This month, Lancôme reveals a new chapter in the sweet-smelling journey of La vie est belle. Starring Julia Roberts, the beautiful short film portrays joyful femininity and happiness. In 2012, Lancôme struck a chord with women all over the world, introducing them to the ultimate olfactory experience with delicious, exhilarating notes: La vie est belle L’Eau de Parfum. Few fragrances have achieved such rapid, worldwide success as La vie est belle, and today it is the third top-selling women’s perfume in the world.
Julia Roberts has a million-dollar smile – it’s infectious, and it’s one of the things that makes her famous, yet relatable. The all-American belle fronts the newest short film from Lancôme, her intelligence, generosity and sense of commitment have stood the test of time.
Did you know? In French La Vie Est Belle means “Life is beautiful.”
During the next few days I’ll be giving you the inside scoop on this new and exciting chapter of La vie est belle. I have an exclusive Q&A interview with Julia Roberts that I will be sharing soon, a little teaser of the new short film, a GIVEAWAY, plus reviews of my favourite fragrances from the iconic La vie est belle line.
First up, I have a question for you: Can happiness be captured in a bottle?
Now, for me, there are 2 ways of looking at this – There’s an iconic smile nestled within the bottle. Do you see it? The crystal smile contains a delightful fragrance – a blend of youth, femininity, joy and elegance. This is personified by Julia Roberts, as she embodies the Lancôme woman with her dazzling aura and gorgeous smile.
I also like to think that happy memories can definitely be captured within a fragrance. I’m the type of person who ties memories to smells. My favourite happy memories are almost always triggered by scents and fragrances, which is why I like to spritz my wedding fragrance onto my pulse points whenever I’m having a particularly difficult or stressful day.
Let’s talk about one of my favourite fragrances from the La vie est belle lineup:
La vie est belle L’Eau de Parfum Intense took me by surprise when I first had the pleasure of sniffing it. I always thought the La vie est belle L’Absolu de Parfum (reviewed here) would be my ultimate favourite, but in the end this Intense version gave it a good run for its money. In terms of heart notes, La Vie Est Belle L’Eau de Parfum Intense is quite similar to the original La vie est belle fragrance (launched in 2012) but as the name suggests it’s a more intense version of the original. Top notes of bergamot, pear and orange gives Intense a zesty sparkle. The base is a delectable mix of hazelnut and cream as opposed to the original’s vanilla, patchouli and praline blend. Tuberose, ylang ylang, and pink pepper accords have also been added to the mix, which gives it a slightly candied and playful twist.
La Vie Est Belle L’Eau de Parfum Intense is a bit sweeter, and yet more bold and complex than the original. The fragrance itself isn’t overbearing at all, though, and I find it lasts very well on the skin. I am in love with the organza ribbon tied around the neck of the bottle, forming two ethereal wings on its beautiful silhouette.
To me, it’s a message of optimism in a rather cynical modern world. And a welcomed reminder that it’s often the little things that make us happy.
La Vie est Belle Intense is available at selected Stuttafords, Edgars, Woolworths, Foschini, Red Square and Truworths.
