A big thank you to the beautiful Lily from ‘Beauty With Lily’ for nominating me. I love reading her blog because she is probably one of the sweetest people I know. Lily’s blog posts range from stunning fashion styling posts, to ‘Battle Of The Boxes’ unboxing posts. Lily recently also started her own YouTube channel and I’m loving her videos because her voice is so soothing. I could listen to this girl talk all day long!
This tour is a means of getting to know bloggers in a different way – what they are working on at the moment, whether they plan ahead in terms of blog posts, what they think makes their blog different etc. I’m supposed to pass the ‘Writing Tour’ baton on to some of my favourite bloggers but I never tag anyone specific when it comes to tag posts because I know a lot of the bloggers I follow, don’t really do these types of posts. And I don’t want to force them into doing something they don’t usually do on their blog, you know? So, as always I am tagging / nominating anyone who reads this post & would like to do a ‘Writing Tour’ blog post of their own. Send me an email, tweet me, tag me & let me know when you’re blog posts is up, I’d love to check it out!
All you need to do is acknowledge the person who invited you (that would be me), answer the 4 questions below, and nominate 3 bloggers to follow (remember to tag their blogs when you nominate them and explain why you are nominating them). If you feel like me, and do not want to nominate anyone, that’s absolutely okay as well.
What am I working on?
I am currently working on my ‘Online Shopping 101’ blog posts, and let me tell you, they are taking a lot longer than I anticipated. There is so much knowledge I have gained over the past couple of years that I want to share with you guys, and it’s so difficult because everyone is so different. I’m writing the blog posts for people ranging from total newbie online shoppers to accomplished online shoppers. I’m almost finished with my first blog post where I tell you how the process works, what to look out for in terms of shipping & delivery, how to search and buy on eBay etc. My second blog post will feature all my favourite online shops (both local & international) and favourite eBay sellers – why I like them, whether they have free worldwide shipping, what brands they stock etc.
This probably sounds very mundane to my blog readers who are not from South Africa, but trust me, South Africans are still quite anxious about putting their credit card details out there on the world wide web. A lot of people here don’t know how the whole online shopping process works, and I know this because I receive a lot of emails every week from both Pink Peonies blog followers and random strangers who just happened to come across my blog when they searched for something on Google.
How does my work differ from others of its genre?
Hhhhmmmm…tough question… People always comment on how beautiful my photos are but since this is a ‘Writing Tour’, I guess photos don’t count. I try to keep my blog posts light and humorous, whilst also being informative and honest. I’m definitely NOT saying my honesty is a distinguishing factor, most definitely not. I try to give my blog readers a reason to return to my blog – whether it’s for the photos, reviews, humour or just to check in and see what new products are launching to us South Africans each month.
Also, I write long blog posts and have heard this from various people before. And I guess that’s also something that makes my blog a little bit different to other blogs (whether that’s a good or a bad thing, I don’t know).
To be honest, I have no idea why you guys return to my blog every other day to read my posts. Honestly…no idea.
Why do I write what I do?
I’m passionate about beauty products, and I am one blush away from becoming a card carrying member of Hoarders Anonymous. I love telling you guys about new products I’m testing out, products that I love (and why), products that are not worth the money (and why). Blogging has become a very big part of my life – it’s a way to be creative, something I can call my own, and a place where I can meet like-minded people who I might later in life get to call my friends.
How does your writing process work?
I used to work from a blogging calendar, I would jot down and plan most of my posts a month in advance. But now that I am going to a lot more events, and I am receiving a substantial amount of products from brands and PR companies each week, I find a blogging calendar that is planned so far in advance doesn’t work for me anymore. This is because if I work from a blogging calendar, I can’t blog about a new product I’m testing that I received just the other day or a product that I REALLY liked after only using it a couple of times (this is mostly makeup and nail products). So for the time being, I just take photos, sit down and write in one go. Other blog posts (like my ‘Online Shopping 101’) take a bit longer to write and get rewritten over a number of days. I do try to have a regular posting schedule – Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (but I am trying to post even more regularly than that). Trying being the operative word there…
I tend to think about blog post ideas during my morning shower or right before I fall asleep at night. Sometimes I have ‘blogging brain’ and I’m unable to fall asleep until 02h00 in the morning because I am thinking of so many things I want to blog about and do with my blog. It drives me absolutely dotty sometimes!
So, there you have it! A peek into how my whole writing process works… As mentioned above, if you do this post on your blog, please send me the link as I would love to read yours.
