Quick & Easy Drugstore Makeup Tutorial

A while ago I received an email from one of my blog readers, Rachael asked me to do a makeup look that features only affordable makeup products, plus something that is not too difficult to recreate.  She’s a mom, so doesn’t have a lot of time to spend on doing her makeup.  So that’s what I did – I filmed a quick & easy makeup look, and used only drugstore makeup and brushes.

This is my ‘Girl-On-The-Go’ makeup look for when I’m in a rush & need dash out the door.  In the video I also give you a few tips & tricks – things to do to shorten the amount time you spend doing your makeup and recommendations for products that have multiple uses.  As mentioned ALL the products and makeup brushes are from the drugstore, plus I give you the name of each product & brush on the screen while I’m using them.  I’m not going to make this a very long blog post, I will let the photos do the talking.  Basically this is a fresh-faced makeup look, with a bit of glow factor going on.  Perfect for Spring!

The stars of the show are definitely the 2 Wet n Wild eyeshadow palettes, Walking On Eggshells is such a gorgeous trio and will suit most skin tones (I think it will look stunning on medium and darker skin tones).  While we’re on the subject of Wet n Wild – have you entered my HUGE Wet n Wild hamper giveaway?  If not, you can enter here (the giveaway ends on Sunday night, so make sure to get those entries in ASAP).

You can watch my video by clicking on the image below, it will take you through to my video on YouTube.  Please give the video a ‘thumbs up’ if you enjoyed it, and share on your social media platforms if you think it’s something that might interest your friends or family.  Also, like I said in the video – if you have any video suggestions or specific makeup looks you would like me to do for you, let me know in the comments section below.

    Hi Luzanne,

I just LOVE your blog! Thanks for the great post – already watched the video :). Just a couple of things:
    1. I was rewatching your videos yesterday (the hair tutorials), and I just wanted to ask if you’d had any experience with NuMe wands? I know you were using your GlamPalm in the one tutorial and you said you loved it, but since your last blog post on Aramex Global Shopper I thought I’d rather get a Titan 3 set from NuMe as it’s only a little more expensive than the GlamPalm. Btw… in your video about curling with the GHD, everytime you curled a section, you lifted the piece up for the camera (obviously for us to see) but your face was like: ‘I made dis’. Was just too cute and it made me smile – just thought I’d mention that! 😛
    2. Have you seen Wayne Goss’s video about the halo technique for highlighting? Since seeing that video, that’s all I do for highlighting – I think it looks so natural and beautiful; perfect for an every day look! If you give it a try (or have tried it already) I’d love to hear your thoughts on it.
    3. I just wanted to say that I’m so glad you’re posting videos on YouTube again… I know you were off them for a bit but I just wanted to say that your videos are always so entertaining and informative to watch (and professional too!) so, while I know hearing it from another person is not the same as believing it for yourself, you should really be proud of the work you do and the content you put out in the world (YouTube and your blog) because you are amazing! I wish I could do what you do and it really makes me proud to see a South African girl out there in the sea of American and UK girls!

Ok, I’m sure that’s more than enough for one comment haha… Thanks for all the effort you put in to your posts & vids… it really does show, Luzanne. Keep up the excellent work! Take care xxx

This is definitely one of the most kind and thoughtful comments I have ever received – thank you so much, Inge. 🙂

      1. I haven’t had the pleasure of using a NuMe wand as yet, but I’ve often thought of getting one of those huge sets (containing 5 or 6 attachments). Remember – you’ll have to get a voltage converter for the NuMe hair tool because it will have a US-plug attached. You can’t just change the plug either because you need to convert the electrical charge as well. I bought a Hot Tools curling iron a few years ago and had to buy a small converter for it (I bought it at Communica in Midrand), if you don’t use a converter, your hair tool will literally blow a fuse. 😉 I like my Glampalm, it heats up super fast and my curls last really well. But it will be nice to have 3 attachments to choose from, so if you’re willing to spend the extra money on buying a small converter, then I say go for it!

Haha!! I used to suck at curling my hair with a straightener, so eventually getting the hang of it felt like a huge accomplishment! 😉

      2. I watched the Halo technique video, thanks to you. 🙂 I think it’s a beautiful way to highlight the face, and looks very natural too. I definitely prefer the Halo technique, to the Strobing technique. Thanks for introducing me to it, I’ll definitely feature it in one of my videos.

      3. Again, thank you for being so sweet and kind. It really makes my heart so happy knowing you really enjoy my videos and look forward to watching them. I still don’t quite understand why people like to watch me, because I’m such a derp! I need to get my butt into gear and film another video today or tomorrow – I have so many ideas for videos but it feels like something always gets in the way of my filming days.

I hope you have a wonderful week ahead, Inge. Thank you for making my day & week extra special. xo

Thanks for the reply Luzanne. 🙂 I didn’t even think of the converter needed for the NuMe wand – thanks for the info!
I’m glad you liked the Halo technique. It’s nice to find a look/technique that isn’t so over the top and dramatic. I find looks like strobing, heavy contouring and baking just too extreme (but it’s still fun to watch the videos) 😛
Haha I know that feeling of things just getting in the way of certain plans; it happens to me all the time!
I’m really looking forward to your next video. Have a wonderful week too xxx

This is exactly what I needed to see, I have 2 left hands when it comes to doing my makeup but I am positive I will be able to copy this look. Thank you for breaking it down for those of us who are not the best at applying makeup. Next I would like to see a makeup look using only high-end makeup, to change it up. 😀

Yay! So happy to hear that, Porchia – that’s exactly why I filmed this look! 🙂 Great idea, I’d love to film a look using only luxe brands.

Dis verbloem my donker sirkels onder my oë verskriklik goed.
