Review – Bourjois So Laque Glossy Nail Enamel

Bourjois So Laque Glossy

I mentioned the new Bourjois So Laque Glossy nail polishes in my Product Popping Up – July 2014 blog post.  I was very excited to hear about these new polishes, specifically because they are enriched with vinyl & resins to make nails shine and prevent chipping – who doesn’t love long-lasting, glossy manicures?  I know I do!  There are currently 7 beautiful Spring and Summer inspired shades available in the Rendez-vous à Paris collection, ranging from a soft ballet pink to a hot neon coral.

What Bourjois says:  Shiny, neat and full, glossy colour for up to 10 days!  The formula is enriched with twice as much vinyl and a complex of highly reflective resins for ultra shiny nails with a long-lasting hold.  The fixing agent in the formula keeps your nails supple, ultra shiny and highly resistant for up to 10 days.  With a range of pure, lacquered shades there is no need for sparkles or shimmer, just smooth, shiny and purely colourful nails.

My review:  I currently own 3 of the 7 shades available – BC Beige, Peach And Love and Adora-Bleu.  As with all Bourjois nail polishes, these are formulated without using formaldehyde, toluene, DBP, acetone or phthalates.  I wouldn’t go as far as to say these nail polishes last for 10 days without any chips, but I am happy to report that I have tested out all 3 shades and found them to last for around 5 days with no chips.

These polishes definitely live up to the ‘high shine’ claim, as I have tested them out with- and without a top coat.  Even without a top coat these give a super shiny finish to your mani but since I always use a ‘quick dry’ top coat, I found these polishes took a bit longer to dry (which is normal).  I adore the brushes of these Bourjois polishes because they are the perfect shape and size for quick and easy application.

I have found that each shade has its own characteristics (if one could call it that) and because of this, I’m going to review each shade individually.

Bourjois BC Beige

BC Beige is a grey-toned neutral creme shade.  I found BC Beige to be quite sheer and a little bit streaky, but you can get away with 2 thicker coats for full opacity.  It is unfortunately my least favourite shade but only because I have a slight pink undertone to my skin and find nude / neutral nail polishes with a pink undertone (think ‘Essie Topless & Barefoot’ or ‘OPI My Very First Knockwurst’) suit my skin tone best.  If shades like ‘OPI Did You Ear About Van Gogh’ and ‘Essie Sand Tropez’ excite you, then this shade is definitely for you!

Bourjois Peach And Love

Peach And Love is a stunning milky peach blush creme shade.  I am so in love with this shade and after posting a photo of me wearing Peach And Love on Instagram, I could see I was not the only one.  I was completely flabbergasted by how many likes the photo received after only a couple of hours!  I bought this shade whilst on holiday in Cape Town (you can take a look at my Beauty & Lifestyle Haul YouTube video here) and now I want to get my fat little fingers on 2 additional shades.  If you look at my Instagram photos on the left, you can see I am wearing Peach And Love in the second photo from the top.  I would classify Peach And Love as a medium opacity polish, as I only needed 2 coats for full opacity.  It applies like an absolute dream and isn’t streaky at all.

Bourjois Adora Bleu

Adora Bleu….and we have a one-coater!  I was so impressed by this shade when I first swatched it and can confirm that only one thickish coats is needed for full opacity.  Adora Bleu is a pretty periwinkle milky blue shade, it contains no shimmer and is an absolute breeze to apply as it is not streaky in the least.

The price:  R 95,95 at selected Clicks stores.

Disclaimer:  I received both BC Beige and Adora-Bleu for review purposes but you guys know the drill, all reviews are always 100% honest.

Bleached neons (toned-down neon shades) are going to be hot this Summer, and I think Peach And Love and Amande Defilé (the minty green shade) are the perfect shades to rock during the warmer months ahead.  As mentioned I am going to get 2 additional shades from the collection:  Amande Defilé and Oh So Rose (the baby pink shade).

Ooooh, these are all pretty! Especially Peach and Love and Adora-Bleu!
Gosh I wish we had Bourjois!!

    • Luzanne 20 August 2014 / 10:51

Stunning, aren’t they? I can’t believe you guys don’t have Bourjois products over there, such a pity! But at least you have Tarte, NARS, Urban Decay, Bath & Body Works, Origins, First Aid Beauty, Too Faced, Anastasia etc. – haha!! 😉

They look similar to Essence in terms of packaging. Sorry an unrelated question, I remember reading this in a post, which product do you use on nail polish that had become thick to make it thin again? Thanks x

    • Luzanne 20 August 2014 / 10:47

They do, don’t they? :) It’s called Essie Fluid-e, I’ve seen it at Stuttafords and a couple of Dis-Chem stores (but it’s not in all the Dis-Chem or Stuttafords stores). x

Love these colours! Adora Bleu and Peach & Love are my favourite ones as well. The neon coral shade sounds beautiful, I might just go take a squiz during my lunch break today. x

    • Luzanne 20 August 2014 / 10:45

Great! Let me know if you pick the coral shade up – from what I’ve seen online in terms of swatches, it’s stunning! :)

  4. Zee Mohlapi 20 August 2014 / 09:29

Wow, all 3 are beautiful! I think Peach & Luv and the Beige ones will look beautiful on my skin. Do you know if Clicks have a 3 for 2 special on Bourjois products, Lu?

    • Luzanne 20 August 2014 / 10:45

I just checked for you, Zee, and they don’t have the 3-for-2 promo on Bourjois products BUT they do have a promo where if you spend R 200 or more on Bourjois products, you get a free pair of sunglasses (and they’re pretty decent-looking sunglasses too!). :)

Love that you are so open and honest about what products are sent to you for review and I know we never have to worry about dishonest reviews when it comes to you, Luzanne. It’s a breath of fresh air tbh. ♥

    • Luzanne 20 August 2014 / 10:41

Thank you for this comment, Hannah – it really means so much to me! x
