Review – NEW Dove Purely Pampering Coconut Milk With Jasmine Petals

How do you like to spend your ‘me time’?  You know, that special time on weekends or in the evening when you take time to pamper yourself?  My ‘me time’ is whenever I sit down to read a book (better yet, read it in bed); or whenever I go to a spa / salon to get a facial, body wrap or pedicure; and of course, whenever I take a long hot shower at home.  It’s the little things in life, right?  I can’t afford to go to the beauty salon every single month, so I like to give myself a good ol’ pamper session at least once every 2 weeks (but I always try for once a week).  This usually happens on a Sunday when I have a bit more free time – there’s always a manicure & pedicure on the cards, and I like to double-mask (i.e. apply a clay-based purifying mask first, and then follow it up with a nourishing / hydrating mask).  All these help me to feel more relaxed, less stressed, and ready for the week ahead.

As for those long hot showers I mentioned earlier, the Dove Purely Pampering body washes make my evening routine that much more special, and usually turn my bathroom into a ‘spa-throom’.

I’ve been a Dove fan for as long as I can remember – the very first product I was introduced to, back when I was still in school, was their Beauty Bar.  I think it’s their creamy, heavenly scented formulas that keeps me coming back for more…  Remember when I feature one of their Purely Pampering body wash variants in my ‘Best Of Beauty 2015 – Body Care’ (annual favourites) blog post earlier this year?  Since that serendipitous discovery, I always make a quick stop in the body wash aisle to see if there are any new Dove variants available.  Their products are, no pun intended, purely pampering (okay, maybe that pun was a little bit intended).

Dove South Africa recently launched their NEW Purely Pampering Coconut Milk With Jasmine Petals Body Wash and Purely Pampering Coconut Milk Beauty Cream Bar.

To celebrate this new variant, I was invited to an interactive sensory journey at Sandton City this past weekend.  If you follow me on Instagram or Snapchat (my username: pinkpeoniesblog), then you would have seen a short video and a handful of tweets on this unique experience.  Dove transformed one of the lifts in Sandton City Mall into something that resembled standing in one of those ‘open showers’ looking out onto the Amazon Rainforest.  Honestly, the whole experience blew my mind!  When I first arrived at the elevator, I was a bit hesitant…I didn’t know what to expect.  Inside the lift, it looked like a shower – complete with shower head, bath towels, and a couple of the new Purely Pampering Coconut Milk With Jasmine Petals products.  Once the doors closed, the sensory journey began – it was amazing!  Three of the four ‘walls’ inside the elevator were transformed into video screens.  Once I stepped in (facing the back ‘wall’, which is now a screen), it looked like the lift started moving up, and after a couple of seconds a gorgeous rainforest appeared.  I could hear birds chirping, while jasmine petals floated down around me, and then I heard the glorious sound of pouring rain.  While all this was happening, I could smell a soft fragrance of coconuts and jasmine.  Trust me, this was an experience I will never forget!

Dove also shared the love with the public, ANYONE was able to experience this sensory journey for themselves (plus there were also goodie bags containing the new Purely Pampering Coconut Milk With Jasmine Petals products).   Sharing is caring, right?

So, I’ve been using the new Purely Pampering Coconut Milk With Jasmine Petals Body Wash for the past couple of days, and below I’ll be sharing my thoughts on this new variant from Dove South Africa.  But before I start chatting about the products, let’s see what Dove has to say about them:

“With the right body wash, you can nourish your skin and protect it from dryness right from the start of each day, as well as taking advantage of one of the best ways to relax at home.  Dove Purely Pampering Coconut Milk with Jasmine Petals Body Wash brings you gentle cleansers and delivers skin natural nutrients along with a fine coconut milk and jasmine scent to help you pamper yourself for a few moments each day.  This Dove body wash is moisturising, mild, and helps your skin to maintain its natural moisture as you wash. The unique NutriumMoisture technology gives you softer, smoother skin after just one shower, and the mild formula helps your skin to maintain its natural moisture as you wash.”

There are 3 reasons why this is probably my favourite Purely Pampering variant to date: 1. The formula contains coconut milk (if you’ve been reading my blog for a while, then you’ll know I love anything and everything coconutty); 2. The packaging is pink; and 3. The creamy, yet floral scent is very comforting.

I remember opening up the Purely Pampering Coconut Milk Beauty Cream Bar (which also contains the jasmine petals scent) when I hopped into my car after the event, and was surprised by the scent.  The entire car filled up with the most amazing subtle jasmine fragrance, mixed with coconut notes and I could still smell hints of it when I reached home.

The fragrance is intoxicating (in the best possible way), the jasmine petals give it a soft, clean, floral scent and the coconut milk adds a subtle decadence.  The coconut essence is not overpowering at all, it’s a comforting scent that is combined with a beautiful flowery blend – very feminine and fresh.

As for the formula of the body wash, it looks and feels like a body lotion but lathers up once it comes in contact with water.  It’s thick & creamy, and feels super silky on the skin, but leaves no residue or greasy film behind.  A teaspoon amount is enough to create a luxuriously fluffy lather with a pouf, and I’m happy to report the lather rinses off easily and leaves the skin looking (and feeling) smooth and supple.  The formula contains Dove’s NutriumMoisture technology, which is based on the technology found in the Dove Beauty Bars (but in liquid form) and is enriched with additional lipids.  The mild cleansers (suitable for even sensitive skin) remove dirt and oil from the skin, while lipids work to restore the skin’s moisture barrier.

The Dove Purely Pampering Coconut Milk With Jasmine Petals Body Wash is very hydrating – it often slips my mind to apply body lotion after my morning shower, and I have found this body wash helps to retain moisture in my skin.  If I’m in a hurry, I can skip my body lotion without having to worry that my skin might look dry and ashy.  Plus the creamy feel and fragrance lingers softly throughout the day!

My bathroom cabinet is filled to the brim with body washes, shower oils, soap bars, and in-shower moisturisers, but i can definitely see myself neglecting all of them for the time being – the Dove Purely Pampering Coconut Milk With Jasmine Petals Body Wash is somewhat extraordinary, and I’m in love.

The Dove Purely Pampering Coconut Milk Beauty Bar contains comforting coconut milk with the warm, soothing scent of jasmine petals.  It combines gentle cleansers with Dove’s traditional 1/4 moisturising cream.  I haven’t used the soap bar yet, but every now and again I catch a subtle whiff of jasmine florals and decadent coconut milk. The open box is currently sitting on my desk (right here where I write my blog posts) because I like to give it a good ol’ sniff whenever my mood needs a bit of a lift.

If you’re in the market for a delectable, yet fresh & floral body wash – simply pop in to any major stockist nationwide.  Go ahead…lather up and indulge away

I know… 🙁 I couldn’t find it again either! I asked Dove about it when I was at the ‘sensory journey’ event, and they said sometimes Dis-Chem can get hold of certain variants that are not available anywhere else in South Africa because they buy it directly from the supplier overseas. Obviously the stock is limited then, so it’s usually a one-time once-off thing. 🙂

I have this body wash and I love it – it really makes my skin feel unbelievably soft and smooth. Even my boyfriend has been using it when he showers at my place (although he pretends he’s just using the regular Dove Beauty Bar on my soap dish).

I just wish that the scent was a leeeeeeeetle bit more coconutty…

Haha!! I should check if Neal has been using mine… 😉

I quite like that the fragrance isn’t TOO rich & creamy, but I totally get what you’re saying. 🙂

Hi Sharlene, it might be the fragrance in the soap that’s causing your breakouts. Maybe try to stick to the original Dove Beauty Bar (the plain white one) to cleanse your face with. 🙂
