Quick & Easy International Online Shopping – Aramex Global Shopper

Online-Shopping-South-Africa

As an avid online shopper, I’ve had my fair share of fun and games when it comes to shipping & delivery of my international parcels.  If you’ve ever tried importing goods into South Africa using our postal service, then you already know the process is rather frustrating.  From postal strikes, to parcel slips just not being delivered to post boxes, to unhelpful SAPO employees.  In 2013 and 2014 when postal strikes were a very regular occurrence here in South Africa, I stopped placing international online orders.  I can’t tell you how many of my parcels were lost in transit, how much money I lost because I couldn’t claim from the sellers and how stressful it was.  Try tracking a handful of international parcels that all at the same time, and finding out that once they arrived in South Africa they somehow disappeared.  And not a soul at the post office or the SAPO track & trace department can locate it.

You better hope your parcel isn’t detained at customs, because that’s a whole ‘nother ball game.  You then need to provide customs with an invoice from the original seller.  This happens when a seller does not specify the value of the parcel or they didn’t include an invoice when they sent the parcel.  Customs will hold onto that parcel until you have provided them with an invoice.  Last year Neal waited for almost 7 months for one of his parcels to arrive in South Africa, only to find out it was detained at customs.  He then stood in a queue for 5 hours (there were no chairs to sit on) to have his parcel released.

The following series of events have happened to me at least 4 or 5 times last year, imagine this:  You’ve been lusting after the LORAC Pro Mega eyeshadow palette for quite some time, and eventually you decide to take the plunge and order it online.  Fortunately the online store does ship to South Africa, but they only offer USPS shipping (via postal service).  Luckily you are able to trace your parcel, so you excitedly wait for it to arrive in South Africa.  Once it has arrived you trace it to Johannesburg, here’s where the trouble starts.  It sits somewhere in Johannesburg for 4 days, then 6 days, then a week.  You spend all that time tracing it, and all you can see is that it is currently still in the same location (no updates).  You start phoning your local post office, they give you the track & trace department’s phone number but no one answers the phone. Ever.  Three weeks go by, and your frustrations are at an all-time high.  You visit your local post office only to be told that there’s nothing they can do to help you.  Another week goes by, and finally you receive a parcel slip in your post box.  But wait…the stamp on the slip says it has been at your local post office for 4 WEEKS!?  You go back to your local post office only to be told the parcel was sitting there on the shelf for too long, so they sent it back to the original seller.

I eventually made the decision to stop placing international online orders, unless I could have the parcel couriered to South Africa (which is extremely expensive in some cases, I remember Nordstrom wanted to charge me R800,00 to ship a $45 eyeshadow palette to me).  Not many international online stores offer courier delivery, so I haven’t had the pleasure of shopping that much lately.

Until now.

Allow me to introduce you to Aramex Global Shopper

When Aramex Global Shopper reached out to me a couple of weeks ago to do a sponsored blog post on their shipping service, I can’t lie, I did a massive fist pump!  This is exactly what us South Africans have been waiting for!  Aramex Global Shopper is a shipping service that allows you to shop online here, there and everywhere.  All you need to do is sign up for the service (I have a discount promo code for you at the end of this blog post) and ensure your parcel is sent to 1 of their 14 hubs around the world.  These hubs are based in Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Malaysia, Singapore, Spain, Turkey, UA E, UK and USA.  When you sign up, Aramex Global Shopper will send you an email containing ALL your personalised addresses, plus an account number.  Once you’ve placed an online order with your favourite online store, the parcel will be sent to their local address.  For example if you place an order with ColourPop, the parcel will be sent to the US-based Aramex Global Shopper delivery address.  After 3 to 6 days, that very parcel will be delivered straight to your front door.

I have lusted after so many Tarte and ColourPop makeup products, Quay sunglasses, Bath & Body Works candles and FINALLY I am able to order from them, plus Aramex Global Shopper’s shipping rates are very reasonable too.

Here’s what you need to know about Aramex Global Shopper (AGS):

♥  This service is available to anyone who lives in South Africa, Botswana or Kenya.

♥  Orders are automatically shipped to South Africa as soon as they arrive in your Aramex Global Shopper account, thus you are not able to combine orders to all be sent at one time.

♥  There is a once-off $45 (about R600) lifetime membership fee BUT I have a 78% discount code for you, so if you decide to sign up the lifetime membership fee will only cost you $10 (around R 133,00). Remember, the pricing is in dollars because they are an international shipping company.

♥  Use coupon / promo code AGS10PINK to discount the once-off $45 sign-up fee to $10 (please note this code is valid until the end of April 2016), if you sign up after this date, you will be charged the full $45 sign-up fee).  Click here to sign up.

♥  Aramex Global Shopper offers a money back guarantee if you’re not satisfied with their service within the first 12 months.

♥  You can pay via 2 options:  Credit card or Paypal.  I personally prefer to pay using Paypal.  If you’re not sure what Paypal is, click here to read my detailed blog post on ‘Online Shopping 101’.

