Products Popping Up – March 2016

New Products Launching - March

Hello, everyone!  It’s the BEST time of the month – iiiiiit’s Products Popping Up time!  Wow, I sounded a bit like a Checkers ‘Hey Days’ ad there.  Anyway, so I’ve rounded up all the new product launches for the month of March and I must say…I’m quite excited!  There are so many new and exciting products that will be popping up on store shelves during the next few weeks, plus we can never forget Easter weekend starting the 24th of March.  Eeeep!  Do you have anything special planned for Easter weekend?  Neal and I don’t have anything planned yet, but I’ll definitely hide a couple of Easter eggs around the house or in the garden for Neal to find.  Maybe a couple of the Lindt bunnies I mention at the end of this blog post…?  And I’m hoping I’ll find a few Easter eggs of my own too.  Not the chocolate kind, though, something more along the lines of a LUSH Fluffy Egg Bath Bomb or a LUSH Golden Egg Bath Bomb Melt.

I’ve decided from now on I’ll give you a short review on any of the products I have received and tested.  I’m very fortunate to sometimes receive certain products (definitely not all) before they launch, so sometimes I already know whether I would recommend a product even before it launches.  I think it will be helpful to you if I give a type of first impression review of the product(s), just to give you an idea of whether I think they’re worth checking out or not.  What do you think?

Anyway, let’s take a look at all the beautiful products that are launching in March 2016:

Smashbox Insta-Matte

Smashbox Insta-Matte Lipstick Transformer (R290,00) – The ultimate beauty hack,  take-anywhere tube that doubles your lip colour collection.  Insta-Matte Lipstick Transformer doubles your lipstick arsenal instantly by mattifying your favourite shades.  Not only does the wonder gel blend into any cream lip colour for a dramatic matte look, it also keeps colours true – letting you wear your favourite shades two ways. Comfortable enough to wear all day, the lightweight formula never flakes or feathers.  Available at selected Woolworths, Edgars, Red Square and Foschini stores nationwide.

LOVE this!  It’s such an interesting concept!  I received the Insta-Matte when attended a Smashbox event in Cape Town towards the end of last year, and I’ve been using it ever since.  I really like the idea of being able to transform your favourite creme / glossy finish lipstick shade into a matte lipstick.  In fact, I love it so much that I’m featuring it in my ‘February 2016 Favourites’ blog post tomorrow.

Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick

Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick (R260,00 each) – The newest shades of the Be Legendary Lipstick range has the stuff beauty dreams are made of.  From moisturising creams packed with shea butter to ultra-smooth mattes with studio-quality staying power – each lipstick glides on smooth, delivering rich, vibrant colour in just one stroke.  Cream formula: Get show-stopping colour with a lustrous finish from the rich cream formula. Enriched with shea butter, the vibrant lipstick hydrates deep into lips for lasting moisture throughout the day, while added Vitamins C and E add a boost of antioxidants to protect and perfect.  Matte formula: Master the matte lip trend with this silky hybrid formula.  The vivid colour glides on smooth, with added adherence power to help the lipstick stay in place all day.  Plus, each sultry shade has added Vitamins C and E for saturated colour that never dries out your lips. Available at selected Woolworths, Edgars, Red Square and Foschini stores nationwide.

Smashbox Always Sharp Clear Lip Liner

Smashbox Always Sharp Clear Lip Liner (R255,00) – Inspired and engineered to work with the new shades of Be Legendary Lipstick, the new Always Sharp Clear Lip Liner is the ultimate secret weapon for a foolproof statement lip.  The transparent liner keeps colour right where you want it.  Its see-through finish means reds retain their vibrancy and pinks don’t lose their pop, plus you can even apply it without a mirror.  This liner glides on easily to define lips, creating a transparent barrier that prevents lip colour from feathering or bleeding. Think of it as a foolproof pout primer for any lipstick in your bag!  Just like the award-winning Always Sharp Lip Liners, this liner features a tiny sharpener built into the cap, so it self-sharpens every time you twist off the cap. With its genius clear shade that works on all skin tones, you never have to worry about shade matching or a blunt tip again.  Available at selected Woolworths, Edgars, Red Square and Foschini stores nationwide.

