NEW! Clarins Double Serum [Hydric + Lipidic System]

Clarins Double Serum Hydric Lipidic System

I’m very much into my skincare these days – let’s be real, I’m not a spring chicken anymore.  I wish could say I’m 24 years old, but instead I’m 34…and fine lines & winkles have become a problem.  The type of problem that makes me roll my eyes every time I look in the mirror.  Because of this, I have upped my skincare game in a big way, and while I’m fortunate enough to test all the latest lotions and potions, I’ll only continue to use a skincare product if: 1. It packs a punch in the active ingredients department; and 2. It REALLY works well and I see noticeable improvements in my skin.

Many skincare products offer lofty promises, but we all know they don’t always deliver.  I’ve been testing the new & improved Clarins Double Serum [Hydric + Lipidic System] for about 3 weeks now (long enough for me to form a solid opinion on its efficacy) and today I’ll be sharing my thoughts on it with you.

This is a reformulation of one of Clarins’ cult classics, which they call their Next Generation Serum (it’s actually their 8th generation serum).  So what exactly has been improved with regards to the serum?  Well, it’s very similar to the product that was loved by so many ladies worldwide BUT the new reformulated version contains absolutely NO mineral oil (the previous version consisted of 20 plant extracts in a mineral oil base).  They have also revamped the ingredients – it still contains the original 20 plant extracts but they’ve added another potent ingredient called Turmerone (a derivative of Turmeric).  I’ll cover all the skincare benefits of each ingredient a bit later down in the blog post.

It’s also important to note that Clarins created the most natural formula possible which includes organic ingredients (whenever possible) sourced from fair trade practices.

The Clarins Double Serum [Hydric + Lipidic System] contains two anti-ageing serums which combine to treat loss of firmness, along with dullness and uneven texture.  It works for ALL ages, ALL ethnicities, and ALL skin types (even sensitive skin) and will target your specific skincare needs.  If you have combination skin, you’ll notice a visible improvement in your pores.  If you struggle with dehydrated or dry skin, you’ll see an immediate improvement in fine lines & wrinkles.  And if you have normal or sensitive skin, it will provide the anti-ageing boost your skin needs to look youthful and radiant.

Did you know?  Serums usually contain the highest concentration of active ingredients that you can get without a prescription.  I read somewhere that cleansers and moisturisers usually contain between 5% and 10% active ingredients, while serums can contain up to 70%!  Serums are a sure fire way to get a potent boost of active ingredients into the deeper layers of the skin.  And remember, serums are always applied after cleansing but before our daily moisturiser.

Clarins Double Serum Next Generation 2017

PACKAGING:

Because the Clarins Double Serum contains both a water phase (Hydric) and an oil phase (Lipidic), the bottle features two separate compartments.  The double formula brings together the most powerful anti-ageing plant extracts that are either soluble in water or soluble in oil without the risk of being incompatible or unstable.  Each application / squirt contains one-third of the oil phase and two-thirds of the water phase.

The packaging is phenomenal!  In the new 2017 packaging the oil phase is housed in the centre core, surrounded by the water phase (both are kept separate from one another).  Another new feature of the revamped bottle is the adjustable dial system.  The press-down button can be turned to customize the dosage that is dispensed.  There’s a ‘setting’ for dehydrated / dry skin or cold climates (larger dose) and then there’s also a ‘setting’ for normal / oily skin or hot climates (smaller dose).  Personally, even though I have combination skin I find the smaller dose isn’t enough for me to cover both my face and neck – so I have my little dial on the larger dose setting at all times.

INGREDIENTS:

Clarins Double Serum [Hydric + Lipidic System] optimises the performance of your day and night moisturisers by boosting your skin’s 5 vital functions: Regeneration (skin firmness), Oxygenation (radiance), Nutrition, Hydration and Protection (fights free radicals).

