Dove #ChooseBeautiful Campaign + GIVEAWAY

Dove Choose Beautiful

*clears throat*  Goodness me…Dove campaign videos always get me right in the throat!  I’ve been such a fan of their campaigns ever since the I was part of the Dove #RealBeauty campaign back in October 2013 (it was actually the very first campaign blog post I wrote).  Since then I have also been part of the Dove #BeautyIs campaign where I got to meet a few of my blog readers, you can take a look at that blog post here.  I really, really enjoyed having a meetup last year and will hopefully do something similar again in the future.

Grab a cup of tea or coffee, watch the short video below and then read the rest of my blog post:

The video explores what would happen if women from different countries all around the world (San Francisco, Shanghai, Delhi, London, Sao Paulo) were asked to choose to enter a building through 1 of 2 doors – ‘Beautiful’ or ‘Average’.

According to Dove, 96% of women would not describe themselves as ‘beautiful’.  There may be a number of reasons for this:  Perhaps women think it’s superficial?  Perhaps they’re too embarrassed to say it out loud?  Or maybe the reason is quite simple:  Some women genuinely don’t feel beautiful.  Is it because our views of ‘beauty’ are influenced by society’s relatively high beauty standards?  My absolute favourite clip in the video is where the mom pulls her daughter towards the ‘Beautiful’ door, and as the daughter walks through the door, she subconsciously does a hair flip.

Me?  I would choose the ‘Average’ door and writing this blog post will not magically change the fact that, like a lot of other women (and people in general), I have insecurities – physical, mental, emotional.

When I think about it, beauty isn’t just in the physical – it’s also in how we treat other people (when no one is watching), how we treat animals, the things we say, and the things we do.  Being the best version of ourselves, or at least aspiring to be that person.  Ever heard of the words ‘inner beauty’ – that’s it!  I think most of the women in the video chose to not walk through the ‘Beautiful’ door because they associated beauty only with how they look on the outside.  If that were the case, I wouldn’t walk through that door either.  But if I really think about it, I can see myself choosing the ‘Beautiful’ door because of my inner beauty.  I like to think I treat people with respect, I enjoy helping people & animals – all in all, think I’m an alright human being.

My point is, beauty = different things to different people:  Some mothers feel beautiful because they have given life to a little human being.  A busy Executive may feel beautiful because she is an avid gardener in her spare time.  A student might feel beautiful because she volunteers at an animal shelter.  Or perhaps a female member of the army feels beautiful when she wears makeup on the weekend.  Beauty is in the mind of the beheld, it takes many shapes and forms.  You just have to find that special thing that makes you feel beautiful.  And if you sit down and really think about it, I’m sure you will find something that makes you feel happy.

Audrey Hepburn Happy Girls

Audrey Hepburn knew what she was talking about when she said: “Happy girls are the prettiest girls.”  Do what makes you happy, distance yourself from the people who like to tear down your self-esteem, and the rest will follow.  It may not happen overnight, but it’s something we can all aspire to – a happy, healthy self.

What I take away from this campaign is that it’s not about what other people think is beautiful, or at least it shouldn’t be.  It’s about what beauty means to YOU and either working towards reaching a point where you feel beautiful, or if you’re already there, helping your friends or family reach that level of confidence too.

I have TEN amazing Dove hampers to give away to you, my lovely readers!  Each hamper will contain the following:

♥  Daily Care Shampoo

♥  Daily Care Conditioner

♥  Dove Hair Oil

♥  White Beauty Bar

♥  Deeply Nourishing Body Wash

♥  Instant Hydration Body Lotion

♥  Original Aerosol Deodorant

♥  Dove Branded Cosmetic Mirror

Dove Choose Beautiful Giveaway

I quite enjoyed involving my blog readers during the last Dove #BeautyIs campaign, so I’m handing over the mic to you again this time around.  I want to conduct my own little experiment to see how many of you would walk through the ‘Average’ door and how many would walk through the ‘Beautiful’ door.  Here’s what you need to do:

1.  Would you choose the ‘Average’ door or the ‘Beautiful’ door, AND why?  Comment below and tell me which door you would choose to walk through – there is no right or wrong answer.  {UPDATE} I will choose 5 winners from the comments section below.

