I recently filmed a video that’s a little bit different – and it was so much fun! A lot of people have asked me to film the ‘No Mirror Makeup Challenge’ and so I decided to do it for you. In case you’re not sure what it is, well…basically I apply a full face of makeup but I have NO mirror in front of me. It’s so funny, though, because even though this is supposed to be a challenging video I felt so relaxed while filming it. I think it’s noticeable in the video, it’s like it’s just you and me in a room and we’re just chatting about makeup. And in true Luzanne form, I say a couple of things that were quite embarrassing.
This isn’t one of those ‘No Mirror Makeup Challenge’ videos where the person tries to be funny by applying random makeup products very messily to basically their whole face. Nope, I actually REALLY tried to create a pretty makeup look. Well…as pretty is it can be without using a mirror.
I indicate all the names of the products on the screen while I’m using them and while we’re on the subject of products used, I have 2 things I would like to touch on:
People often ask me why I still use the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water even though I don’t really like it (I gave it a not-so-positive review in this blog post). Here’s the reason: I paid R400,00 for it and I’m not the type of person to just throw something away because it doesn’t deliver on its promises (unless it irritated my skin or something like that). R400,00 is a lot of money for me and I don’t feel comfortable passing it onto someone else either, because I know it will only be a refresher spray for them as well. So I might as well spritz it on my face every now and again before I apply my makeup. It feels refreshing on the skin, and that’s always nice. I also often use the Smashbox Primer Water to refresh / rehydrate my Beautyblender before I use it to blend out my concealer. Speaking of a Beautyblender – have you entered my Beautyblender kit GIVEAWAY? The prize is pretty darn awesome! You can enter it here.
You’ll notice 2 of the products I use in the video are not available in South Africa – I decided to use them because I reckoned you probably wouldn’t want to recreate the ‘makeup look’ anyway. I use the term ‘makeup look’ very loosely… Haha!
When I film my videos, I always film them in front of a huge sliding door window. In some of the clips it looks like I’m looking at something in front of me (I imagine some people might think it’s a mirror) but I was actually just being a creeper looking at the neighbour’s garden. Promise – there was NO cheating involved. I also covered all the mirrors in the powder compacts and eyeshadow palette with a tissue.

I hope you enjoy watching the video – let me know how you think I did. Did I ace it? Or was it a complete and utter fail?
Oh! And if you have any questions regarding any of the products I used in the video, let me know in the comments section below.
