I’m going to make a bold statement: This is probably my favourite essie collection to date! While everyone is already focused on Spring makeup and beauty collections, I’m very happy to take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the Cashmere Matte collection. Even though this new collection features a Winter-inspired palette, I honestly think most of the shades are are perfect to wear all year round. I’ll definitely be sticking with these soft, feminine shades for at least a few more weeks before properly jumping into full-on Spring manicure mode.
The essie Cashmere Matte collection features 6 stunning matte finish nail polishes, 4 of which have a gorgeous duochrome shimmer finish and 2 are cremes. What I like about these nail polishes, is that they dry super fast and they are very easy to work with (unlike other matte polishes, the formula isn’t streaky at all). I have faint ridges on my nails and I find these level out really well, and do not accentuate uneven textures on the nail.
How long do they wear on the nails? They are matte polishes, and so they don’t last as long as something that has been sealed with a top coat. But these dry so quickly, you can always redo a chipped nail or two and you’ll be good to go in no time at all.
The whole collection is beautiful as is, in their satin matte finish BUT they are absolutely stunning when topped with a glossy topcoat. Trust me, especially the ones that contain the duochrome shimmers! With a topcoat, ‘Spun In Luxe’ looks like a sparkly galaxy of tiny blue stars (it’s one of my favourite polishes in the collection).
All the shades in the essie Cashmere Matte collection are so soft, smooth, satiny and beautiful – prepare to swoon, ladies…
Spun In Luxe – A jet black base with vibrant royal blue & teal shimmers. This is my number 1 favourite shade in the collection, which is strange because I usually gravitate towards pastels and soft, muted shades. The formula of this one is great, it’s smooth and evens out to an opaque finish in 2 coats. I like ‘Spun In Luxe’ as a matte, but I LOVE it with a top coat. Just look at those sparkles! *hearty eyes* The shimmers aren’t that prominent in the bottom swatch photo, but trust me, it looks stunning in person!
Comfy In Cashmere – A mauve-toned taupe, with bright lilac & aquamarine shimmers. This is one of my favourite shades in the collection. When the polish is matte, the shimmer is subtle, but it really pops when you add a top coat. The shimmer gives a beautiful lustrous finish to the polish, and under bright light they really stand out. The smooth formula of this little polish makes it easy to apply, I used 2 coats for the photo above.
Just Stitched – Oooooh, I love this one! A warm and cozy baby pink with micro-iridescent blue and silver shimmers. The finish of this polish is so soft & squishy, it reminds me of a marshmallow! It is slightly more sheer than the others in the collection (3 coats needed for full opacity), but the finish is so plush and smooth. It’s a stunner as is (matte), but adore this even more with a shiny top coat – the sparkle catches your eye so much more. This feminine shade will suit all skin tones, and I think it is the perfect all-rounder polish for work and play.
Wrap Me Up – A flat, matte bone coloured creme that is both whimsical and elegant at the same time. This one also reminds me of a fluffy powdered marshmallow – clearly I’m hungry. It’s an eye-catching neutral that will look beautiful on all skin tones, especially deeper skin tones. ‘Wrap Me Up’ is easy to work with and fully opaque in 3 coats. I kind of wish it also had the same turquoise shimmer that some of the others do, but it’s still gorgeous nonetheless.
All Eyes On Nudes – A dark camel tan creme shade that contains no shimmers. I must admit, I prefer this one with a glossy topcoat because it intensifies that nude undertone. The formula of ‘All Eyes On Nudes’ is good, I used 2 coats on for the swatches you see above. This café au lait neutral shade reminds me of Kim Kardashian for some reason, so if you have an olive or darker skin tone, this shade will look beautiful on you.
Coat Couture – A muted grey-toned purple with bright turquoise shimmers. Like ‘Comfy In Cashmere’ the shimmers tend to be on the subtle side when matte, and more vivid with top coat (even though the swatch photo above does it absolutely no justice!). The formula on this one is good, very nice consistency and easy to apply (2 coats for full opacity).
The essie Cashmere Matte collection is exclusive to Foschini and is in-store right NOW. Retail price is R 125,00 per bottle!
I’m so happy to see that essie is releasing more unique polishes, I’ve seen photos of a Cashmere Matte Brights collection online and I’m hoping it will come to South Africa soon. Remember, essie is a US-based brand and their seasons are the opposite of ours (when we have Summer, they have Winter etc). That’s why we as South Africans sometimes either receive certain collections later in the year, or we might receive a Winter collection during Summer. It doesn’t happen that often, but it’s something to bear in mind.
If you like neutral polishes and mattes, then you are going to love these cashmere-inspired shades.
P.S. I was going to take the photos with a 100% pure cashmere sweater backdrop, but then I remembered I’m not that fancy – I don’t own a single cashmere sweater (or scarf for that matter).