2.  Tweet me, post on my blog’s Facebook page, send me a photo on Instagram & tell me what makes you HAPPY.  Be sure to tag me @PinkPeoniesBlog and @Dove_ZA, plus use the hashtag #ChooseBeautiful in your entry.  I’m a very visual person, so a photo or picture of something will be appreciated (don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be a selfie).  If you think being a mom adds to your beauty, send me a photo of your child.  If you feel beautiful because you discovered your ultimate favourite mascara, post a photo of the mascara tube.  If cooking a delicious meal makes you happy, send me a photo of that delicious meal.  {UPDATE} I will choose 5 winners on my social media platforms.

For this giveaway, I will not be choosing random winners but will handpick the comments / tweets / posts that stood out to me the most.

If I had to enter my own giveaway, I would probably send a photo of my little niece, Amelia, she’s almost 1 year old now.  Why?  Because she likes to stare at me, she always gives me a big ol’ smile when I play with her and doesn’t mind when I pick her up and take her for a walk in the garden (without mommy).  Take for instance when Neal picks her up, she starts screaming blue murder – haha!  I guess she doesn’t feel comfortable with most people yet, but she likes her aunty Luzanne.  It makes me feel special, which in turn brings a smile to my face & makes me feel beautiful – not on the outside, but on the inside.

OMG, and she is playing with makeup brushes!!  Michelle (my sister-in-law) is not into beauty or makeup but she owns a few makeup brushes and Amelia loves to play with them.  She’s definitely picking up on the beauty-girl vibes from her aunty Luz.

I’ll announce the 10 winners on the 1st of May 2015 on my Twitter, Facebook accounts, and in this blog post.

{UPDATE}  Congratulations to Anina Coetzee, Elize Swanepoel, Sandy Solomons, Tina Pieterse, Lynn Botha, Ghairun-Nisaa Boolay, Andrea Madikoto, Amelia Japhtha, Hayleigh Chamberlain and Ursula Strauss!  You are the winners of the Dove #ChooseBeautiful hampers – please send me an email containing your physical address & contact number for delivery of your prize.

I would choose the Beautiful door- Simply because I have reached the age where I am finally comfortable in my own skin, and see myself as beautiful. I have 2 gorgeous girls and try and tell them every single day that they are beautiful. Its so important to build their self esteem and self confidence early on. I still see some grown women who have not yet found that confidence, and I find it so sad that when complimented they actually don’t know how to take it because people rarely tell them good things about themselves. I always wonder when people will learn that inward beauty is actually what makes one beautiful on the outside!!!

I would choose the average door, because I am currently going through a difficult time. I recently broke up with my boyfriend which looking back is probably for the best, but it doesnt change the fact that my house feels empty. I hope to be back to a positive space soon. Thank you for this log post, Luzanne, it really got me thinking about where I want to be in life. Belinda vd Merwe

Well done on this beautiful blog post, Luzanne. I saw another Dove blog post from someone else this morning and it didn’t grab me as much as yours did.

I’d choose the “beautiful door” as I think my smile and positivity makes me beautiful.

I would walk through that BEAUTIFUL door and do a hairflip as well. I am lucky to be very outgoing and confident, something my mother contributed to earlier in my life when I was a child. Everyone should walk through the BEAUTIFUL door, Luzanne. There is always something beautiful about everyone.

If we could see souls instead of bodies, I’d say I’m beautiful. I know I have inner beauty…I.e kindness.compassion, love etc etc. But our inner beauty is not on display. People only see outer beauty and are most often mesmerised by a pretty face with plenty of powder and make-up. Going by what people see first,I’d say I’m average. I’m proudly average because I know my worth is priceless 🙂

Loved the video!!!! I would have chosen the Average door initially but after reading your blog post, I will choose the Beautiful door because you are right, beauty isn’t just about how you look, its about how you feel. Well done on being such an inspiration to your readers.

