My next video will be a makeup tutorial on the eye-look I was wearing in my Empties video. It seems quite a few of you liked the makeup I was wearing in that video, so keep a lookout for that.