♥  Aramex Global Shopper insures shipments up to the value of $100 (+- R 1330,00) for free, it’s part of the service they offer to their customers.  If a shipment is lost or damaged, Aramex Global Shopper will fully compensate you equal to the package’s invoice value.  You can opt to pay $1 per additional $100 value for parcels that are worth more than $100 but it isn’t mandatory.  Still, I think it’s great that they offer this service at all.

♥  Their service includes paying any customs charges on your behalf, that means taking the frustration of delays and dealing with customs out of your hands completely.  What a relief!  They will simply upload the charges to your account for you to pay before they make your delivery.

♥  Their website is so easy to navigate, plus they even supply you will nifty online tools to make your life easier.  There is a ‘Rate Calculator’, a ‘Currency Converter’ and a ‘Track Your Shipment’ tool.  So you can calculate the shipping rates etc. before you place your online order, it allows you to make the decision whether the purchase (plus shipping) will be worth it.

♥  Once you’ve created your account / profile you can access a list of your personalised international addresses, track your parcels and settle any outstanding payments, see previous shipments, check service updates i.e. info on public holidays overseas that might delay delivery, edit your profile (address etc), update your payment options, change your password , and check the status of any queries you may have logged.  It really is an all-in-one dashboard.

♥  Aramex Global Shopper will also send you a PDF document that includes all your personalised address, plus a long list of customs & duty fees per category.  For example:  Beauty supplies = 20% customs duty, books = 0% customs duty, iPad = 0% customs duty, toys = 0% customs duty, iPhone = 7% customs duty etc.

Here’s how it works:

1.  Once you have registered with Aramex Global Shopper, you will receive 14 personalised physical addresses in New York, London, Shanghai, Istanbul, Dubai, Mumbai, Hong Kong, Frankfurt, Milan, Barcelona, Paris, Singapore, Ontario and Malaysia.  You can use these addresses to shop from the US, UK / EU, China, Turkey, UAE, India, Hong Kong, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Singapore, Canada and Malaysia.

2.  Head over to your favourite online store and add the products to your online basket – the world is your makeup and fashion oyster.  Think about online stores like Target, Soap & Glory, BeautyBay  etc.

3.  When you checkout (your basket that is), enter the AGS forwarding address in the country you are shopping from.  For example, if you order from Soap & Glory based in the UK, then you would input the AGS London physical address as your delivery address.  Make sure you also add your Aramex Global Shopper account number to the address, because they to know which account they should allocate it to once it has arrived at their hub.

4.  Your shipment is now ready to be processed by Aramex and delivered to your door within 3 to 6 business days.

5.  You will receive an email once the shipment arrives at the AGS facility.

6.  Once the parcel leaves the AGS Fulfilment Center and makes its way to your home address, you will be notified via email that the ‘Pay Now’ feature is available.  This means you are now allowed to pay for your shipping fees online for added convenience!  You can also pay for any customs duties and taxes incurred along with the shipping fees when paying for packages via ‘Pay Now’.

7.  Once all the fees have been paid, Aramex will personally deliver your parcel to the address specified in your online profile.

Aramex Global Shopper shipping rates to South Africa:

Zone 1 Countries – Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Malaysia, South Africa, Spain, Singapore, US, UK

♥  Shipping Rate for first half kg: R 175,00

♥  Shipping Rate per additional half kg thereafter: R 99,00

Zone 2 Countries – Turkey, UAE, India

♥  Shipping Rate for first half kg: R 131,31

♥  Shipping Rate per additional half kg thereafter: R 74,30

Duties, clearance and customs fees:

♥  If Customs & Duties exceed R 1000,00 (not the value of the parcel) – a 2.5% disbursement fee will be charged

TOTAL CHARGE:  Per parcel, you will pay the shipping rate of +- R 175,00 plus the clearance fee of R 50,00 plus the customs & duties charges which is +- 20% (for makeup & beauty products) of the value of your parcel.

Top Tip:  Ask your friends / family members if they would like to combine an order and split the shipping & customs fees.

I know some might think the shipping fees are a bit steep, but think about it: You will receive your parcel in 1 week, you don’t have to deal with the post office, or customs AND you can now basically get your hands on anything you want.  I know there are A LOT of my blog readers who will be thrilled to hear about Aramex Global Shopper – I receive at least 10 emails per week from both men and women asking me how they can get their hands on brands like Too Faced, Anastasia Beverly Hills, IT Cosmetics, Caudalie, Deborah Lippmann, Hourglass and the list goes on.

PROMO CODE:  In case you missed it, the promo is AGS10PINK and it is only valid until the end of April 2016.  So if you sign up with Aramex Global Shopping after April 2016, you will be charged the full $45 sign-up fee.  Please note: I am not an affiliate, thus no percentage of the $10 fee will be paid to me.  Click here to sign up.