I choose BEAUTIFUL!!! 🙂 I’ve come from a hard, rough and heavy road to choose the B word. I’ve never liked my looks, my weight or my personality, but as time went by and many people like family and friends including strangers told me how physically beautiful I am I start to get such a wake up call and smelled thee coffee hehehe! As the saying goes ‘you should love yourself, before you can love someone else’ its just a great feeling. You become more positive, confident, have a different outlook in life and just being you. I simply love myself 🙂

I choose average cost I’m beautifully average in everyway. I’m confident enough to view myself in any way I want both physically and mentally. There’s days where I’m neither beautiful inside or out, but that’s my choose which only in can make. My beauty lies in my abilities to do everything my way and turn into a masterpiece.

I #ChooseBeautiful… Although I have physical things that make me feel unattractive sometimes (thanks for the skew teeth genes, Mom!), I always make sure I smile at strangers and help friends and family when they are in need. I work a busy job 6 days a week, but take the time on a Sunay to bake cakes to share with co-workers and friends. Baking makes me happy. @mar1shan

I choose the average door because I’m in high school and have been struggling with acne for a long time now. Boys aren’t interested in me, but I have friends who are really kind to me. My friends make me happy and I know they love me for who I am on the inside, not how I look on the outside. The world sees me as average, maybe even ugly and unfortunately that’s how I see myself at the moment.

Thank you for writing this blog post, L. I love your blog and will hopefully be able to start my own blog one day.

Jou posts beteken so baie vir my, ek gaan hierdie een verskeker vir al my vriendinne wys! Dis so spesiaal! Ek #choosebeautiful want ek het ‘n man wat my lief het, ‘n kind wat so lief vir sy mamma is dat dit my hart wil laat bars en ek het geleer om te eksperimenteer met makeup danksy jou. Soos hulle sê: Today I am happier than a corgi on stilts! 🙂

Your post has inspired me, L, and I thank you for that. Maybe tomorrow or next week I will be able to walk through the beautiful door. 🙂 Farzana M

Sitting at work crying like a baby after watching the video. Thanks Luzanne 🙂

I think most of the time I would choose the average door. Wearing little or no makeup, my weight, my scars, working for a boss and the fatigue I feel after a long hard day of work makes me feel oh so average and 50 years old. BUT when I look at my two babies and they smile back at me or laugh, my 2 year old son says ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you’ without being reminded to family and strangers and I know I’m succeeding as a mother, my husband compliments me in any way, when wear a full face of makeup and transform into a different person, pursuing my love of makeup so I can turn my passion into a business, those are the things that make me beautiful and I need to keep reminding myself of that. I #ChooseBeautiful

Thank you Luzanne because no matter who you choose in the end, everyone that watches this video learns that they are truly beautiful 🙂

Ek sal die bootiful deur kies, want ek trou oor ‘n paar weke en ek voel regtig fantasties op die oomblik. Ek sien so uit om ‘n huisie met my nuwe man te kan deel. 🙂

Hmmm, I really had to think about this one. I’m turning 30 this year and I’ve been reflecting on where I am in my life. Both physically and mentally. I would say some days I would choose average and others beautiful. I know I need to treat myself and my self worth better and this is what makes these Dove #ChooseBeautiful campaigns so powerful.

  32. 23 April 2015 / 16:46

I really love this Dove Campaign, and all the other Dove campaigns that are challenging society’s definition of beauty. For too long we as women have been made to feel inferior and lacking when compared to the dictator’s transcription of beauty. EACH and EVERY woman is beautiful and they deserve not only to look beautiful, but to feel it and believe it too. As a photographer of women, I’m on a mission to encourage women to see, feel & experience their own beauty, to own it and to shine their light so bright that they inspire the women and girls in their lives to do the same. If I can help one woman feel that way, and watch the ripple effect into the lives of the women around her, then I know I’m serving my purpose.
Thanks for a great post Luzanne. You always make women feel better about themselves! Well done you!

