No Mirror Makeup Challenge

No Mirror Makeup Challenge

I recently filmed a video that’s a little bit different – and it was so much fun!  A lot of people have asked me to film the ‘No Mirror Makeup Challenge’ and so I decided to do it for you.  In case you’re not sure what it is, well…basically I apply a full face of makeup but I have NO mirror in front of me.  It’s so funny, though, because even though this is supposed to be a challenging video I felt so relaxed while filming it.  I think it’s noticeable in the video, it’s like it’s just you and me in a room and we’re just chatting about makeup.  And in true Luzanne form, I say a couple of things that were quite embarrassing.

This isn’t one of those ‘No Mirror Makeup Challenge’ videos where the person tries to be funny by applying random makeup products very messily to basically their whole face.  Nope, I actually REALLY tried to create a pretty makeup look.  Well…as pretty is it can be without using a mirror.

I indicate all the names of the products on the screen while I’m using them and while we’re on the subject of products used, I have 2 things I would like to touch on:

People often ask me why I still use the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water even though I don’t really like it (I gave it a not-so-positive review in this blog post).  Here’s the reason: I paid R400,00 for it and I’m not the type of person to just throw something away because it doesn’t deliver on its promises (unless it irritated my skin or something like that).  R400,00 is a lot of money for me and I don’t feel comfortable passing it onto someone else either, because I know it will only be a refresher spray for them as well.  So I might as well spritz it on my face every now and again before I apply my makeup.  It feels refreshing on the skin, and that’s always nice.  I also often use the Smashbox Primer Water to refresh / rehydrate my Beautyblender before I use it to blend out my concealer.  Speaking of a Beautyblender – have you entered my Beautyblender kit GIVEAWAY?  The prize is pretty darn awesome!  You can enter it here.

You’ll notice 2 of the products I use in the video are not available in South Africa – I decided to use them because I reckoned you probably wouldn’t want to recreate the ‘makeup look’ anyway.  I use the term ‘makeup look’ very loosely…  Haha!

When I film my videos, I always film them in front of a huge sliding door window.  In some of the clips it looks like I’m looking at something in front of me (I imagine some people might think it’s a mirror) but I was actually just being a creeper looking at the neighbour’s garden.  Promise – there was NO cheating involved.  I also covered all the mirrors in the powder compacts and eyeshadow palette with a tissue.

You can watch my video by clicking on the image below, it will take you through to the video on YouTube.  Please give the video a ‘thumbs up’ if you enjoyed it, and share on your social media platforms if you think it’s something that might interest your friends or family.

Remember to watch in HD (720p) – all you have to do is click on the gear icon at the bottom right corner of the video screen and choose 720p.

I hope you enjoy watching the video – let me know how you think I did.  Did I ace it?  Or was it a complete and utter fail?

Oh!  And if you have any questions regarding any of the products I used in the video, let me know in the comments section below.

Loved the video, and you did a pretty good job! 🙂 What nail color are you wearing ??

    • 14 April 2016 / 10:28

Thank you, Piyusha. 🙂 I’m wearing Woolworths JT One nail polish in #Funky – I featured it here:

The gold glitter polish is OPI nail polish in My Favourite Ornament.

P.S. I always indicate what nail polish and lipgloss / lipstick I’m wearing in each video in the ‘Show More’ section of the video on YouTube. 🙂

You should check out for your eyebrows. I am going next weekend (very nervous!)
I’m so not the type to do anything semi-permanent, but this lady is a real artist. Anyway, thought you might find it interesting.

    • 14 April 2016 / 10:31

Aaaaaah, I want to do microblading SOOOO BAAAAAAD!!! I really want to try it, but I’m so apprehensive because it’s so permanent. The artist really has to know what they’re doing. If you post a photo on social media, please tag me so that I can see what it looks like. 🙂

I have to say that you actually did really well! Maybe even better than I do with a mirror 😀 Lol. But seriously, you didn’t pack the makeup on or anything. But yep, eyebrow game was a bit crazy 😀 Lol, I loved the vid. Thanks Luzanne!

Thank you, Kelly. 😉 Haha! I doubt I did better than you when you use a mirror… 😀

Brows got a bit out of hand there… 😉

Well done – one can only do your make up like that if you know your face well.

I loved this video, and yes you look very relaxed 🙂 I had an idea for a video to pitch to you…lol., but I for the life of me can’t remember now…GRRRR

So I got the Smashbox Primer water unfortunately before I read your review…. I’m not hating it, but I think I’m not that well versed in primer waters/setting sprays (before this I was using the Woolies one) so my opinion may be an uneducated one…lol. Yesterday when hubby picked me up from work he said: Wow your make up looks exactly like it looked this morning when I dropped you off.

So I thought hmmm maybe it’s doing something for my make up? Nikkie (from Nikkie Tutorials) featured it as a favorite for her so I’m hopeful it wasn’t a total waste of R400. If nothing else…I love spraying and spraying myself with it. lol. I do think hubby was so complimentary as he knows how bummed I am that I maybe wasted my money. So bless him if he lied to make me feel better about the money. ha ha

I always value your opinion and everything you’ve recommended that I’ve bought i have loved….so when you say the water sucks, I believe the water sucks… just so you know.

Will you be doing any tutorials in the near future?

    • 14 April 2016 / 10:36

Ok, send me a tweet when you remember what video you want me to do. 😉

Your husband sounds like such a lovely guy, you’re very lucky. I totally agree with you, though, there are a lot of other bloggers and vloggers who love the Primer Water so it might just be me being extra picky. 😉 It feels lovely and refreshing on the skin, and I love that it sprays like a really fine mist – but I just don’t find it does anything for my makeup.

Go read my reply to your comment on my ‘Affordable Makeup Starter Kit’ blog post – I explain why I’m having trouble with filming makeup tutorials. I need to get my head screwed on straight, and just doooooo eeeeeeeet! 😉

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video – you were so relaxed, and like you said, it was like we were just having fun with makeup. You did really well, I never would have been able to do that well. I was a bit worried about the liner, but then it all worked out in the end. 😉

    • 14 April 2016 / 10:37

Thank you so much for the positive feedback, Una – I really appreciate it. 🙂