So, here’s where I need your help!  I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the possibilities, because there are SO MANY online shopping orders I want to place.  But with Christmas around the corner, I need to keep myself in check.  I want you to help me choose where I should place my first orders, I’m going to show you all the goodies I’m interested in and I would appreciate your opinions / suggestions.  I obviously can’t place 10 orders right now (although I would love to!), so I need to whittle my list down to 1 or 2 orders for the time being.  Ok, let’s take a look:

Tarte-Holiday-Collections

Oh, Tarte…  *sigh*  I have been waiting for this moment for what feels like a lifetime…  I’m a bit obsessed with Tarte makeup at the moment (their blushes are THE BEST blushes I have ever used), so my first order will probably include 1 of these beauties.  What I love about this brand is during the time leading up to the festive season they have all these amazing holiday sets available.  And usually these sets are so much more cost-effective than purchasing each product separately, plus the special holiday sets are also limited edition.  Tarte and Too Faced always steal the show with their holiday palettes!  Here we have Tarte Petite Treats Deluxe Collection ($43, value is $130), Tarte Light Of The Party Collector’s Makeup Case ($59, value $394), Tarte Tartelette Palette ($45) and Tarte Bling It On Amazonian Clay Blush Palette ($44, value $110).

Too-Faced-Melted-Kisses-Sweet-Cheeks

I also have hearty eyes for this Too Faced Melted Kisses & Sweet Cheeks set ($36, value $60).

Bath-Body-Works-Candles

Then Bath & Body Works, I really want to place an online order with them too.  I have lusted after their candles since I started watching YouTube videos back in 2011.  For my first order, I think I will only get their mini candles and travel sized shower gels.  Just to see if their scents are actually something I enjoy, thereafter I will invest in larger candles.  But remember: Shipping is charged per kg, so don’t go nuts with the candle orders, ladies.  Spiked Cherry Limesicle (above) is on sale for $11 (was $22) and their mini candle promo is 3 for $12.  Have you ever wanted to smell a ‘Pumpkin Pie’ Bath & Body Works candle?  Or the ever so popular ‘Leaves’ candle that everyone loves?  Well, now you can.

Bath-Body-Works

How cute are the Bath & Body Works shower gels and hand soaps?  They currently have loads of promotions and sales items in their online store too.

Colour-Pop

ColourPop products are also very high up on my ‘To Buy’ list.  Especially since Shaaanxo and KathleenLights collaborated with them a while ago.  ColourPop is a relatively new brand, I think they launched last year, but their Lippie Stix and eyeshadow pots have already achieved cult status.  Within a matter of months, EVERYONE was talking about their products mainly because their eyeshadows have a very interesting texture, plus their products are so affordable as well.

Colour-Pop-Lippie-Stix

Their Lippie Stix and eyeshadows are only $5 (+- R66,50) each.  I definitely won’t be able to buy all the shades in the above photos, but I just wanted to show you what’s out there.

Don’t forget about drugstore brands!  Have you been eyeing the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer for the past 2 or 3 years?  What about the L’Oreal La Palette Nude eyeshadow palettes that are supposedly dupes for the Urban Decay NAKED palettes?  Yep, like I said:  The world is you oyster!

What do you think?  For now, I’m only able to buy 1 palette (or kit) from Tarte and 1 small order with Bath & Body Works OR ColourPop.  What should I get?  Once I have placed the orders, I will keep you updated on my experience i.e. delivery times, shipping & customs fees etc.

Please bear in mind:  This is a completely new concept to me too, and I can’t tell anyone with certainty what customs / duties charges will be for each package.  I’m in the same boat as all you girls, and we all learn as we go along.  I promise I will keep your updated with regards to my experience, which online stores I was able to order from etc.

Gone are the days when us South African beauty girls were stuck behind the computer, salivating while YouTubers spoke about their favourite products.  Now we can order limited edition collections, holiday kits and luxury brands with the click of a button and in the comfort of our own PJs.

{UPDATE}  A few of my blog readers have been having problems placing orders on Sephora because Sephora doesn’t deliver to forwarding companies like Aramex.  I placed an order with Sephora last week Thursday and my order unfortunately didn’t go through (Sephora didn’t deduct the money off my bank account either, but a couple of people have told me Sephora deducted the money off their bank accounts but refunded the full amount again).  I also placed an order with ColourPop and Bath & Body Works and both orders went through with no issues (my ColourPop order has shipped already).  I checked the Sephora website before I placed my order and nowhere does it state they have shipping restrictions with regards to forwarding companies like Aramex.  I asked Aramex to clarify 2 queries for me, here is their feedback:

My question: If a website says they do not ship to freight forwarders does that mean we can’t use your service?

Aramex answer: This happens if a website is sophisticated enough to identify a freight forwarders address, it usually occurs with global brand websites that have agency agreements in place in different countries around the world.  I had this exact experience with Oakley.com in USA, who would not fulfil my order – so I went to Oakley.co.uk and they processed and shipped my order.

My question: Apparently Sephora & ULTA do not accept international orders because you are not able to use a South African credit card or Paypal when you place an order with them – is this true?

