Wow! I have so many new & exciting products to how you in this blog post, so I’m going to keep this intro short and sweet… February is a very special month for me – it’s my birthday month (I wish I could physically look as young as I feel in my heart, these wrinkles are KILLING me), it’s our anniversary month (Neal and I will be married 3 years on the 25th), plus it’s the month of pink hearts & romantic makeup looks and manicures.
Speaking of Valentine’s Day, check out this stunning travel mug I bought at Woolworths a few weeks ago – rose gold glitter, a pink heart and filled with marshmallows…it’s like it was made just for me! These retail for R 89,95 at Woolworths stores or online here (they still have in stock).
Let’s move on to the new products releases for the month of February 2015:
The Smashbox Step-By-Step Contour Kit is also launching this month and it looks like a beaut (I’ll definitely be taking a look at the kit when I go to swatch the Full Exposure palette in-store)! Define your cheekbones, perfect your nose and sculpt your jawline with this palette of blendable powders in universal shades to match your skin tone. Contains 3 powders to contour, bronze and highlight, plus an angled contour brush and a #SHAPEMATTERS insert with how-to’s for your face shape. This contour and highlight kit will retail for R 550,00 at Smashbox counters in selected Edgars, Red Square and Woolworths stores.
Boy, am I excited about this launch! Scholl will be launching their new Velvet Smooth Electronic Foot File – with each spin of the specially designed Micralumina roller, Scholl Velvet Smooth Electronic Foot File buffs away dry, hard skin in minutes leaving you with fabulous feet that you’ll want to show off. The battery operated device spins the foot-friendly roller in a rotating action that is gentle but firm enough to buff away rough, hard skin as you run it over your trouble spots (for me, it’s my heels). The electronic foot file will retail for R 399,99, replacement heads will retail for R 149,99 (for 2) and their daily foot moisturiser will retail for R 99,99 at Pick n Pay, Dis-Chem & Clicks stores and online at Takealot & Rubybox.
Scholl very kindly sent me a Velvet Smooth kit and I must say, my feet are loving it. It’s perfect for both Summer and Winter feet and is now a staple in my pedicure routine. I love that I don’t have to deal with sharp blades (like those scary callus removers) and the Scholl Velvet Smooth Electronic Foot File is equipped with a safety stop that switches off as soon as too much pressure is applied to the skin.
Morgan Taylor The Enchantment Collection launches this month – it’s a limited edition nail polish collection featuring 6 brand new shades that were apparently inspired by the mystical storybook forests we used to dream about as children. Taylor Daniel and Morgan Haile (the namesakes of the brand) then goes on to say: “Though the colour spectrum is sophisticated, it is lighthearted and evokes the fanciful feelings of childhood.” You guys have no idea how long I have waited for this collection to arrive in South Africa – when I first saw it on the Morgan Taylor Twitter page last year, my heart skipped a beat and I retweeted most of their Enchantment Collection tweets. Morgan Taylor nail polishes retail for R 110,00 but this collection will be exclusive to Dis-Chem stores & Sorbet salons.
‘Now You See Me’ (second from the right, a rich chocolate brown shimmer), ‘Magician’s Assistant’ (third from the right, a soft pink with lavender & pink shimmers) and ‘Hocus Pocus’ (first, a muted minty green creme) WILL be mine. I’m scooping them up as soon as I see them in-store!
Clinique has launched their Aromatics In White Eau De Parfum – pure and refined, this fragrance celebrates the complexity of surprising dimensions (there’s a hint of the original Aromatics Elixir fragrance but this one has definitely been modernised to suit the twenty-first century woman). With its confident interplay of serene woods, transparent petals and warm amber notes, this alluring scent will leave a trail of intrigue. Top notes of sichuan pepper, elegant violet leaves and labdanum and a gentle transition towards the heart comes with floral shades of roses and orange blossom, surrounded with patchouli, creating a harmonious union of floral and earthy textures. Depth and sensual aromas are ensured by leather musk, intertwined with warm grey amber and vanilla. Aromatics in White will retail for R 660,00 (30ml), R 865,00 (50ml) and R 1135,00 (100ml).