I will choose the Average door, I was brought up in a home where being beautiful was frowned upon, I wasn’t allowed to wear makeup or dress in a certain way. So now I’m used to looking average, but I guess you could say my inner beauty is beautiful.

Ek het hierdie clip vroeer in die week gesien en nie eens opgelet van die gedeelte van die mamma en dogter nie…. Eks nou so bly jy het dit uitgewys, want dis super spesiaal, het self n traan gepik. Ek hoop regtig ek kan my dogtertjie(eendag….) grootmaak met so n ‘sense of self value’.

#ChooseBeautiful I am a mother of two and I believe mothers are beautiful. There is nothing more beautiful and more powerful than bringing life into this world and nuturing and protecting that life with all your heart. My children have brought so much love and happiness into my life. So even though sometimes I have bags under my eyes and little crows feet and stretch marks and scars my children think I am the most beautiful mommy in the world because of who I am, they love me for me and it’s amazing to see how unconditional their love is too. I feel beautiful inside and beautiful outside. I know I’m not perfect but I am so grateful that I am healthy. I love my smile and my long hair and even my brown eyes but most of all love that I am a good person with good morals and values that would do anything for her children. That makes me beautiful and I #ChooseBeautiful everyday.

#proudtobeawoman

I choose the #beautiful door. I am the eldest of 5 kids. So that makes us 4 girls in the house. The girls rule the boys. Growing up with 2younger sisters have been a blessing as well as majestic nightmare.

They make me mad when they steal my clothes without asking and they make me happy when they do my chores for me when its that time of the month, I wish to have a gender swap. Hahaha

So the beautiful door because no matter what beautiful can see ugly when no one is looking. And behind that door is happiness, play fights, makeover and amateur fashion shows. Behind my happiness door is my safe haven -‘my let my hair down’ feeling. Beautiful is everything around you !!

I would choose the Beautiful door , beauty is a state of mind and doesn’t only imply to your outer appearance , it complies of your character traits . If we look at the Miss World and Miss SA pagents we see that the winner is chosen from a whole host of reasons from personality to intelligence to talent and how she carries herself . I love to laugh it makes me feel good and when I feel good I’m confident which makes me beautiful

5 years ago i would have chosen the ‘average’ door. Then my daughter was born. And when she looks at me and tells me how pretty i am, i know i am beautiful. Now i will choose the ‘beautiful’ door. With my stretch marks, staging tummy and grey hair. None of this is really important. She thinks i am beautiful so i will live beautiful. And to ensure she always coose the beautiful door, i will set the example.

  87. 24 April 2015 / 20:55

I would choose the beautiful door, because iv learnt in life to lift myself up because I can’t rely on other people to do it for me 🙂 I have to believe in myself! And i like to choose the more beautiful path in life! And this mindset generally puts me in a better mood. Compared to choosing the other path. I do however have average insecure side of myself like all girls I know. I’m just trying to choose the more positive side of everything! Even if that’s a door to walk through. Xx

#ChooseBeautiful I’ll definitely go through the beautiful door cause that’s the type of person I am. Always sees the best in everyone and has a positive outlook on life. My personality can sometimes be intimidating, why, cause I have lots of love to share and people rarely see me get upset or angry, and fear the day that it might happen lol(all trademarks of my precious mom). Would love 2 win this prize and give it 2 my mom;she sooooo deserves to feel pampered cause that’s how you feel after using Dove products.