Aramex answer: Again, this could be true and for the same reasons above.  Many payment gateways identify credit card origin, mostly from a credit card fraud perspective and can then stop a sale happening.  There are ways around it – register on http://www.usunlocked.com for a US-based credit card number, in this way their payment gateway does not identify a foreign credit card number.

Fortunately there are many other international online stores that do stock Too Faced, Tarte, Origins, Bumble & bumble, First Aid Beauty etc. – we just have to find the ones that will ship to Aramex hubs.  This is all very new to me too, so I didn’t even know some online stores are unwilling to fulfil orders that need to be sent to a forwarding company.  I will do a bit more research and will keep you updated on the orders I place over the next few weeks.  Remember, if you sign up and you are not happy with the service from Aramex (or you feel it’s not worth it) you can always cancel within 12 months and they will refund the sign-up fee to you.

This is absolutely brilliant! My husband and I are also avid online shoppers and we’ve experienced exactly what you went through. We were lucky on one occasion where Ebay refunded us and then a few months later we received the package. Thanks so much for the promo code! Happy shopping :)

    • Luzanne 20 October 2015 / 09:33

      You’re welcome, Deborah. :)

      • Deborah 26 October 2015 / 19:35

I just placed an order with beautybay.com. They accept PayPal! When you put in the zip code it automatically picks up the Aramex address, which hopefully means it’ll work! Fingers crossed!

        • Deborah 27 October 2015 / 17:20

Nope :'( They also don’t ship to freight forwarding addresses.

          • Luzanne 27 October 2015 / 17:51

Ag no!! I’m placing an order with Macy’s tonight, will let you know if it goes through.

          • Deborah 28 October 2015 / 08:32

I contacted beauty.com and they say they do ship to freight forwarding addresses but it’s at our risk. I think I can finally get that Naked palette! 😀

          • Deborah 28 October 2015 / 10:30

And beauty.com is linked to drugstore.com 😀 I’ll let you know how my order works out as well.

      • Deborah 4 November 2015 / 08:33

My beauty.com order has shipped! And best of all they have a 20% off everything sale at the moment. I had to create a US Unlocked account (which was a bit of a mission but worth it in the end). The only problem is that they separated my order into 2 shipments (because some of the items are on back order).

I think i have died and gone to online shopping heaven. What os this real. I dont have to wish and hope about the products i see on youtube and instagram

I could kiss you for this. I mean that in the most respectful way.

Im definitly getting the candles( they have the autumn and christmas range i will love in winter) colour pop shadows and lippies and soap and glory. Lord have mercy. I havent been on the site yet but i have been wishing and hoping for a while. My list is so long. Everytime i see something on youtube i add it to my list.

Ok so is there a certain number of people that can use the code or is it the more the merrier?

    • Luzanne 20 October 2015 / 11:53

      Haha! Thanks, Carmen! 😉

Yep, I ordered from ColourPop, Bath & Body Works and Sephora (I coulnd’t help myself). I know some people have had issues with their orders from Sephora (mine hasn’t been declined yet), so I updated the blog post with an update at the end.

The more the merrier, there is no limit on the number of people who can use the code. :)

  3. Zurette 14 October 2015 / 22:14

Yesssss! I have also been lusting after the goodies at Sephora, Ulta and Colour Pop. Now they are within my reach! I am definitely going to sign up. I have a question, though. Can you place orders at several different companies (in the same country) to be combined by Aramex and then send off to you as one parcel? I would really appreciate your answer. Thanks for keeping us updates on beauty related ‘things’!

    • Luzanne 20 October 2015 / 11:56

Hi Zurette – I’ve added an update to the blog post at the very end regarding Sephora orders. As mentioned I also placed an order by mine hasn’t been declined as yet. I’m looking for more online stores that stock the brands I mentioned above, so far I’ve found Macy’s to be a great option but I’ll have to actually place an order with them to see if it will go through. My Bath & Body Works and ColourPop orders have gone through without any problems, so I guess it’s just trial & error. :)

Aramex doesn’t combine orders, they send the delivery out as soon as it arrives at the hub. So it’s best to find an online store that stocks a lot of different brands. Let me know if you find any interesting online shops. :)

  4. Sophia 15 October 2015 / 08:45

This is totally awesome :) i am going to sign up month end!. I think you should get a kit from Sephora and some Colour pop :) . I cannot wait to get my hands on some Colour pop :)

    • Luzanne 20 October 2015 / 11:57

Thank you for reading, Sophia. :)

  5. Lucinda Singh 15 October 2015 / 08:52

    • Luzanne 20 October 2015 / 11:58

My pleasure, Lucinda. 😀 I’ve placed my order with ColourPop and all went well, just waiting for my delivery now. 😉

  6. Ayesha Bhayat 15 October 2015 / 09:02

I have been listing after that Tarte Light of the Party set on sephora for a while now. Of yiu choose to get it I would love to know how it is. Hubby always asked me why is opens a sephora account cos is would never be able to buy from them and would just make my heart getting the emails all the time.
So Yippee for me. I can now order to my Hearst desire.

