Spring is here! Flowers are blooming, birds are visiting my garden and we’ve even had our very first rain storm of the season. Why not kick the season off with a review of the Morgan Taylor limited edition Spring & Summer 2015 collection called ‘Ooh La La’. The collection features some of my favourite nail polish shades – flirty, whimsical, romantic and feminine hues. CEO and founder of Morgan Taylor Lacquer, Danny Haile, says: “I’m always inspired by Paris – from its romantic essence, iconic art and architecture, to its fashion trends. For this collection, we developed a colour palette around this theme using soft to lavish shades filled with vintage charm.”
This limited edition collection features 4 nail polishes – 3 opaque creme shades that glide on smoothly, and a sparkly glitter top coat. I’ve already mentioned quite a few times that I prefer these mini sets compared to purchasing full-size nail polishes. Not only because it’s a budget-friendly option as you usually get 4 mini polishes for the price of 2 full-size bottles, but also because I will most likely finish a mini size nail polish bottle way before a full sized version which means I won’t run into any ‘thick-and-gloopy-polish-problems’. Miniature nail polish sets are not readily available in South Africa (especially the OPI and Essie 4-packs), so I always jump at the chance to get my hands on these limited edition sets from Morgan Taylor.
I mentioned this little set in my recent ‘Drugstore Beauty Haul’ video, you can take a peek at that video here.
Let’s take a look at some swatches, shall we?
Amour Color Please – A vibrant fuchsia pink with a super fine blue shimmers. I really, really like this one because I don’t own any other nail polish shade that is this bright and cheerful with a pearlescent blue shimmer. The formula is great too, very smooth and fully opaque in just one coat.
Cancan We Dance? – Another very unique little polish! I would describe it as a punchy coral with the same periwinkle shimmers. In bright light this polish leans more towards being a neon orange, and in low-light areas it looks like a pink-toned coral. We have another one-coater here, and the formula is absolutely sublime.
Postcards From Paris – Such a gorgeous Tiffany-blue turquoise shade. This is a flat creme polish (it contains no glitters and no shimmers) and it reminds me so much of Essie Mint Candy Apple. It borders on being a minty green shade but looks a bit more blue on my skin tone. The formula of this one is quite thick and yet I needed to apply two coats to achieve full opacity.
Escar-Go To France – My favourite from the bunch! This is a clear-based glitter polish that features pastel pink, periwinkle blue, white, metallic rose, and holographic silver glitters in various sizes. It’s a party in a bottle! The swatch you see above is 2 coats of Escar-Go To France on top of a white base coat.
I’m definitely a smitten kitten for the Morgan Taylor Ooh La La collection. I’ve always wanted to spend a holiday in Paris – nibbling on a baguette and various cheeses, sitting on a bench staring up at the Eiffel Tower and sipping on a glass of good red wine. *sigh* I’m sure I’ll get there one day… Right now, though, I’ll settle for wearing these beauties on my fingertips – I’m wearing Amour Color Please with Escar-Go To France as an accent nail – such a beautiful combo!
You can find this 4-piece mini set at selected Dis-Chem stores retailing for R 199,00. Each mini polish contains 5ml, which is impressive when compared to a 3,75ml OPI mini polish. If your local Dis-Chem store doesn’t have this in stock anymore, you can still find it in the Dis-Chem online store here.
Isn’t this just the perfect nail polish collection for Spring?