I would choose the Beautiful because during my highschool times I’ve always been insecure with my self just because people had an opinion, but as I grew I’ve learnt to be confident, happy and loving. I’m now a mom and feel very beautiful when I look at my son I just feel complete. I’ve learnt that we shouldn’t listen to peoples negative comments because you will never be happy, and remember a simple Smile is the best beauty ever #ChooseBeautiful

I would choose the beautiful door as I truly believe that every human being is born with inner beauty namely a soul. When I look into the mirror, no matter what age has done to my complexion or my body, I choose to see the love that it took to create me. I am unique. Every single one of us are unique and loved. We are all beautiful individuals and I really think it is time we realized it. Love to all xxxx

    25 April 2015 / 00:35

What door would I choose? It depends. If I’m in a hurry, really late for a meeting, I’ll pick the door closest to my line of sight – I won’t even see the sign as I rush through the opening. If I’m sleep deprived, worn out or had a very stressful day – I may not notice the sign either, or if I do, I might choose ‘Average’; or I might choose ‘Beautiful’, empowering myself to turn my day around. And if I’m having a good day, feeling confident and happy then I’ll automatically walk through that ‘Beautiful’ door. It’s all about how I feel, what I’m thinking about – not how I look – at that moment. Yes,I do agree that the beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. True beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It’s the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows and the beauty of a woman only grows with passing years. On the Overall, the “Beautiful Door” appeals to me because I truly believe that our kindness, intelligence, thoughtfulness, and strength are all a part of what make us beautiful.

    25 April 2015 / 01:02

I would choose the ‘Beautiful’ door because I believe that being beautiful means that one is authentic and I believe that I am authentic. I am 21 years old and still trying to find my feet and discover myself in this busy world we live in. It is so difficult to live up to the so-called beauty standards of our global society. But it is so wonderful that Dove encourages individuals of all ages, that beauty is what we choose for ourselves. I believe that I am authentic. Being authentic, and being true to myself brings me so much happiness and happiness is beauty. I am beautifully authentic 🙂

Having gone through a very difficult time I always thought I wasn’t even average, I lost my self esteem but I got it back.
I now believe that I am beautiful and every woman should too.
We are all beautiful in our own way.
I have stretchmarks from being a mom, I have an imperfect body, I have bad skin at times. But that’s why I love makeup so much :p you can cover and correct what u don’t like and enhance what you do.
Being a mother has made me feel more empowered and beautiful, and my body is beautiful because of it.

    Every woman is beautiful.

I #ChooseBeautiful not because of my appearance but because of the people and things around me. Firstly my nieces baking with them because the younger on always say ” you know aunty you never shout, mom shouts all the time” that makes me beam with delight. Also pictures of my dad and I people always say im the splitting image of him and because he passed on that makes me feel beautiful. Cooking good food and anyone enjoying it. Finally painting my nails and eating red velvet cake and a cup of english breakfast tea.

The above make me very happy which inturn make me beautiful

Wow, a real tearjerker the video was! I would always pull my daughter towards the beautiful door because that is how I see her, a beauty inside and out! Myself? I can walk through the Beautiful door, because at my age you realise what true beauty is about : being compassionate, being so grateful for beautiful children and grandchildren, health, a home, a very dear doggy companion, there are so many more. Making other people feel special by offering help and giving an honest compliment makes me happy and really makes be feel beautiful on the inside. Also being kind to animals and nature is such a pleasure and being able to share this with others.
I think we can all feel like winners because we all have our own idea of what beauty means to us!
Thanks for a really BEAUTIFUL blog post!

A year ago I would have definitely walked through the average or even below average door if that even existed. The reason for this would mainly be my lack of confidence and believing that I was not worthy. I have since meditated on the reasons for these feelings I had toward myself and came to a few shocking realizations. I realized that during my childhood my parents enforced a very negative connotation to confidence. The confident girls were referred to as “cocky” and “full of themselves” and that their confidence was a way to manipulate the bad boys into liking them. Loving yourself and being confident in your body was thus something that I have rejected from a very young age.