  8. Paula 15 October 2015 / 09:10

Wowzers! Great news! I also had my share of horrific experiences with international orders. Recently one lost with SAPO, and once another shipped with Fedex; they charged me an arm and leg for additional fees (excluding shipping & custom fees)

Do you know if Amarex calculate shipping costs on volumetric weight, or solely actual weight of the parcels?

O yes, I think you should wait for Black Friday, it’s huge in the US! If I’m not mistaken, it’s usually the last Friday of November / after Thanksgiving – but just double check to make sure :)

    • Luzanne 20 October 2015 / 12:01

      Sounds absolutely terrible!! :(

As far as I know only on actual weight of the parcel, but I’ll check for you.

You are right, I’ll wait until the Black Friday sales before I place any more order! Eeeep! So excited! 😀

  9. Leigh McFarlane 15 October 2015 / 09:23

    LOVE this :)

  10. Siobhan 15 October 2015 / 09:23

This sounds pretty awesome but I’m sadly one of those people that’s so lazy to put the effort in and do this. It just seems like so much effort plus I don’t have paypal or a credit card so I’m screwed thee.

Although I am just thinking… wouldn’t there be legal implications if someone went and bought products to resell or even bought the stuff for themselves and there is already a distributor here? Wouldn’t they get into boo boo about that then?
Seeing as everyone is already selling something, I know of two ladies on Instagram that resell products but the company doesn’t do actually reselling and they but it and resell it on instagram…
Am I being devil’s advocate here?

    • Luzanne 20 October 2015 / 12:08

Aaaaah noooooo, Siobhan! Don’t be lazy, think of all the special things you’d be able to get your hands on! Signing up for Paypal is free and super easy, but you need a credit card for it as far as I know…

I guess people could buy & resell anything they want really, I think they need to have an import licence though because customs will start to ask questions why someone is importing so much of the same thing. A normal person like you & I won’t get into trouble importing small quantities because it is our decision where we want to buy products from (even if there is a local distributor). I’ve bought a lot of Sigma brushes in the past & there was a local distributor in SA (before I knew about them).

Yes, I’ve seen the South African Instagram-based ‘online stores’ and I haven’t placed an order with any of them because I don’t feel comfortable doing it. I’m not sure how legal it is, or if they have some type of business licence. So can’t really comment on that, but I personally would rather purchase via an online store.

      • Siobhan 22 October 2015 / 11:51

I 100% agree with you. I’d also prefer to buy from an online store rather because from seeing these instagram sellers, some of them aren’t very professional or friendly for that matter.
I have been eyeing a few of the essence eyeshadow palettes that have the same feeling as the balm… mmmm
You make a good point regarding the buy and reselling. Didn’t think of that before.

  11. Candice 15 October 2015 / 09:31

I use Aramex Global Shopper and its awesome!! Makes buying this so much easier!

    • Luzanne 20 October 2015 / 12:08

Yay! So happy to hear that, Candice! :)

  12. Linds 15 October 2015 / 09:38

Oh wow – amazing news!! Thanks so much for sharing Luzanne!! Happiness is :)

    • Luzanne 20 October 2015 / 12:09

  14. Prettiful Blog 15 October 2015 / 10:28

Bath and Body Works is awesome, I always stock up when overseas. Agree about the limited kits, they sell out so quickly, and once I get overseas they are all gone! Becca also has some awesome kits this holiday season. Luckily I work for a US company, so quite a few people are expats, and so I mule, haha. I signed up for this a while ago, but I haven’t used it yet, will wait to hear your experience :)

    • Luzanne 20 October 2015 / 12:10

      • Camilla (Jane Wonder) 22 October 2015 / 13:55

Thanks Lu! Just read the update. I shall read the next update for if you find more 😉 xxx

  15. Sabrina 15 October 2015 / 10:54

It’s a pity perfumes are not allowed to be shipped overseas otherwise I would sign up for this in a heartbeat as I would love to buy the giftsets from Sephora. I would still consider signing up but I’m sure I’ll probably hardly use it except for once in a blue moon.

    • Luzanne 20 October 2015 / 12:11

Yes, I agree. Nail polish & aerosol cans (hairspray) is also an issue if sent from the UK. :)

  16. Cherise 15 October 2015 / 11:02

Thanks for the promo code… I wouldn’t know where to start but looking forward to your posts regarding these products! I will shop according to your advice… whooohoo.. lekker :)

    • Luzanne 20 October 2015 / 12:11

You’re welcome, Cherise! :) Just a note: I’ve added an update to the blog post at the very end regarding Sephora orders. This is awesome news! I have not done much online shopping and I don’t know where to start but at least I know that I now can!

