If you’re a regular here on Pink Peonies blog, then you probably already know I am a huge fan of subscription boxes. You can take a look at all the subscription (and non-subscription) boxes I’ve unboxed over the years here. Needless to say I was super excited when I received an email from the folks at Date Night Box asking if I’d be interested in reviewing one of their boxes. I say “one of their boxes” because they have SO many boxes available – not just date night boxes. There are boxes like:
♥ Mommy-To-Be Box
♥ Father’s Day Box
♥ Mother’s Day Box
♥ Coffee Lovers Box
♥ Chefs’ Night Box
♥ Movie Premiere Box
…and many, many more! Trust me when I say, the boxes sound absolutely amazing and you don’t have to be in a relationship to order most of these boxes. I’d be happy to share the ‘Indoor Picnic Box’ with a friend, or the ‘Game Night’ box with family members.
Date Night Box is a fairly new business – when they started out, their mission was to help couples rediscover the importance of date night by making it fun and easy. We all know life can often get so busy that we tend to forget about spending quality time with a partner / friend / family member. Not to mention planning a special date night…and that’s where Date Night Box comes in. I kind of wish they could change their name to something a bit more generic, as not all of their boxes requires one to be in a relationship.
These days, Date Night Box provides couples / families / friends with a unique way of enjoying quality time together. You choose the mood (romantic, fun, relaxing or delicious) and Date Night Box will provide a box filled to the brim with all the things you need to enjoy some rewarding time with your loved one(s). The fun lies in opening the box to reveal a surprise activity that will allow you reconnect with the most important people in your life.
Spoiler Alert: I loved this box so much, I ordered their ‘Movie Premiere Box’ and it arrived last week. If you want, I can review that box for you as well? Let me know in the comments section below.
What I REALLY like about their service, is that it’s NOT a subscription service. You buy your chosen box once-off, so there are no recurring payments involved.
I’ve reviewed many curated boxes in my day (you can check out previous unboxing blog posts here), and to date, this is definitely the prettiest box I have ever received. Everything arrived in a branded box and when I opened it up, the first thing I noticed was all the beautiful colours. All their boxes are couriered, and the delivery fee is included in the cost of the box. Speaking of costs, each box has a different price i.e. their ‘Indoor Picnic Box’ is a bit more expensive than their ‘Pamper Kit Box’. Here’s how it all works:
Step 1: Log-in or Sign-up.
Step 2: Select your package / box.
Step 3: Complete your profile, this process takes a few minutes as they need all the information to fully compile your perfect date / fun family night. Then pay for your box via EFT or credit card.
Step 4: Date Night Box plans, curates, compiles, and ships your date experience to your doorstep.
Step 5: Plan your special date & enjoy!
If you have any questions regarding the various boxes, pricing etc – head over to the Date Night Box Facebook page and leave a comment with your question, they’ll get back to you in a jiffy!
So, when the box first arrived I left it as-is, waiting on the kitchen counter. Neal and I set up a date for the weekend, and we agreed to wait until then before opening the box. I love gifts & lucky packets, so having to wait for almost 3 days nearly killed me!
We received the ‘At Home Box’ with the specific ‘Chefs Night’ theme (the price of this box is R575,00). Here’s what was included in the box:
♥ 2 x Date Night Box Aprons – Both aprons are pink (which I love), and Neal didn’t really mind wearing a pink apron. But, perhaps they should consider doing 1 x pink apron and 1 x blue apron in future because I know some men might not feel comfortable wearing a pink apron.
♥ 2 x Drinking Straws
♥ 1 x Lindt Chocolate Truffle Box
♥ 1 x Mixing Spoon
♥ 1 x Pancake Mix
♥ 1 x Illovo Maple Flavoured Syrup
♥ 2 x Eggs
♥ 1 x Carton Long Life Milk
♥ 1 x Measuring Jug
♥ 1 x Ceres Sparkling Red Grape Juice
Neal and I had so much fun making the pancakes, and we gobbled them up while watching a movie on TV. I love sparkling grape juice, so that was a nice surprise as well!
One thing I would like to see in the Date Night Box kits next time, is an informational card / pamphlet. I’m used to receiving a card inside these monthly curated boxes listing what is included in the box, as well as the value of each item. Having a list of the products also ensures that the receiver of the box knows exactly what is supposed to be included in the box. For example, I wondered if the box was perhaps missing a small container of cinnamon sugar because some people might prefer a cinnamon topping (not a syrup). A recipe card or something similar would also have been nice because I didn’t know whether to add the entire container of long life milk. But other than that, I think this box was a fun way to spend some time with Neal – and I get to keep the 2 beautiful pink aprons forever!!
I didn’t take a photo of the pancakes, because 1. Neal and I couldn’t wait to start digging in; and 2. my pancakes didn’t look like the ones you see on Food Network. The first few are always a flop (but they’re my favourite ones to eat) and by the time we finished making the pancakes, we were ravenous.
As mentioned earlier, I bought the ‘Movie Premiere Box’ and received it a couple of days ago. Let me know in the comments section below whether you would like to see a review on that box as well? I haven’t peeked at it yet, because Neal and I like to open these types of boxes together. He also loves opening boxes that contain PR samples of beauty & lifestyle products with me, we’re two peas in a pod – both of us love opening up gifts.
I think any Date Night Box would make a perfect wedding gift for a newly married couple – they do have a ‘Gift Voucher’ option available, so the newlyweds are able to choose which box they would like to receive.
Overall I am super impressed with the curation, the packaging and the contents! I absolutely love the idea of these boxes, they create the perfect opportunity to really just spend time with a loved one. These days we live in such a rushed world, we often tend to forget the person closest to us (whether it’s a partner, friend or family member).