Scholl Velvet Smooth Electronic Nail Care System

Scholl Velvet Smooth Electronic Nail Care System (R489,99) – This is an exciting extension of the Scholl Velvet Smooth range, designed to create that naturally shiny and smooth toe- and fingernails in just 3 easy steps.  The nifty gadget comes with 3 different nail care heads for filing, buffing and polishing that can be popped onto the oscillating head.  The electronic pen-style gadget can be used at 2 different speed levels for full control and switching between heads is quick and seamless as well.  The Velvet Smooth Electronic Nail Care System is available from at Clicks, Dis-Chem, PnP and  Also available are the new Velvet Smooth Nail Care Oil (R139,99) and the 3-Pack Refill Heads (R114,99).

LOVE this clever little invention so much, I’ve been using it for just over a week now and I can’t imagine going back to using a normal nail file and nail buffer ever again.  It cuts down the time I spend on some of the tedious tasks of my manicure (filing, buffing and polishing) because it does all the work for me, and trust me, it does a really good job!  I think I’ll do a review on the blog soon, and I can definitely see myself loving it as much as I adore my Scholl Velvet Smooth Electronic Foot File.

L'Oreal Infallible Matte Max

L’Oréal Infallible Matte Max Lip (R169,95) – L’Oréal’s first designer applicator lip pen that creates infinite looks, from gradients and ombre to full bold matte colour.  Exclusive micro-oils ensure a velvet feel for up to 8 hours.  Available at Clicks, Dis-Chem and selected department stores nationwide.

I received a L’Oréal parcel last week that contained a couple of the new product launches (take a look at my Instagram photo here) and I immediately started testing these very unique powder formula lip products.  I must be honest, though, so far I’m not a fan because it feels a bit uncomfortable on the lips, it doesn’t last that long at all and it starts to flake off after about half an hour.  I’ll keep testing the shades I received, maybe I’ll start liking them more when I get used to the velvety formula.

LOreal Infallible Blush Sculpt

L’Oréal Infallible Blush Sculpt Trio (R169,95) – L’Oréal’s first 3-in-1 blusher, Infallible Sculpt Blush Trio is the ultimate designer tool to create a flawlessly flushed base.  Use alone for a simple statement pop of colour on the cheeks, or use all 3 shades to create an ombre-effect blushed base.  Available at Clicks, Dis-Chem and selected department stores nationwide.

I received the shade ‘Nude Beige’ in my L’Oréal parcel last week and although I haven’t opened the blush as yet, I really like the idea of it.  All the shades are quite shimmery, though, so if you’re more of a matte gal then you probably won’t like these new blushes.  I really, REALLY want to buy the baby pink shade called ‘Soft Rosy’ (it looks like such a gorgeous pink).

LOreal Paris Fixing Mist False Lash Superstar Red Carpet Black

L’Oréal Infallible Fixing Mist (R199,95) – L’Oréal’s first ever makeup finishing spray sets and extends your makeup for that ‘just applied’ look.  The formula contains anti-melt, anti-fade, anti-crack ingredients to extend the wear of your makeup.  Once you’ve applied your make-up, shake the mist well, hold 15cm away and spray 2 to 4 times in an X & T motion on the face (remember to close your eyes and mouth).

So far I’ve only used the Fixing Mist once, and it definitely does prolong the wear of your makeup BUT alcohol is quite high up on the list of ingredients and so it does leave your brows feeling a little bit crunchy.  Let me know if you want me to do a review on this makeup setting spray, I’ll be more than happy to do one for you.