I’ve watched so many YouTube videos of products tthat we will never get to see in SA and it has always gotten me down. Happy to know that this is now available to us too :)

Thanks for the great blog post as usual!
    Xx

  19. Tarryn B 15 October 2015 / 12:28

Do you have any idea if the customs duties for beauty products will always be 20%? I’m terrified that if I place an order and pay for shipping and all that, and then get hit with duties that are basically the same price or more than the product I’ve just bought :'(

    • Luzanne 20 October 2015 / 12:14

As far as I know it should always be 20% but one can never be sure. It is a gamble, but maybe wait until I’ve received my orders and I’ll let everyone know what the charges were like. I definitely wouldn’t buy something online for only $20 (R250) because then shipping, customs & duties will be about the same amount.

  20. Ntokozo Majola 15 October 2015 / 12:47

YOU ARE SO GREAT! I joined immediately! I emailed you a while back about my packages getting lost and this is the solution to all that:) Thanks a bunch!

    Thanks!
Did you uosd your ID as they request?

    • Luzanne 20 October 2015 / 12:16

Hi Hestelle, you’re very welcome. :)

You don’t have to post your ID to them, you just upload a scanned copy to your profile on their website. :)

  22. Hestelle Nel 15 October 2015 / 12:54

Oops, I mean did you post your ID?

  23. candice 15 October 2015 / 13:18

So excited about this. Forever watching youtube wishing we had certain products. Wondering if I should sign up now while the coupon code is still valid even though I’m not going to be placing an order soon

    • Luzanne 20 October 2015 / 12:18

I would personally sign up now to save the $35 (it’s a huge saving) and if you feel the Aramex service is not worth it for you, you can always cancel and they will refund the $10 to you. :)

  27. Nadia 15 October 2015 / 15:10

    Hi Luzanne,
I have been using parcel forwarding services for years and they have aleays worked like a dream, however i am still coming across sites that wont let you pay with a South African credit card and dont accept paypal as a form of payment. One of these in particular id ULTA. Please see if you have any success with this and let us know, I only use NYM shampoo and have to wait till clients from the US come down because i can only get it from them.

    • Luzanne 20 October 2015 / 12:20

Hi Nadia! :) I’ve added an update to the blog post at the very end with a solution to the problem you mentioned. :)

  30. Gillian 15 October 2015 / 21:46

    Hello,

I have never imported anything before but I want to sell clothing to make a part time income. Do you have any advice for me and which companies in China are the best to deal with? Any info would really be appreciated. Thank you

    • Luzanne 20 October 2015 / 12:23

Hi Gillian, unfortunately I can’t help you with that as I’ve never worked with any China-based fashion companies. :(

  31. Susan T 16 October 2015 / 01:53

I’m a native Southern Californian (who moved to CT several months ago) and am very familiar with most of the products you’re interested in. I’d recommend the Tartlette palette* & blush palette*. Pass on the Tarte holiday set eyeshadows because they’re inconsistent, some are patchy. The Two Face Melted are a bit drying – there are better formulas and new formulas are being released that are more moisturizing. The Two Face blushes are pigmented and have staying power. Definitely get the Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer* (w/your skin tone you probably want “medium” for concealing, “light” for highlighting, don’t recommend the brighter). The candles are really heavy but if you don’t mind the extra cost, you won’t be disappointed. They are very fragrant. I love the B&BW’s foaming hand soap and plan to bring a few back on my next trip home. I believe you’ll enjoy Color Pop eyeshadows*; the lipsticks are ok. Top recommendations are “*”. Hope this helps!

    • Melissa 17 October 2015 / 10:17

Thank you Susan. This is great advice!

    • Luzanne 20 October 2015 / 12:29

Thanks so much for your helpful advice, Susan. I am in love with the Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer (I own shades ‘Light’ and ‘Brightener’), I asked a friend to bring it back from the US for me end of last year. I actually really like the brightening shade, I have quite fair skin so perhaps that’s why it works well on my skin tone.

I’ve only ordered the mini Bath & Body Works candles, mainly because I wanted to see if the scents are not too synthetic (plus because of the weight issue). I also ordered some of their foaming hand soaps, they mainly have the fall & festive season scents in the online store now.

I’ve used ColourPop eyeshadows and Lippiestix in the past and I really like them, but I won’t get the ColourPop liquid lipsticks as I’ve hear they’re not that great.

  32. Kelebogile 16 October 2015 / 08:26

This is great news, Luzanne. Thank you for the code. 😀

I think you should get the Tartelette palette and the Too faced kit.

    Kelebogile

    • Luzanne 20 October 2015 / 12:29

      You’re welcome, Kelebogile. :)

  33. Tina 16 October 2015 / 12:34

Thank you for the post and promo code, I’ve already signed up with amarex and is planning on doing some shopping with Sephora 😀 !! I used to send all international online purchases to friends overseas and have them courier it to me, now I don’t have to bother them! I would definitely go with a tarte palette with Sephora and the mini candles and shower gel from bath and body works!