Clinique also launches their Sculpting Chubby Sticks (it’s already online) this month, with 1 contour and 1 highlight creamy stick. Both sculpting sticks are long-wearing and oil-free. If you are not sure how to contour or highlight, you can take a look at this blog post. Sculpting Chubby Sticks retail for R 280,00 each at Clinique counters and online here.
Curvy Contour – Creamy contouring stick creates the illusion of depth; makes areas appear to recede.
Hefty Highlight – Luminous cream highlighting stick with light-reflecting optics brings your best features forward.
The Body Shop launched their new limited edition Smoky Poppy body care range yesterday – enriched with real, hand-picked poppy flowers from the Ankara region of Turkey. This sensual and indulgent range is infused with a seductive, euphoric scent that will leave you longing for more. The range includes a shower gel (R 99,00), body butter (R 150,00), body lotion (R 110,00), Eau de Toilette (R 150,00), bath bombs (R 185,00), body scrub (R 140,00), massage oil (R 130,00) and various gift sets too.
I’m definitely buying a container of the bath bombs, as I’d like to see how they compare to the LUSH bath bombs!
Also, part of this range is their new Lip & Cheek Velvet Sticks – inspired by the super bright and sensual poppy flowers these cute matte chubby sticks give lips a pop of colour and cheeks a natural flushed glow. There will be 5 shades available, plus a universal shade that adapts to the unique pH of your skin & turns into your own unique poppy shade. These will retail for R 120,00 each and will be available at The Body Shop stores nationwide.
L’Occitane launches their Fleurs De Cerisier collection this month, and let me tell you, it’s a winner! The collection abounds in natural scents and colourful landscapes from Southern France, Luberon region, winning us over with sweet & fruity cherry aroma blended with a gentle and feminine bouquet. L’Occitane Fleurs de Cerisier L’Eau reveals lush cherry blossoms on tree branches while the air is filled with the freshness of lemon, black currant and watermelon in the top notes. The heart of the composition develops cherry blossom, rose, orchid and white flowers, while the base features shades of warm wood and sensual musk. The collection will feature an Eau De Toilette (R 560,00), Shower Milk (R 230,00 for 250ml or R 135,00 for 75ml), a Hand Cream (R 120,00) and a Moisturising Milk (R 370,00 for 250ml or R 135,00 for 75ml) and will be available in L’Occitane boutiques or online here.
I was lucky enough to receive the Eau De Toilette, hand cream and Shower Milk and I am in love with the scent (and the packaging) – it’s a perfect mix of fresh, juicy, floral, feminine and fruity.
FILORGA launches their new Perfect+ Serum for improved texture, reduced pores and a healthy glow. To improve upon the skin texture Perfect+ contains a peeling-like exfoliating complex of 5 Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) derived from lemon, orange, sugarcane, bilberry and sugar maple fruit extracts. Neurobiox, a powerful skin-boosting ingredient boosts cell renewal. To assist with oiliness and enlarged pores, Perfect+ contains Mastic, a powerful astringent active ingredient known for its antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and ability to tighten pores. PMMA spheres have an immediate effect on shiny skin, absorbing excess sebum on the surface of the skin for an instantly visible mattifying effect that lasts all day. A plant-based active ingredient acts in harmony with the amino acids in the skin’s outer layer and generates brown-coloured polymers called melanoids. This effect gives skin a golden glow which is completely water resistant and fades in about a week. Perfect+ is available at selected Edgars & Red Square stores and retails for R 865,00.
Two very exciting new releases from Dermalogica – their Redness Relief SPF20 Primer and the Breakout Control gel.
Redness Relief Primer (R 630,00) – as part of the brand’s UltraCalming line, this is a facial primer with a sheer green tint (to counteract redness). This new formula calms irritation, protects skin from UVA/UVB exposure which can further aggravate sensitisation, produces a smooth, translucent, red-neutralising finish for an even skin tone, and primes the skin surface for more flawless makeup application and longer make-up wear.