L’Oréal Infallible Stylo Eyeliner (R149,95 each) – Enjoy beautifully defined eyes for up to 16 hours, this is L’Oréal’s most advanced mechanical liner with superior long-wearing technology.  The rich and creamy formula glides on easily and evenly and sets quickly for fade-proof colour.  Use the built-in smudger and sharpener to create versatile eyeliner looks for any occasion.

L’Oréal False Lash Superstar Red Carpet Black Mascara (R189,95) – This new mascara contains black-light-infused pigments with blue undertones for intensified flash-light ready lashes.  Get your lashes ready for the red carpet in 2 innovative steps.  The super-sizing primer thickens each lash to build intense volume.  And the lifting brush applies a jet-black fibre-rich formula and lengthens the look of lashes for a flash-light ready finish.

L’Oreal Paris products are available at Clicks, Dis-Chem and selected pharmacies & department stores nationwide.

Garnier Ultimate Blends South Africa

Garnier Ultimate Blends (R39,95 – R149,95) – Hair care products crafted with indulgent textures and divine fragrances, each of the 5 signature blends is a powerful fusion with 2 complementary ingredients, carefully hand-picked for their restorative virtues.  The shampoo and conditioners will be available in 250ml (R39,95) and 400ml (R49,95) sized bottles, and will be sold at Clicks, Dis-Chem, and other supermarkets nationwide.

♥  The Strength Restorer – A signature blend of honey (known for its nourishing properties), propolis extract (to act as a protective barrier on the hair) and royal jelly (revitalises hair) restores strength to damaged hair that is prone to breakage.  The Honey Treasures product range consists of a shampoo, conditioner, intensive hair mask (R69,95) and hair serum (R69,95).

♥  The Colour Illuminator – A signature blend of argan oil and cranberry will preserve the radiance of colour treated or highlighted hair.  It nourishes, protects and illuminates colour thanks to argan oil (the liquid gold native to Morocco) and cranberry extracts (bursting with antioxidants known for their protective properties).  Hair looks radiant, glossy as if transformed.  The Colour Illuminator product range consists of a shampoo, conditioner and intensive hair mask (R69,95).

♥  The Nourishing Repairer – A signature blend of avocado oil and shea butter will nourish very dry and damaged hair from root to tip.  This potent blend of ultra-nourishing avocado oil and soothing shea butter will  reinforce the hairs natural barrier and moisturise hair intensely.  The Nourishing Repairer product range consists of a shampoo, conditioner and intensive hair mask (R69,95).

♥  The Sleek Restorer – A signature blend of coconut oil and cocoa butter will weightlessly nourish and tame dry frizzy hair.  This powerful blend of pure coconut oil (to smoothen & add shine) and cocoa butter (renowned for its nourishing virtues) will leave hair sensually smooth and shiny.  The Sleek Restorer product range consists of a shampoo, conditioner, intensive hair mask (R69,95) and oil spray (R149,95).

♥  The Fresh Revitaliser – A signature blend with a light texture & invigorating fragrance.  The formula combines 5 essential ingredients (eucalyptus, nettle, green tea, lemon, verbena) to intensely cleanse and revitalise hair.  This zesty blend of 5 will leave hair looking bouncy with incredible shine.

I attended the Garnier Ultimate Blends launch earlier this year and received 3 of the ranges in my press pack: The Colour Illuminator (argan oil & cranberry), The Nourishing Repairer (avocado oil & shea butter) and The Sleek Restorer (coconut oil & cocoa butter).  I’ve used all 3 on-and-off so far, and I’ve decided the Colour Illuminator (red range) is my favourite.  The Nourishing Repairer is a bit too nourishing for my fine hair (it weighs my hair down a bit) and I have the same problem with the Sleek Restorer too.  I’m very keen to go and buy the Fresh Revitaliser, I sniffed it at the launch and it smells amazing – zesty and refreshing!  The green Fresh Revitaliser range is definitely more suitable for fine and limp hair, as it will add volume and bounce.

