Everyone likes a good haul video or blog post, right? Especially when it contains products that are not available in your home country – well, I know I like those types of hauls. It gives me a reason to scout the net for websites that sell those types of products & ship to South Africa, so that I can share the products with friends (if they’re noteworthy products, that is).
A couple of months ago I was contacted by Ashleigh (click on her name to check out her beautiful lifestyle blog) who is a South African blogger currently living in the UK. Ashleigh told me she was coming to South Africa and whether I would be willing to meet up with her for an interview and a ‘blog swap’ (I will be loading the blog swap blog post in the next couple of days). She came to South Africa to visit family and also to interview a couple of bloggers, local brands and celebrities for her blog. After chatting on Whatsapp and meeting each other in person, we have since kept in touch on a very regular basis (almost every day) and I am very happy to call her a very good friend.
Ashleigh and I are quite alike in terms of our personalities, so we got on like a house on fire the very first time we met and we have since shared a lot of ups and downs with each other. Ashleigh recently loaded her interview blog post, so you can take a look here (I actually had a lump in my throat whilst reading her blog post).
Ashleigh and I chatted on Whatsapp before her visit to South Africa and she asked me whether there were any beauty products that she could bring over from the UK for me. She didn’t have to ask me twice and I had to seriously keep myself in check to not ask her to bring a whole suitcase filled with products. I asked her to look for products that were travel sized (as I didn’t want her baggage to be heavy because of my things)! I kept it to things I have wanted to try out for the past couple of years – Origins being at the top of my list, with Bumble and bumble being a close second.
So, here’s my loot in all its glory:
I have been lusting after the Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask for a hot minute, and Ashleigh told me the Drink-Up Intensive Overnight Mask is just as wonderful, so she picked both up for me. I have already been using the heck out of the overnight mask since my skin has been particularly parched the last couple of weeks.
Bumble and bumble has always been a brand I have wanted to try, because you always hear the international beauty bloggers and vloggers raving about their products. I am obsessed with the packaging of the Surf Spray (it looks so darn fancy with the silver top) and the BB Tonic Lotion serves as a nutrient-rich hair detangler and styling primer that smoothes blow-dried hair and replaces moisture. This spray is perfect for dry, coarse, porous or colour-treated hair.
I couldn’t NOT ask for a little something from Soap & Glory, so I asked Ashleigh to bring me a tube of their No Clogs Allowed face mask (love the packaging of this). This hot clay face mask deep cleans, melts away pore-plugging sebum and softens skin cells to prevent breakouts and blemishes. It also changes from yellow to blue – heck yeah! Who doesn’t love a colour-changing face mask!?
Ashleigh recommended this Ojon Rare Blend Oil for hair, and since I’m always open to recommendations I was keen to give it a go. This is a 3-layer (amber, crystal & red) multi-tasking oil to tame frizz, protect, soften, and boost hair’s shine. This little miracle oil was the 2013 CEW Beauty Insiders’ Choice Winner.
During the time Ashleigh and I were chatting about what she could bring back to South Africa for me, the Revlon Lacquer Balm in Demure was nowhere to be found in South Africa. This was around the time when the Revlon Matte and Lacquer balms were just released here but even though Demure was stocked as a ‘Tester’ in most of the Clicks, Woolworths, Foschini, Edgars and Dis-Chem stores (yes, I checked all of these stores in and around my area for about 3 weeks straight), none of these stores had actual stock of Demure. It was like an urban legend, but with the Tester lurking around just to entice you! So I asked Ashleigh to bring one of these over for me from the UK, just in case we didn’t receive it. And lo and behold, Demure arrived in South Africa a couple of weeks later…
This haul totalled up to about £ 90,00 – not too bad considering there are some awesome brands in here. Thank you, Ashleigh, for being my little beauty mule – I appreciate it so much and thanks to you, I have some lovely new products to try out!
As mentioned, my ‘Beauty Blog Swap’ blog post will be up early next week – keep your eyes peeled for that!