Breakout Control (R 620,00) – a new product developed to treat adult acne WITHOUT Benzoyl Peroxide, a common irritant for sensitive skin. This fast-absorbing gel contains natural antibacterial agents to help clear and prevent breakouts without over-drying the skin. Stimulates the removal of impaction plugs (whiteheads / blackheads) and regulates sebum (oil) production to help skin clear and heal without the use of Benzoyl Peroxide. Breakout Control contains a non-tinted formula that may be used as a spot-treatment or as an all-over treatment for adult acne. Formulated without artificial fragrances, colors or parabens.
Finally!! theBalm products are now available in South Africa – thanks to Retail Box. If you’re unfamiliar with theBalm products, then take a look at their website here. Basically they’re a brand that produces some of the most beautiful makeup products I have ever seen (the packaging has that retro pinup vibe) and if there’s one product you NEED to get your hands on, it’s the Mary-Lou Manizer highlighter. Retail Box doesn’t stock the whole range, but they do stock the best sellers i.e. Nude ‘Tude eyeshadow palette (already sold out but will hopefully be back in stock soon), Schwing Liquid Eyeliner and Hot Mama Blush (which is apparently a good dupe for NARS Orgasm). Product prices range from R 220,00 to R 529,99 online here.
MAC Cosmetics will be releasing the Viva Glam Miley duo on the 13th of February, you can take a look at the most beautiful lip swatch I have ever seen on the Nikkie Tutorials blog here (seriously, the swatch is so perfect it kind of makes me sick…in a good way). The lipstick will retail for R 195,00 and the Lipglass lipgloss for R 185,00 at MAC counters & online here.
Did you know? Every single cent of the selling price of a Viva Glam Lipstick & Lipglass goes toward helping women, men and children affected by HIV / AIDS.
John Frieda is launching their Sheer Blonde Brightening Oil Elixir and Conditioning Treatment this month and will be available at Clicks stores. Blonde gals know that with time, hair can sometimes look darker and duller than they would like. This is because any product build-up or residue left on the hair shaft is more apparent in lighter shades of colour. To optimise shine for blonde hair, any dulling residues must be removed without stripping or drying the hair out. Whilst most shampoos cleanse the hair’s surface dirt, oil and styling products, the Sheer Blonde range goes beyond this to remove mineral deposits commonly found in even normal tap water. Blonde hair is immediately energised and uplifted to look its best and a bright and dazzling colour is revealed.
Sheer Blonde Brightening Oil Elixir (R 110,00) – designed exclusively for blonde hair, each drop revives dull, dry hair for improved blonde colour. Doubles up as a heat protectant and treatment containing Argan- and Sunflower oils.
Sheer Blonde Hair Repair Conditioning Treatment (R 95,00) – nourishes and strengthens blonde hair restoring dry, damaged blonde hair to a silky & manageable condition. Can be used as a daily or weekly deep-conditioning treatment.
Don’t forget – the Crabtree & Evelyn online Summer SALE starts on the 9th of February and ends on the 10th! You can expect between 30% and 60% off selected products in the online store. Apart from stocking up on some of your own personal favourites, the Summer SALE is timed at the beginning of the year to give you the opportunity to plan your gifting schedule for those special people and occasions coming up soon. Remember: The product line-up is refreshed daily, so there’s always a good reason to pop in again and again – you never know what you’ll find.
♥ Just to keep you updated: It’s my birthday on the 8th (this weekend) and Neal is whisking me away to Karkloof Safari Spa for a delectable spa weekend. Karkloof is my number 1 favourite spa for so many reasons, the most important being there is a sense of ‘timelessness’, which means there are no set times for meals, spa treatments or other activities (i.e. game drives) – time is their gift to you. You can have as many spa treatments as you would like on a day (I usually spend the whole day, every day at the spa), all meals & beverage are included and you can go on private game drives whenever you want.
We’ll be leaving on Thursday afternoon and will return on Monday morning – eeeep! I am so looking forward to a nice weekend filled with relaxing pamper sessions! Only natural ingredients and essential oils are used in their spa treatments – my personal faves are: Thai Melon & Honey Facial, Coconut Body Polish, Coconut Body Wrap, Lanna Hot Oil Hair & Scalp Treatment, and the Aroma Thai Massage. Bliss…