    • Luzanne 20 October 2015 / 12:32

Check out Macy’s online store, they have the same brands in stock. :) Hopefully they will ship to freight forwarders, but as mentioned to you in your other comment, I’ll have to place an order with them first. Most of these websites don’t mentioned any shipping restrictions on the actual site. It’s all trial & error, but at least when we’ve found the online stores that have no restrictions, we can continue to support them. :)

  34. Carmen 16 October 2015 / 15:22

    I. Can’t. Even. Sooooooooo excited!!!! #thepossibilities Thank you Luzanne, what a star you are!!

      You’re welcome, Kayleigh! :)

  36. Tina 19 October 2015 / 18:27

    Hi There

Just an update, I tried ordering goods from Sephora and the order was declined. I called customer services and the order was declined because Sephora only ships to residential addresses. :( anyone encounter the same problem?

    • Luzanne 19 October 2015 / 18:55

Hi Tina, I placed an Sephora order last week Thursday and my order hasn’t been declined (I just checked again). When did you order yours? Here are 2 questions I sent to Aramex last week Thursday after someone else queried whether Sephora will fulfil orders to Aramex:

My question: If a website says they do not ship to freight forwarders does that mean we can’t use your service?
Aramex answer: This can happen if a website is sophisticated enough to identify a Freight Forwarders address. This can happen with Global Brand websites that have Agency agreements in place in different Countries around the World. I had this exact experience with Oakley.com in USA. Who would not fulfil my order, so I went to Oakley.co.uk and they processed and shipped my order.

My question: Sephora & ULTA do not ship to mail forwarding companies, plus you are not able to use a South African credit card or Paypal when you place an order with them – is this true?
Aramex answer: Again, this could be true and for the same reasons above. Many payment gateways identify credit card Origin, mostly from a credit card fraud perspective and can then stop a sale happening. There are ways around it. Register on http://www.usunlocked.com for a US-based credit card number, in this way their payment gateway does not identify a foreign credit card number.

If, for some reason, we can’t place orders on Sephora, I’m sure there are many other online stores that stock the same brands who will send to Aramex. I placed an order with ColouPop and Bath & Body Works last week and so far so good.

      • Luzanne 19 October 2015 / 19:24

P.S. I have updated the blog post to highlight that it might be a potential problem with some international online stores. Thanks for letting me know, Tina.

    • Marianne 20 October 2015 / 15:05

      Hi Tina,

I had exactly the same problem, however my credit card was already been charged with the full amount and then only declined thereafter. Am now worried about having the transaction reversed as it was over $100.

      • Luzanne 20 October 2015 / 16:53

Did you place and order with Sephora, Marianne? As far as I know (from what my other readers have told me) is Sephora will let the order go through, but they won’t charge the amount to your bank account & won’t authorize the payment or order delivery.

Tina, what was your experience? Was the full amount charged to your account?

        • Marianne 22 October 2015 / 09:21

Yes I did. They have let me know that it will be reversed in the next billing cycle. Has your Sephora order been authorised successfully Luzanne?

          • Luzanne 22 October 2015 / 11:05

I just checked my order status, and it also says ‘unsuccessful authorisation’ BUT Sephora didn’t deduct the money from my credit card at all. I just checked my bank account, and there is no payment to Sephora. It’s strange that they deducted the money from you, but not from me. I hope the next billing cycle is soon? Do you know how long it will take? Before you place an order with a shop like Macy’s, let me place an order first to see how it turns out. My order from ColourPop has been shipped, so all is fine with that.

  37. Roslyn 22 October 2015 / 10:46

Hi, I have the same problem. My order status is “unsuccessful authorisation” but the funds are being held on my credit card as an outstanding authorisation which apparently only Sephora can release. I have emailed them and am awaiting a reply. So far they have not corresponded with me at all, I was under the impression that everything was fine until I saw the order status.

    • Luzanne 22 October 2015 / 11:12

Sephora didn’t deduct any money off my bank account, I just checked. My order status also says ‘unsuccessful authorisation’ and they didn’t charge my account at all. See Marianne’s comment above, they will reverse it in the next billing cycle. I also thought my order was going to go through, because I never received an email or notification from them saying it wasn’t authorised. :( I have updated the blog post to let people know Sephora doesn’t ship to mail forwarding companies.

I feel bad for making a big hooh-hah about ordering on Sephora and it turned out they don’t ship to companies like Aramex, but unfortunately I had no way of knowing. I tried to do my research before I wrote the blog post and nowhere do they mention anything about shipping restrictions when it comes to services like Aramex. It’s trial and error, we just have to find the shops that will send to the hubs and keep ordering from them. I’m going to order from Macy’s and see how that works out (they also sell Tarte and Too Faced). I wish I could place like 10 orders on various websites but the delivery & shipping costs will end up costing me a fortune because Aramex doesn’t combine orders.

      • Roslyn 6 November 2015 / 10:38

        Hi Luzanne,

Have you had any luck with your Macy’s order?