Filorga Skin-Absolute Day Cream

Filorga Skin-Absolute Day (R1790,00) – Inspired from anti-ageing light technologies, the new formula has 4 main actions which will visibly target wrinkles, firmness, skin tone, radiance and skin texture in just 30 days.  Extracted Extremozymes are used to transform light rays into energy to accelerate cellular functioning and correct the ageing process.  It reinforces the elastic mesh of the skin and the epidermis, providing firmer, smoother skin.  Detoxifying vegetal fructan extracts calm the complexion and regulate skin tone.  An ultra-pure form of white sapphire extract attracts light and maximises the skin’s natural radiance.  A blue algae which is found on the ocean surface contains Photolyase (an enzyme that is able to renew itself). These same enzymes, contained within Skin-Absolute Day are able to catalyse daylight to activate the DNA mechanisms in the skin.  In so doing it boosts the repair mechanisms of the DNA, thereby helping to block ageing at the source.  The unique jelly emulsion with a mousse-like texture provides high hydration and instant penetration for a refined texture and no remaining sticky feeling.  Hyaluronic acid provides a plumping effect and Filorga’s patented NCTF formula is a multi-revitalising solution of more than 50 ingredients that redensifies the dermis and reinforces skin tone.  Skin-Absolute Day is available in selected Edgars and Red Square stores nationwide.

Max Factor Lipfinity Long Lasting Lipstick

Max Factor Lipfinity Long Lasting Lipstick (R169,95 each) – A no-compromise long wear lipstick that delivers moisture and bold colour that stays looking luscious all day long.  The advanced, high-pigment formula contains over 60% skin conditioners and emollients fused together with 2 new film formers which form a network to improve strength and long wear.  There are 6 shades available at selected Clicks stores.

I received 2 of the shades a few weeks ago, and so far I’ve only used the 1 shade called ‘Evermore Sublime’.  It’s a beautiful natural pink shade that looks quite glossy on the lips, but best of all, it feels really comfortable too.

Hugo Boss HUGO Man Extreme & Woman Extreme (R740,00 – R1370,00) – Taking freshness to the next level, this March HUGO will unleash HUGO Extreme.  Two new intensely uplifting and invigorating counterparts to its iconic and original HUGO MAN and HUGO WOMAN fragrances.  These 2 new eau de parfum fragrances will go on sale mid-March 2016 at leading pharmacies and department stores nationwide.

♥  HUGO Woman Extreme – Its concentrated eau de parfum has an intense revitalising freshness lying at its heart.  Irresistibly fruity and adventurously fresh top notes of flamboyant boysenberry juxtaposed with a daring dash of himalayan red grass compose the sparkling head accord.  As the scent unfolds, the power of the increased jasmine sambac liberates a white flower storm at the heart of the scent, delivering a refreshing boost when combined with revitalising black tea.  HUGO Woman Extreme will be available in 30ml (R740,00), 50ml (R1070,00) and 75ml (R1370,00).

There is a milky and delicate heart of lilac, the floral signature of the original, now tinged with wild strawberry, while the musk base emulates the sultriness of bare skin.  Guilty Eau for him creates a heady contrasting aromatic blend of lemon and bergamot top notes with noble woody orris, bringing an intriguing infusion to the orange blossom signature of the original scent.  At the base, a suave patchouli and musk blend creates the scent’s timbre.  These 2 new fragrances will be available at selected department stores nationwide.

LUSH Easter 2016

LUSH Easter Collection – Don’t get too excited yet, I have no idea if the LUSH Easter 2016 collection will be coming to South Africa.  I’ve asked LUSH to confirm this for me, but I’m still waiting for feedback.  I’m holding thumbs this cute collection does reach our shores, because I definitely want to buy the Fluffy Egg Bath Both (smells like LUSH Snow Fairy Shower Gel, my favourite!), Humpty Dumpty Bath Bomb (it sounds like he smells quite zesty as he contains Bergamot- and Brazilian Orange oil), and Bouncy Bunny Shower Jelly.  I’m so happy to see their Bunch Of Carrots has different coloured carrots now, last year’s bunch were all orange and so they turned the bath water into a rather boring light yellow shade.

