Tame Frizzy Hair With Kérastase Discipline

Kerastase Discipline Review

Let’s face it, my hair is very needy during the Winter season – most things need a little extra TLC during the colder months because Winter can be brutal.  As you all know, there are many things I love about Winter…homemade soup, snuggly socks, hot drinks before bedtime, dark vampy nails & lip colours, and cuddles under a fluffy blanket while watching a movie on TV.  Dehydrated, straw-like strands that create a halo of dull frizz and like to expand into outer space is not one of them.

The answer?  Arm yourself (or rather your hair) with some sort of insulation.  Hair stretches, expands and changes its protein bonds when wet, and the same happens to hair when exposed to changes in the environment.  When you style your hair it will keep its shape until affected by humidity or static electricity, then the hair will revert to its natural state.  During a Winter’s day our hair can be subjected to indoor central heating, a cold and dry outdoor climate – wind, rain and even snow (it’s actually snowing in certain parts of the Eastern Cape today!).  All of these different environments expose our hair to varying levels of humidity and static charge.

Winter garments (scarves, beanies and hats) also make the frizz situation worse because they create friction that leads to a crown of fuzz.

The Discipline line from Kérastase does exactly what the name would suggest – it tames the frizzies, plus smoothes over the cuticles of the hair and adds shine.  The result?  Hair that knows the meaning of obedience and respect.  *cracks whip*  The collection of products is designed for all hair types, but you may want to exercise caution if you have extremely fine hair.  The running theme with all Kérastase products is that a little goes a long way (you’ll hear me saying that a few times in this blog post), because they are so concentrated.  This is actually good news, because it means your hair care products will last much longer.

The Kérastase Discipline collection of products will also work wonders for your hair during the hot & humid Summer months.  My hair gets extra frizzy & ‘poofy’ when there’s moisture in the air after a storm, or even just because it’s hot & humid outside.  That means the Discipline line will help to tame your tresses and control the frizz during all seasons of the year.

Kérastase is known for their heavenly scented hair products, and beautiful packaging.  I think most of you know I have a rose gold obsession, and this line definitely wins the award for ‘Most Elegant Packaging’.  As for the fragrance, it’s an uplifting floral scent – a mix of roses and freesias.

♥  Kérastase Discipline Bain Fluidealiste (R 270,00) – A gentle shampoo that leaves my hair manageable and comb-ready without the need for a detangling spray.  My hair is left feeling silky smooth because of the emolient formula.  I found even though this is not the Sulphate-free version (there is a Sulphate-free counterpart available as well), it is safe for use on my colour-treated and sensitized hair.  Only a small R2 coin amount is needed, it rinses out easily and leaves my hair feeling super clean (but not over cleansed).

♥  Kérastase Discipline Fondant Fluidealiste (R 325,00) – An anti-frizz conditioner, which has become a firm favourite of mine.  This is a daily conditioner that has all of the smoothing & frizz-fighting ingredients contained in the shampoo, but with added lipid agents to coat the hair and provide even more frizz protection.  My hair is left feeling silky smooth and smelling like a fresh bouquet of flowers.

♥  Kérastase Discipline Maskeratine (R 425,00) – A rich and creamy hair mask that gives you maximum frizz control and extreme softness.   It also contains optimized starch for increased manageability and helps to facilitate blow drying.  I like to alternate between this and above mentioned conditioner.  During the winter months, it’s always a great idea to treat your hair to a deep conditioning treatment at least once a week (depending on how often you usually wash your hair).  This helps to replenish the moisture, which tends to get depleted from things like the cold Winter air and the dry heat in your house / office.

♥  Kérastase Discipline Fluidissime (R 295,00) – A translucent no-rinse hair serum spray that fights static, reduces friction, amplifies shine and even provides thermal protection up to 230 degrees Celsius.  It also contains a surface protector to help detangle the hair making it smooth and soft.  Don’t overdo it with this spray though – again, a little bit goes a long way.  Spray section by section throughout the lengths of your towel-dried hair and then blow dry.  I don’t know if it’s all in the mind, but I think this also helps my hair styles last longer.  Retail Box has the best price on this one.

I have been using the Kérastase Discipline line for almost two months and I must say this is by far the most nourishing hair care range I tried so far.  I don’t like to mess around with hair products that don’t work (especially when it’s a high-end brand) – since using this range of products, my hair has been so much more manageable, I’ve noticed less frizz and have spent less time styling my hair.

I’m sure you are wondering which products are my absolute favourites because most people won’t be able to invest in all 4 products.  I would recommend the Kérastase Fondant Fluidealiste (conditioner) and the Kérastase Fluidissime (hair serum spray) – let the conditioner sit on your hair for a bit longer than the packaging says to give your hair an extra nourishing treat.  And as for Fluidissime, I think it’s a great multi-functional product because it’s a heat protectant, detangler and hair serum all in one.

You can get your hands on the Kérastase Discipline products online at Everything HairRetail Box, and selected hair salons nationwide.

These beautiful babies need to come home with me. I love rose gold too but what it can do for my hair is the reason I need it. Besides anyone that reads this post wont be able to resist.

The is not your regular dischem or clicks priced shampoo and conditioner but like you said a little goes a long way and the results are amazing.

I definitely need to try this then, sounds like something I really need. My hair has been going puffy lately….not sure why…I thought I got these coloured locks under control and to know their place, apparently not! he he.

I have so many retail box products at this stage, not sure when I can justify buying new hair products! Maybe if it goes on sale on one of those sites… :)

I know I’ve mentioned before, but also try the Joico products out if you get the opportunity…. that stuff is really amazing. Mine almost done and I’m heartbroken!

    • Luzanne 24 July 2015 / 18:40

      Maybe it’s the pregnancy hormones?

You and me both, I have so many hair care products but I find myself always gravitating towards certain brands and products – Kerastase is definitely one of them. 😉

I’ll check out Joico products next time I’m in need of a new shampoo & conditioner. x

Kerastase products are incredible and wonderfully concentrated.this range sounds like a dream come true with those frizzy nasty bad hair days.

    • Luzanne 24 July 2015 / 18:41

So true, I love that you only have to use a teensy bit of product. Makes it last so much longer than other drugstore shampoo & conditioners. :)
