Review & Swatches – Morgan Taylor Ooh La La Collection

Morgan Taylor Ooh La La

Spring is here!  Flowers are blooming, birds are visiting my garden and we’ve even had our very first rain storm of the season.  Why not kick the season off with a review of the Morgan Taylor limited edition Spring & Summer 2015 collection called ‘Ooh La La’.  The collection features some of my favourite nail polish shades – flirty, whimsical, romantic and feminine hues.  CEO and founder of Morgan Taylor Lacquer, Danny Haile, says: “I’m always inspired by Paris – from its romantic essence, iconic art and architecture, to its fashion trends.  For this collection, we developed a colour palette around this theme using soft to lavish shades filled with vintage charm.”

This limited edition collection features 4 nail polishes – 3 opaque creme shades that glide on smoothly, and a sparkly glitter top coat.  I’ve already mentioned quite a few times that I prefer these mini sets compared to purchasing full-size nail polishes.  Not only because it’s a budget-friendly option as you usually get 4 mini polishes for the price of 2 full-size bottles, but also because I will most likely finish a mini size nail polish bottle way before a full sized version which means I won’t run into any ‘thick-and-gloopy-polish-problems’.  Miniature nail polish sets are not readily available in South Africa (especially the OPI and Essie 4-packs), so I always jump at the chance to get my hands on these limited edition sets from Morgan Taylor.

I mentioned this little set in my recent ‘Drugstore Beauty Haul’ video, you can take a peek at that video here.

Let’s take a look at some swatches, shall we?

Morgan Taylor Amour Color Please

Amour Color Please – A vibrant fuchsia pink with a super fine blue shimmers.  I really, really like this one because I don’t own any other nail polish shade that is this bright and cheerful with a pearlescent blue shimmer.  The formula is great too, very smooth and fully opaque in just one coat.

Morgan Taylor CanCan We Dance

Cancan We Dance? – Another very unique little polish!  I would describe it as a punchy coral with the same periwinkle shimmers.  In bright light this polish leans more towards being a neon orange, and in low-light areas it looks like a pink-toned coral.  We have another one-coater here, and the formula is absolutely sublime.

Morgan Taylor Postcards From Paris

Postcards From Paris – Such a gorgeous Tiffany-blue turquoise shade.  This is a flat creme polish (it contains no glitters and no shimmers) and it reminds me so much of Essie Mint Candy Apple.  It borders on being a minty green shade but looks a bit more blue on my skin tone.  The formula of this one is quite thick and yet I needed to apply two coats to achieve full opacity.

Morgan Taylor Escar-Go To France

Escar-Go To France  – My favourite from the bunch!  This is a clear-based glitter polish that features pastel pink, periwinkle blue, white, metallic rose, and holographic silver glitters in various sizes.  It’s a party in a bottle!  The swatch you see above is 2 coats of Escar-Go To France on top of a white base coat.

Morgan Taylor Ooh La La Collection

I’m definitely a smitten kitten for the Morgan Taylor Ooh La La collection.  I’ve always wanted to spend a holiday in Paris – nibbling on a baguette and various cheeses, sitting on a bench staring up at the Eiffel Tower and sipping on a glass of good red wine.  *sigh*  I’m sure I’ll get there one day…  Right now, though, I’ll settle for wearing these beauties on my fingertips – I’m wearing Amour Color Please with Escar-Go To France as an accent nail – such a beautiful combo!

You can find this 4-piece mini set at selected Dis-Chem stores retailing for R 199,00.  Each mini polish contains 5ml, which is impressive when compared to a 3,75ml OPI mini polish.  If your local Dis-Chem store doesn’t have this in stock anymore, you can still find it in the Dis-Chem online store here.

Isn’t this just the perfect nail polish collection for Spring?

    • Luzanne 10 September 2015 / 17:52

  15. Lucinda Singh 10 September 2015 / 13:02

Aww how beautiful are those colours… loving CanCan We Dance :)

    • Luzanne 10 September 2015 / 17:53

I think I am going to get a lot of use out of these little polishes during Spring and Summer. 😉

  16. Simone Cameron 10 September 2015 / 15:06

I rushed to sorbet once to grab some from the cinderElla collection and only once I’d paid I saw the mini set and remember what you said. I really wish I’d rather done that…plan to do that going forward. I’ve got way too many bottles of nail polish that I won’t make a dent in.

That sparkle top coat is gorgeous! Love it.

I haven’t painted my nails in 3 weeks…oh the horror *sobbing face *

    • Luzanne 10 September 2015 / 17:56

My nail polish collection is overflowing, so I am going to make a point of only getting these mini sets. I’ll only buy full size polishes if they’re REALLY stunning or limited edition.

Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll get round to painting your nails as soon as Adam is a bit older. He’s such a cutie, though, I would totally rather take care of him instead of painting my nails. 😉

  17. Tjoppie 10 September 2015 / 17:02

Totally agree, gorgeous colours for Spring!

  18. Arrie 11 September 2015 / 16:12

The glitter one is so gorgeous and so is the fuchsia pink – I don’t think I own a pink as lovely as that. I also love the mini sets, I really wish all nail brands would do them. They’re also easier to travel with, although I might be the only one who takes nail polish on holiday :/ X

  19. PORTIA FIELIES 15 September 2015 / 10:23

I love the glitter one, I am definitely gonna try it

  20. Yolande 11 November 2015 / 12:12
