MAC Collections – In Extra Dimension & Temperature Rising

This blog post is long overdue, the above mentioned 2 collections are still on the counters at MAC but I am afraid a lot of the products are already sold out.  Sorry, girls…

A couple of weeks ago I went to my local MAC counter to check out the new collections.  The MAC girls know me by now and they contact me when a new collection comes out.  I was so excited on this specific Thursday because I knew of at least 2 collections that were out: Baking Beauties and Temperature Rising.  When I got there, however, there were 4 collections on display.  Eeeeep, what a delight!

The ‘Temperature Rising’ collection was quite interesting – I swatched almost all of the products and decided on a lipstick and a chubby eyeliner pencil.  Thinking back, I wish I had gotten one of the blushes or bronzing powders as well.  But alas, I threw caution to the wind because I already own way too many blushes.  I’m still building up my bronzer collection, so I should have purchased ‘Nude on Board’ – this is a bronzer that has been raved about by quite a few Youtube and beauty blogger ladies in the past (it seems to pop up every now and again in a collection).  Unfortunately it’s already sold out pretty much everywhere…

Let me start off by saying I absolutely love the look of this collection, it’s limited edition bronzed packaging with a soft smooth (almost rubbery) finish.  That lipstick looks like it’s a glowing bullet!

Lustre Lipstick in Altered Beige (Temperature Rising)

It’s a warm-toned, pinky beige colour and is one of their Lustre lipsticks (meaning it’s sheer in colour), which I prefer since it is a nude.  Opaque nudes wash me out so I tend to steer clear.  I find the Lustre lipsticks also a bit more moisturising than the Frost and Amplified versions but not as moisturising as the Cremesheen or Sheen Supreme ones.  I also like using this lipstick to lighten up other lipsticks that may be too dark for me to wear on a given day, mixing lipstick shades is so much fun because you could stumble on the perfect shade!  Retail price = R 200.00 ($ 16.50)

Powerchrome Eye Pencil in Copper Strip (Temperature Rising)

When I saw this little chubby guy I knew I had to have it.  I am a sucker for dark brown liners and this specific one reminded me of the MAC eyeliner pencil in Teddy – just a bigger, softer, chubbier version.  I do have Teddy but when I swatched this one, I noticed it goes on like butter.  It’s a mid-tone copper with a frosted finish, highly pigmented and goes on really smooth.  No tugging or pulling on the lid, which means less wrinkles in the long run.  The lasting power of this baby is incredible, it lasted 8 to 9 hours on my eyelids without creasing (I usually only wear makeup for 8 or 9 hours).  It can be used as an eyeliner or eyeshadow base.  Retail price =   R 220.00 ($ 21.00)

Extra Dimension Blush in At Dusk (In Extra Dimension)

I was really excited when I saw this blush, it’s a muted dusty baby pink colour with hints of very subtle gold shimmer.  Unfortunately after using it a couple of times, I noticed it’s not the longest lasting blush (it starts to fade after 2 – 3 hours).  One also needs quite a heavy hand to apply it since it is so subtle and sheer.  Looking back, I perhaps should have purchased their Flaming Chic blush from the same collection, it’s a bright coral pink with subtle shimmer. Retail price = R 230.00 ($ 25.00)

Unfortunately nothing in the ‘Baking Beauties’ collection tickled my fancy.  What a let-down, because I was really looking forward to getting at least one item from that collection since the colours were so gorgeous – pastel blues, pinks, yellows, greens, oranges and purples.  I went there thinking I would get one of the Pearlmatte Face Powders but when I swatched them, they were a bit too frosty for my liking.  Then I thought of getting a Paint Pot (cream eyeshadow) but I already had similiar colours in cream eyeshadows from Maybelline and previous MAC collections.  *sigh*

Nothing from the ‘Art Of The Eye’ collection had me interested either.  The colours in the collection, mostly eyeshadows and eyeliners, were quite vibrant.  I don’t like bright colours on my peepers, so I gave this collection a miss too.

There is a collection currently out at MAC called ‘Fashion Sets’, I only bought a nail polish called ‘Silly’.  It’s a pretty opaque baby pink colour, I’ll probably wear it on my nails this week.  I load photos of all my manis on Instagram (you can see my photos on the left sidebar), follow me if you’re on Instagram: Lamby6325

The next collection is called ‘All About Orange’ and will be out on South African MAC counters around the 20th of June 2013.  After seeing swatches / reviews from Temptalia, I have my eye on Double Happiness, Razzledazzler, Flamingo and Immortal Flower.  Eeeek!

The ‘Riri (Rihanna) Hearts MAC’ collection is also on the horizon in the US but will exclusively be available online, I hope it will be available to us here in South Africa as well.

Is there another blusher in the MAC range eg. a creamy longlasting one to lighten up some aging cheeks?

Yep, MAC does have cream blushers called ‘Cremeblend Blush’. Maybe go to a MAC counter to see which one will suit your skintone best.
