Yes, I know we are well into the month of December already. And yes, I know I should have had this blog post up a couple of days ago already. Tut-tut… But things have been very busy around these parts for the past couple of weeks and all I can say is: Better late than never, girls…
I cannot believe Christmas is around the corner! Neal and I were actually doing Christmas shopping the other day and as we walked past the Woolworths shop window and I saw the Xmas lights like these ones (only they’re white and without the stars and with a power cord)…
…I almost had a minor heart attack because I remember last year I asked the Store Manager whether they would be selling them (as I’ve been looking for these types of Xmas lights for such a long time) and he had said no (they were only for display). My point is, though, it feels like I asked the Manager just a couple of months ago but it has actually already been a year! Phew! Time really does fly when you’re having fun (blogging = fun)!
Anyway, so on with the favourites fun…
First up we have the Soap & Glory Hand Food hand cream.
The packaging says: “The most astonishing hand cream ever!?” Yes, it is! I agree and Neal agrees too. Neal was very sneakily using my new Soap & Glory hand cream (even before I started using it) for about a week before he admitted to loving it. And he actually also said it was the best and most moisturising hand cream he had ever used (plus he really likes the scent). The fact that he likes the scent does send alarm bells off in my head because it is a very girly scent – almost like Miss Dior Chérie (but with a hint of yumminess). What I love about this hand cream is that it really does moisturise & nourish the skin, it doesn’t just mask dry skin (I find some hand creams tend to make your hands appear moisturised but as soon as you wash your hands again, you’re back to having dry skin).
Favourite because it deeply moisturises and soothes dry, chapped skin but without any greasy residue. A little goes a long way plus the results are long-lasting.
Next up we have a Balm Balm product from their new Frankincense range – the Organic Hydrosol.
This little bottle is a soothing facial toner, it’s 100% natural and organic (which I love). Spraying this on your skin after a nice hot shower is the most refreshing thing in the world (keep it in the fridge for an instant wake-up call in the morning). Frankincense is well known for its rejuvenating effect on the skin, plus it helps to improve skin tone and condition. It also acts as a balancer (reducing excess dryness or oiliness), returning the skin condition back to normal due to its astringent properties.
Favourite because it refreshes my skin plus I love the spray nozzle, it sprays a light mist (as opposed to some spritzer bottles from other brands that disperse too much product, almost like spraying water droplets on your face).
Then we have the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Gel.
I’ve been using this moisturising gel non-stop for the past month because it has been quite hot and humid around in Centurion. If I apply a moisturiser / lotion that is too heavy, I’m oily by midday and my pores become blocked (and we all know where blocked pores lead…). This gel has been perfect because it acts like a gel, and then it also doesn’t act like a gel. It acts like a gel in that it is light on the skin – it moisturises combo / oily skin juuuuust enough but doesn’t leave behind that oily layer you sometimes get from using a full-on moisturiser. Plus, it also doesn’t feel like a gel on the skin i.e. it doesn’t dry out the skin & leave it tight at all.
Favourite because it creates the perfect lightly moisturised canvas for my makeup plus keeps the oiliness at bay. I have noticed a difference in that my face only really starts getting oily around late afternoon (as opposed to around lunch-time).
And then we have the Camomile Silky Cleansing Oil from The Body Shop.
This great product was gifted to me by Nicole in my last Delish Box. I didn’t start using it right away because I wanted to finish my MAC Cleanse Off Oil first. I am SO in love with this cleansing oil, though, more so than I ever was with the MAC one (and it’s less than half the price!). It smells amazing (a subtle floral scent) plus can be used on its own or as the first step to any double-cleansing routine(which I am a firm believer of). It removes ALL your makeup (even waterproof makeup) in one go and leaves the skin feeling plump and looking glowing.
Here’s how I use mine: Pump 1 or 2 pumps into your hand, rub your hands together and massage onto the face (dry face, not wet face) in circular motions (paying special attention to the eye area). Then rinse off with warm water (you can also use a warm, damp muslin cloth).
Favourite because it dissolves all traces of makeup, it’s suitable for the eye area plus it contains no parabens (or any other naughty ingredients).
Second to last, we have a gorgeous nail polish I have been obsessed with this month – Essie Play Date.
This little polish was also gifted to me by Nicole – thanks, Nicole! I instagrammed a photo of this on my nails and commented that it is the BEST purple polish in the history of the world (and I stand by that statement!). It’s a bright purple cream polish that is a total breeze to apply (I only need 2 coats).
Here is a swatch for you:
Favourite because it’s the perfect Summer shade (it will most definitely be featured in my upcoming ‘Top 5 Summer Nail Polishes’ blog post).
And then we have a new must-have BB cream of mine – the Sorbet BB cream.
Anyone who is looking for an affordable BB cream that is suitable for most skin types, look no further. This is it! This one BB cream is suitable for normal, combo, dry and oily skin (combo / oily girls will just have to set it with a powder). I’ve read a few reviews on this BB cream from bloggers who have different skin types to mine, so I know it works for most skin types. It melts into the skin (it doesn’t feel like you are wearing makeup) and evens out the skin really well. Would you guys like to see a full review on this with swatches? Let me know and I’ll do one for you!
Favourite because it has the coverage & longevity of a foundation, yet is light on the skin.
And then my unfavourite for the month, the Bourjois 8 in 1 BB cream.
When something states it does so many things in 1, then I kind of expect it to be a fail. It’s like being a jack of all trades & a master of none. And that is definitely the case with this BB cream. My friend, Ada, bought this BB cream and didn’t like it. She then asked me to give it a try to see what my experience would be like. The first thing that put me off about this product, is that it’s a cream product (I am not a fan of cream foundations). I tried to apply it using my Beautyblender (fail) and then a foundation brush (also fail) – I say ‘fail’ because it provided absolutely no coverage. And the minimal coverage it did give me, was blotchy and uneven. I immediately washed my face and I haven’t used it since. I love Bourjois products (I own a lot of them) but this one was a disappointment for me.
I hope you guys have had a great week so far!