Please let me know if / when you see the LUSH Easter 2016 collection in-store or online.  Send me a tweet, post on my Facebook page, or send smoke signals!

{UPDATE}  The LUSH Easter collection is now online here.

What’s on your ‘To Buy’ list?

Love your humour 😀 Lol, it did sound a lil like the Hey Days ad! Anyway, wow! so many awesome products to look forward too for this month! I’m also looking to get the Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation, though I just wanted to know if it contained an SPF? Also, between the Elizabeth Arden Primer and the Smashbox Photofinish primer, which would you say works best? Especially for someone who has really oily skin.

Thanks for the wonderful post Luzanne! Can’t wait to read your Feb Favs 😀

      10 March 2016 / 10:02

Haha! Thank you, Kelly! 🙂 No, the Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation doesn’t contain any SPF – so you’ll have to apply an SPF as part of your skincare routine. The Elizabeth Arden Primer is very similar to the Smashbox Photo Finish Pore Minimizing Primer (the one in the cute purple tube), it has that same almost ‘whipped’ texture and also has a slight tint to it (similar to a light skin tone). The Elizabeth Arden one contains Hyaluronic Acid (to add moisture), which the Smashbox one doesn’t. If I compare the Elizabeth Arden primer to the original Smashbox Photo Finish Primer, then I’d say the Smashbox one feels a bit more silicone-y and slippery on the skin. All of them create a smooth canvas for your foundation, but the Elizabeth Arden and Smashbox Pore Minimizing one blur pores just a little bit better. I have to add, though, the Smashbox Pore Minimizing Primer fills & blurs pores just a teeny tiny bit better. Both make my makeup last very well throughout the day. The Elizabeth Arden one is a bit more affordable, and has the added benefit of the HA skincare ingredient. If you’re in the market for a new primer and you have dry to normal skin, then I’d say go with the Elizabeth Arden one. 🙂

Oh my hat! So baie nuwe launches!!! Jou products popping up posts is baie sleg vir my beursie Luzanne!

Sjoe, die British Rose reeks ruik SO lekker, dis nie ‘n outydse roos reuk nie, so baie modern en jonk.

  11. 8 March 2016 / 17:27

These posts of yours are always so nice, and they look like so much fun to compile 🙂
I’ll be sooooo disappointed if the Lush easter collection doesn’t make it to our shores. I’ve been seeing it for a while now on Instagram, they better hurry up or else it would be almost time for the next holiday collection.
I’m usually not a fan of super matte foundations but this new one from Maybelline sounds like it would be worth trying, thanks for the heads up!! xx

    • Luzanne
      10 March 2016 / 10:21

They are so much fun to compile, but I was telling my friend just the other day – they take aaaaages to compile too. But it’s definitely worth it, because I know how much my readers love this series on my blog. 😉

I heard back from LUSH, and the Easter collection WILL be coming to South Africa! They’ll let me know exactly which products will be here – should be in-store and online by next week. Yay!

    8 March 2016 / 18:39

That Loreal makeup fixing spray looks very interesting. Is it as good as the MAC Fix+, Luzanne?

    • Luzanne
      10 March 2016 / 10:26

In my opinion they’re 2 different products – the L’Oreal one contains alcohol and REALLY soaks up excess oils and makes your makeup last longer since it creates like a type of barrier. The MAC Fix+ settles your powder, and makes your makeup look fresh (and dare I say a bit dewy). The MAC Fix+ also helps my makeup to last longer, but I think alcohol as an ingredient REALLY helps to extend the wear of your makeup. Fix+ doesn’t contain alcohol. 🙂 But it also doesn’t give me crunchy brows, which the L’Oreal one does. 😉

THIS is why you are the best blogger in South Africa! You always make such an effort with your blog postings, your humour is always so refreshing, and you always stay humble. I really wish you all the success in the world, Luzanne, and I can already see that is happening for you. I think I speak for many of your readers when I say thank you for staying true to yourself and taking pride in your blog. You are the only blogger I turn to when I need advice on a product, because I know your honesty and integrity will never falter.

