Friday Favourite – Metallic Temporary Tattoos

Chronicle Books

I was planning on loading my review of the Essie Spring 2014 nail polish collection today, but I figured telling you guys about my amazing discovery was a little bit more important!  Don’t fret, the review on the Spring collection will be up this weekend.

If you follow me on Facebook and Twitter, you will probably know that I have been OBSESSED with Flash Tattoos.  After seeing MakeupByAlli rave about these in this video, I quickly popped onto the Flash Tattoo website, only to be absolutely gutted because they don’t ship to South Africa.  I then logged onto eBay to see if I could purchase it from a seller there, but it turned out being too pricey (including shipping to South Africa).

What are Flash Tattoos?  Flash Tats have been All. The. Rage. this Summer in the US!  They are basically jewelry-inspired non-permanent metallic tattoos.  These beauties were even mentioned on Vogue here.  Just google the words ‘metallic tattoos’ and prepare to fall in love.

I have found pretty decent dupe products for the ‘Flash Tattoo’ branded products for sale here in South Africa.  I was skimming through Spree yesterday and found the above fashion tattoos from Chronicle Books.  Spree is currently selling 3 of the 4 designs, one of which is nail art tattoo design.

Arm Candy features 5 colourful lengths of bright bands, threads, and geometric tattoo designs that can be cut into all kinds of arm candy.

Lacy features black, white, silver and gold lace designs for mixing and matching.

As mentioned above, there is also a nail art tattoo design set, perfect for the ladies out there who might not have the patience or skills to create an elaborate nail art manicure.  Take a look below:

Chronicle Books Glitz Glam

Glitz & Glam features 12 glamorous designs in gold, silver, black, and white.  Instant nail art – these pretty tattoos can be cut to size, applied to nails, and finished off with a top coat.

I am hoping Spree will also stock the fourth design called ‘Party’, check it out below:

Chronicle Books Party
Party features both metallic and colourful designs & can be cut to any length for rings, bracelets, cuffs, or just a hint of bling.

I’m definitely not saying these are perfect dupes for the original Flash Tattoos tattoos but I’m rather showing you we do have something similar here in South Africa, in case you have also been searching high and low for metallic tattoos.

Lacy is currently on SALE on Spree for R 90,00 and the other 2 designs retail for R 149,00 (Glitz & Glam) and R 175,00 (Arm Candy).

How to apply:  These temporary tattoos are super quick and easy it is to apply with the help of a little water.  Make sure your skin is clean, dry and free of any oils, cut out the tattoo as close to the edge as possible.  Place the tattoo face down on your skin and hold a wet face cloth (or any other cloth will do) against it for about 30 seconds.  Peel the paper side away from the skin and gently pat gently with the wet cloth. Try not to twist or stretch your skin until the tattoo has had time to set (about 10 minutes).  These types of tattoos always look better when they have had more time to set into the skin i.e. about an hour.

How to remove:  Simply apply baby oil or coconut oil to the skin and gently rub off.

These are temporary tattoos, so they will last about 4 to 6 days depending on where they are placed and how well you take care of them i.e. tattoos on your hands will not last as long as tattoos on your upper arms because you probably wash your hands a couple of times a day.  Also try to avoid products like sunscreen, lotions & oils as they will degrade the adhesive.

To see these Chronicle Books products in action, go check out this blog post.

Needless to say, I bought all 3 designs from Spree because 1.  I was overwhelmed with joy when I saw these online; and 2.  I like shopping.

Have a lovely weekend, everyone!

{UPDATE}  Spree doesn’t stock these metallic tattoos in their online shop anymore BUT I recently saw different metallic tattoos on the OhOneOne website, Toy Style website, as well as in-store at YDE (all are based in SA).
