Review & Swatches – Essie Fall / Autumn 2015 Dress To Kilt Collection

Essie Dress To Kilt Fall 2015 Collection

Happy Monday, everyone!  I’m back from a short holiday in Cape Town & I feel bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.  We visited all our favourite places in Cape Town and I’m happy to report I managed to keep myself in check the few times we hit the shops.  I only bought a few goodies – I don’t think I’ll be filming a haul video but might do a cheeky little blog post.  We’ll see…

Today we’re chatting about the new and utterly fabulous Essie Dress To Kilt Fall / Autumn 2015 nail polish collection.  I am so happy Autumn is upon us (and I can definitely feel a chill in the air) because I can start wearing darker polishes & lipsticks, and before you know it Winter will be nipping at our cheeks.  If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ll know Winter is my favourite season.  There’s just something about an electric blanket, soft chunky slipper socks, warm sago pudding, a good book and a cup of tea.  That, right there, is my perfect Sunday afternoon on a cold Winter’s day.

While we’re on the subject of Winter and food:  Have you tasted the Smoked Bacon & Orange Sweet Potato Soup (R 34,95) from Woolworths?  It’s just perfection.

I attended the Essie South Africa press launch a couple of weeks ago and received the most incredible box filled with their latest nail polish collections.  When I opened the box, my heart literally skipped a beat!  The box contained the Autumn 2015 collection, Winter 2015 collection (so stunning), and the Bridal 2015 collection.  So, you can expect review & swatches blog posts on those collections too!

The Fall / Autumn 2015 collection from Essie is called their ‘Dress to Kilt’ collection.  It encompasses all of the trends we saw walk down the runway, bringing them right to your fingertips.  The collection consists of 6 trendy, yet Autumn-appropriate shades and will allow you to go bold with a splash of cobalt blue, or keep things understated with a muted shade of taupe.

Let’s take a look at swatches of the shades:

Essie Fall In Line Dress To Kilt

♥  Fall In Line – a muted khaki green shade that is both smooth and opaque.  This is such a beautiful transition shade for Autumn!  If you’re not ready to bust out the super dark & dramatic shades, then this is the perfect shade for you.  ‘Vested Interest’ from Essie is a spot-on dupe for this one.

♥  Dress To Kilt – this is the namesake of the collection, a bold & seductive classic red shade.  This is my favourite shade in the whole collection and I’m very happy to report it’s a one coater too!  It’s gorgeous – super glossy and I’ve been wearing it for the past 2 weeks straight!  You can check out my latest YouTube video to see it in action.

Essie Partner In Cirme Style Cartel

♥  Partner In Crime – melted chocolate.  On your fingertips.  This is a rich, deep chocolate brown shade that is insanely pigmented.  This shade surprised me the most as I didn’t think I would like it as much as I do (I’m usually not into chocolate shades).

♥  Style Cartel – an eye-catching dark cobalt blue shade.  It’s not a creme formula but more of a jelly formula, and let me tell you:  It’s so shiny / glossy, it almost looks like you’re already wearing a top coat.  Because it’s a jelly, you do need to apply 2 coats but once it’s on, it’s just perfection.  I don’t own any other navy blue that is as bright as this one (and I own a lot of nail polishes), it really is a very unique shade.  Sometimes dark navy blue polishes can tend to look a bit black, but ‘Style Cartel’ looks rich & bright in any light (indoor or outdoor).

Essie The Perfect Cover Up Take It Outside

♥  The Perfect Cover Up – a dark teal that is super opaque, you can get away with applying only 1 coat of this polish.  It’s very similar to ‘Mind Your Mittens’ from Essie but ‘The Perfect Cover Up’ is just a bit brighter and a tad more teal.

♥  Take It Outside – a beautiful neutral taupe gray shade.  The formula of this polish is great, it’s not streaky  and looks 100% opaque with 2 coats.  I personally think this shade is perfect for all year ’round, not just for Autumn.  It’s similar to ‘Chinchilly’ from Essie, but just a little bit lighter.

Essie Fall 2014 Collection

Final thoughts on the collection?  Essie really hit the ball out of the park with this collection – the shades cater for so many different tastes, styles and skin tones.  If you’re someone who loves muted office-appropriate shades, then ‘Take It Outside’ and ‘Fall In Line’ will be up your alley.  If you’re looking for bright & glossy shades, then check out ‘Style Cartel’ and ‘Dress To Kilt’.  And if you’re the type of gal who wants to jump right into wearing dark & vampy shades, then ‘The Perfect Cover Up’ and ‘Partner In Crime’ are straight up your street!

The Essie Fall / Autumn 2015 collection is available at selected Dis-Chem, Clicks and Foschini stores & beauty salons, or online at Zando with a retail price of R 125,00 per bottle.

At the moment I’m wearing a chocolate colour similar to the “partner in crime” but its a little darker, such a pretty colour! Very autumy!

    • Luzanne 21 April 2015 / 21:31

So true, it’s perfect for this season! I think it will be the next colour I wear on my nails. :)

Baie, baie mooi….Ek dink ek verkies Morgan Taylor nou (ook danksy jou!), maar hierdie kleure is pragtig…

    • Luzanne 21 April 2015 / 22:04

Ek is baie bly jy hou van Morgan Taylor – ek is altyd so bly om te hoor wanneer mense produkte wat ek voorgestel het geniet. 😉 Jy is heeltemal korrek, die Herfs kleure is baie mooi!

Oh Luzanne, you know how to steal a girls heart early on a Monday morning. Not only with beautiful nail polishes but you drop a hit of nibbles as well. Im definitely trying out that soup it sounds amazing.

Ok so these nail polishes I mean there is nothing more you can say. They kinda speak for themselves. I think Fall in Line, The perfect cover up and Take it outside are my favs.

Looking forward to the blogs post of what you bought in cape Town as of course the other nail polish collections (lucky girl).
PS. I like that you drop hints of something to eat as well.

Bwahaha! Loved this comment – thanks, Carmen! :)

I had the soup again yesterday for lunch and it was just divine… Last year during Winter the Woolies Creamy Chicken Noodle & Corn soup was my fave but this year I can just see it’s going to be this bacon one… Life is better when bacon is involved – am I right, or am I right!?

  4. Luna Lacey 20 April 2015 / 09:37

Having a slight obsession with Take It Outside, I think its my kinda shade :)

*Speeds off the Woolies to grab soup 😉

    • Luzanne 21 April 2015 / 22:11

It’s definitely my kinda shade too, especially with this time of the year! :)

Gosh, you are going to LOVE that soup!

  5. Chantelle 20 April 2015 / 10:30

I love ALL of these colours. Just a bit hesitant about the ”Fall in Line” one, but hey, you never know.
The ”The Take it Outside” colour is by far my favorite colour. I love the Nude look.

Enjoy your day. Lots of love!

    • Luzanne 21 April 2015 / 22:13

‘Fall In Line’ is stunning in person, I really love it!

I don’t eat bacon so that will be the first food info tip that I have to skip…he he. No reason that I don’t eat bacon/pork….I just don’t.

Love all these swatches, the colours are stunning and the picture quality as well. I saw another blog post and thought only 3 really spoke to me, but with these pics, I honestly want to try every single shade now.

Can’t wait to see the ‘cheeky’ CT mini haul post!

    • Luzanne 21 April 2015 / 22:17

But bacon tastes sooo goooooood, Simoneeee… 😉

Your comment truly made my day, thank you! I was having a bit of a ‘meh’ day and your comment definitely brought a smile to my face. 😀