Haha! Gosh, I wish we had a LUSH Oxford Street here in SA! …hhhhmmmm on second thought, maybe I don’t. My bank account won’t like it very much! 😉

After having my baby in hospital for 4 days….I was actually looking forward to being back at work and catching up on your blog posts:) This one didn’t disappoint!

I’d love to try the smashbox lip liner. I can’t ever seem to match the liner to my lipstick and also I find I choose a liner that really doesn’t go on nicely, so I’d love to try this.

I’m using a L’oreal matt sort of lip thing. It has the colour on one end that’s matt and then a clear balm on the other end that shines the matt colour. I found I was having this problem where my lips looked so flaky and I have to keep reapplying, hourly. By the 5th re-application my lips looked awful! I’d be scrubbing the stuff off. Must be a similar formula to the one you tried above and not much has changed, so I’ll give it a skip.

I’m rather not going to go into detail about what I want on this post as I’ll be writing all day….lol. Lindt….Lush…GHD….MOrgan Taylor…. Too many things, not a lot of money…lol.

    Hope you’re well:)

    • Luzanne
      12 March 2016 / 17:35

I’m so sorry to hear about Adam, Simone – I’ll keep you and your family in my thoughts. Hopefully he’ll be ‘spring lewendig en gesond’ soon! 😉

I’m a huge fan of MAC lip liners, they’re very creamy and last quite well on the lips too. If you’re looking for a good neutral pink, then go for ‘Soar’ – it’s beautiful! Otherwise the Smashbox liner will also be nice, but it’ll mainly keep your lipstick from bleeding. Eeeek, I’ve used that L’Oreal product in the past and I didn’t like it at all – waaaaay too drying in my opinion. You’ll end up finishing that clear balm before you’ve even made a dent in the liquid lipstick itself.

LUSH confirmed the Easter collection will be in-store and online – eeeep! But…I already have a shelf full of LUSH products – do I really need more? …I think I do! 😉

  25. 10 March 2016 / 17:28

So many cool new products to try out. I so badly want to try the Divine Cream, have you used it?

Also, have you done the gel nails at home? What’s your opinion? Do they dry immediately, like in the salon? Thanks

    • Luzanne
      12 March 2016 / 17:43

I haven’t used the Divine Cream unfortunately, but here’s a good review for you:

The Revlon gel polishes are like regular nail polishes in that they don’t need a UV light to dry / set. Their drying time is the same as a regular nail polish as well, not immediately like when you set it with a UV light.

I’ve used 2 shades with the Gel Envy top coat in the past, and they definitely last longer than a normal nail polish. BUT I wouldn’t say it has the lasting power of a real gel manicure – I’d say my mani lasts for about 7 – 8 days before my nails start to chip.

    Hi Luzanne
Thanks for the interesting and fun post. It’s great to see what’s coming to stores before the time so one can save a few Rand to try new products.
Please let me know your favourite online beauty store. I live almost 2hrs drive from the nearest large mall so tend to order quite a lot online.
    All the best.

  27. 4 May 2016 / 11:47

Did you get your hands on that Lush Golden Egg? Goodness gracious me – I kept mine until we had a cold spell, and I whipped it out one night for a hot bath.

The glitter is the furthest thing from fine!? I lay in the bath for ages, and only when I got out did I realise how sparkly I still was. I hopped into the shower that same evening, and again the next morning, and I looked like I’d just been working at a strip club. A really good scrub with my exfoliating gloves seemed to do the trick but WOW that stuff stayed put.