  38. Jackie Heijmans 22 October 2015 / 21:42

Hi there Luzanne, I came across this update from you just before I tried to order online and am so glad I did! :)) thanks for making it easier, I will definitely try. Just would like to enquire as to whether Macy’s would have Makeup Geek products? thank you ever so kindly for all the input and info and all the research. So sad that us girls in South Africa don’t have the luxury just to go into a store and get all these products hey? Anyway, thank you for the promo code. If I get stuck, I will have to contact you for help and direction haha…. kind regards…. Jackie. :))

  39. Milli 23 October 2015 / 14:50

Oh My Word Luzanne you just made my day! I have just registered and used your promo code!! Whoop Whoop .
I’m fortunate that my sister is an air hostess (won’t be forever though) and can get goodies for me from Sephora. There’s other items which one cannot walk into a particular store to buy but can only get them online. This will surely help with that! Cant wait for some peace and quiet to get my online shopping done….it’s going to be a good weekend!

    Thank you so much xoxo

P.S. Cant wait to get my Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshaow Palette from my sis’s Sephora adventure hahahaha

  40. Zeenat 29 October 2015 / 21:23

I’ve shopped overseas online shops quite a bit.i normally buy from stores that offer free shipping cause I hate paying ! My aramex experience was excellent although I did pay customs duties on my item.one thing I hate is the hit or miss with customs duties.i try and keep the parcel costs below R1000 to avoid duties but it doesn’t always work.so my formula is to budget 50 % of the item and then add it to the cost and then weigh up if it’s worth the buy.that way if I’m charged I’m not disappointed about the hidden costs

  41. Afroze Bholat 31 October 2015 / 01:25

Hello luzanne! I used the coupon code you provided and signed up as soon as I saw this post! Due to exams I waited until today to order and I’m so happy that I can finally get colourpop! can’t wait to start receiving my packages. Please let me know if for under a R500 parcel if customs or vat is applied. I got in touch with a member of aramex who assured me no custom fees will be charged and only 175 for shipping if package is 0,5 kg will be charged. What do you think? Anyone else ordered for under R500? And received it?

  42. michelle walker 1 November 2015 / 13:16

I just signed up with Aramex with your discount code, thank you so much! Now I can shop shop shop…..first stop Morphe Brushes, YAY!!

  43. Melissa 7 November 2015 / 10:53

    Hi Luzanne

Have you got any updates on Macy’s? I checked and was not able to see any other make-up except Dolce and Gabbana.

  44. Melissa de la Croix 11 November 2015 / 11:00

Just checking in if you have tried the tarte site yet? im thinking of trying to place a nice Christmas order. :)

  45. Nausheen 13 November 2015 / 22:35

    Hi
Did you guys upload a copy of ID when registering?
Also it would be great if a list of online shops were made to help us along!
We could all add more in the comments section

    Thanks so much

  46. Carmen 22 November 2015 / 03:13

    Hi Luzanne,

Please could you give me some advice since this is the first time I’ve tried international online shopping.
I placed an order with Morphe Brushes at the end of September and they shipped using USPS. The only problem with that is that you can only trace the parcel until it leaves the US. I’m still waiting for my parcel to arrive but I’m not sure how to trace it in South Africa. How do I know if I need to pay customs/duties? I’m so stuck I don’t know what to do next! The value of my order was about R1200 but that’s with over R300 of shipping costs!
    Please help!

  47. Lori 15 February 2016 / 21:23

This is almost to good to be true!

Looking forward to seeing your reviews on the products you have ordered and the service you have gotten. From Aramax!

  48. Adele Elzinga 16 March 2016 / 11:20

Hi Luzanne, any updates for us regarding purchasing from overseas suppliers ? New ones you’ve discovered and whether you were happy with your purchases etc.

  49. Megan 22 April 2016 / 12:21

Fantastic news (yes I know I am a bit behind). Random question – if you send a parcel from a non-shopping site, will they deliver to SA? I often have stuff (documents and small packages) that I need to get to/from family in Canada and this pricing looks a lot more reasonable.
    So excited about this!

  50. Kelsey Jayes 22 April 2016 / 21:21

I have been DYING to get my hands on Colourpop products and now I finally can (after pay day lol). I know this blog is quite old but I got referred to it recently from AllDolledUp’s new Youtube video (because, sadly, I only became aware of your AMAZING blog a few months ago and didn’t catch this blog when you wrote it). Thank you SO much for the discount code it has really saved me! Probably wouldn’t have signed up with Aramex without it because being broke is a thing I can’t wait to start shopting online stress-free!!

  51. GeeBee 12 May 2016 / 15:17

    Hi Luzanne,

Do you happen to know if Ulta will ship to SA if one is using an AGS address? Sorry if this has already been covered but there are so many comments and for some reason, I cannot do a keyword search to quickly get to the part of the page I need.

Many thanks otherwise for a beautiful blog!

    G.

    • Luzanne 12 May 2016 / 17:53

Hi there – Ulta unfortunately doesn’t ship to freight forwarders like Aramex. :( Some of my readers have tried, and in the end Ulta just cancels the order and gives a refund.

  52. Jess 8 June 2016 / 14:04

When you read this in June to see that the Aramax coupon code expired in April :'(

      • Loxi 14 October 2016 / 23:54

I just used your code this second and it still works!!!!

  53. Shirley 16 July 2016 / 14:15