It contains the following plant extracts:

Avocado Extract helps to purify and plump up the skin, while Avocado oil softens and promotes suppleness.  Oat helps to fight skin dryness and soothe sensitive skin, plus the sugars provide exceptional tightening benefits.  Green Banana Extract promotes the synthesis of collagen and helps provide a replenishing effect on the skin.  Cocoa helps to nourish the skin, protect it from dehydration and prevent skin ageing.  Beautyberry Extract helps promote a radiant complexion, thanks to its protective action on microcirculation.  Teasel Extract encourages the production of an energizing molecule, that helps to fight free radicals.  Mary Thistle Seed Oil is rich in essential fatty acids (Omega-6) that nourish and comfort the skin.  Turmeric Extract (Turmerone) helps to protect skin from oxidative stress and preserves cell communication.  Edelweiss Extract has amazing anti-ageing properties.  Ginger Lily Extract also has anti-ageing properties, plus it stimulates the synthesis of collagen.  Goji Berry Extract helps to boost the skin’s energy (regeneration).  Huang Qi Leaf Extract helps fight oxidative stress and the depletion of antioxidant defence systems.  Red Jania Extract encourages the elimination of dead cells and promotes a radiant complexion.  Leaf Of Life Extract helps boost the skin’s natural hydration mechanisms and encourage the synthesis of Hyaluronic Acid.  Kiwi Extract encourages cell nutrition by increasing the absorption speed of nutrients into the skin, this enhances radiance.  Mango Oil is high in the fatty acid Omega-9 and protects the skin from dehydration to nourish and promote supple & comfortable skin.  Mango Leaf Extract is high in an anti-free radical and antioxidant derivative that helps protect the skin against harmful UV rays.  Horse Chestnut is recognized for its beneficial action on microcirculation and draining properties.  Myrothamnus Extract prevents cell ageing, thus helping to protect skin from the visible harmful effects of environmental stress.  Java Tea (Orthosiphon Extract) helps regulate sebum production to improve skin texture.  Quinoa Seed Extract helps to reinforce the skin barrier.  And Marsh Samphire Extract helps retain water in epidermal cells to provide skin with optimal hydration.

Clarins Double Serum 2017 Review

MY THOUGHTS:

I’ve been using the Clarins Double Serum [Hydric + Lipidic System] for almost a month as part of my morning and evening skincare routine.  What I love about it is that it doesn’t leave any sticky residue on the skin and is compatible with all my other moisturisers.  This serum is so hydrating, I sometimes don’t even follow it up with a night moisturiser – it’s that good!  The formulation isn’t too rich for my combination skin, and I’ve found it also works well underneath makeup primers and foundation products.

As mentioned I’ve using this serum twice-daily for 3+ weeks and I haven’t even made a dent – impressive and a definite bang for your buck!

My skin feels so much smoother, firmer and I have bit of an extra ‘glow’ (not an oily glow, but a healthy & youthful skin glow).  When I wake up in the morning, my skin feels hydrated and looks brighter and plumper.  So far I’ve been really impressed with the results, and I imagine they’ll get even better as I continue to use Double Serum (yep, this baby has found a permanent spot on my skincare shelf).

I think the million dollar question is this: Would I purchase this serum with my own hard-earned cash?  Well…let me give you some background, I purchased the Clarins Double Serum back in 2013 but I didn’t repurchase it because of the mineral oil content (I only found out about it after I had already purchased it).  As mentioned earlier, the new & improved version contains no traces of any mineral oils and so I’ll be happy to repurchase Double Serum once I’ve used up every last drop!

You can find the Clarins Double Serum [Hydric + Lipidic System] in two sizes – a luxury 50ml (retailing for R1180,00) and a 30ml (retailing for R880,00), available in the Clarins South Africa online store or at Clarins counters in department stores nationwide.

I had a sample of this and I had planned to save it as a treat and now I’m realising I have NO idea where it is 🙁

This sounds really good and I definitely want to try it out! The plant extracts in this all sound amazing!

Ah this serum. I loved it and probably went through around 4 bottles of the stuff. It’s just always been out of my price range, so I got it as either a birthday gift or a Christmas gift. My mum was always super generous and splurged on the larger bottle for me too, so it lasted absolute ages!
It was (and still probably would be) hands-down the best serum I’ve used to date, and I’m so keen to put money aside for two months and just bite the bullet and get myself the big bottle. The difference in my skin when using it was so noticeable!