I have only realised this root of my lack of self esteem at the end of last year and now it is a daily struggle for me to choose to be confident. I literally need to remind myself daily to CHOOSE ME. I am good enough. I am pretty enough. I am worthy enough. Not only because God has made me beautiful and in His image, but also because I am ME.

Today I would choose the beautiful door because I now realise that beauty is so much more than the outward looks of a person. That I don’t have to look like a Victoria Secret model to be beautiful. That what truly makes me beautiful is my sense of humor, that I enjoy taking care of those who cannot care for themselves, that I can find strength in moments of hardship and that I can be a strong and confident woman because of who I am as a whole.

I would choose the ‘Beautiful’ door because life is too short to just be average; why should I settle for average when I can wake up to freshly brewed coffee in bed every morning; take a stroll through the garden and pluck some Spring blossoms; be wrapped around my sons arms and get smothered with kisses, go to the Spa with my mum, have picnics on the beach while watching the sunset with my better half. I want to live my life to the fullest and make beautiful memories each day and I can’t do that if I settle for average 🙂

i would choose the avarage door! i can always change it to look beautiful im a way i like, we dont know what the doors hold, choosing the beautiful door, you will be dissapointed if you do not find it to hold what you want, the average door on the other hand gives no expectations, and like i said i can go make it beautiful! my definition of beautiful that is!

  119. Leandra
    28 April 2015 / 11:01

I entered on twitter! Sometimes we women does not always feel beautiful on particular days, but there is always that someone or something that makes us feel beautiful. For me it is definitely my kids. Seeing how they have grown over the years into wonderful little people with their own personalities really make my heart grow bigger in my chest. I am sooo blessed to have them in my life. They teach me wonderful life lessons on a daily basis, like laughing more, and playing like a kid and to be thankful and humble.
I choose to be beautiful because we all are made beautiful and all of us have something good inside us that makes us beautiful from the inside!

I would choose beautiful , because I know who I am and I am entirely comfortable in my own skin . And mostly because I would like to teach my daughter from a young age that confidence is something every woman needs . Confidence opens so many doors , it breeds independent women , who know what they are worth and do not settle for anything less than that .

As much as I would love to pretend watching the video made me change how I see myself…I just can’t and would walk through the average door. My husband just told me 2 nights ago: You’re so beautiful my wife!

I pulled a face…and he said: Can’t you just accept that and see you how I see you *enter the tears*?

I can tell you 101 things wrong with me… but I’m a good person, I have a good heart. I will give you the shirt off my back, the last money in my bank account (i have done this so many times)….but I was raised in a home where I was never told I was pretty. My cousin was pretty, my baby sister was pretty… I was the clever one. That was my identity…. never the pretty one.

My my kids and my husband….they tell me everyday….and to them, I know I am beautiful, it’s just not what I see in the mirror!

Flip….I can’t see what I’m typing anymore through the tears! lol. Oi….

I hate this blog Luzanne….I usually picture rainbows and unicorns…lol…this introspection…enough…you hear me?? he he. Just kidding…great post, great campaign!

Average…up and till two weeks ago I would have said Beautiful…that was until entering a Victoria Secret question where the asked what do you love most about your body and it took me like 20 min to answer and I just finally gave a random answer which resulted in the following: The thing I love most about my body is my collar bones…I know…akward right?

I have been debating what photo to choose and In the end I chose one that was taken 4years ago when my little one was only 6weeks old (yes look at how much hair she had at 6weeks) I had basically no make up on and yet I think it is one of the most gorgeous pictures with me in it ever, I just felt gorgeous and I still do, the love I feel in my heart is on my face and that makes me beautiful! i am definitely walking through the beautiful door …why….because beauty is inside. its in my soul and in my heart. beautiful to me means loving who u are and embracing ur values, traditions and culture

  128. 30 April 2015 / 13:55

#ChooseBeautiful -Hey… I would choose the Beautiful door, the reason for that is that my daughter Cherry Blossoms thinks I’m the most beautiful person in the world, her comments like “I wanna be pretty like you when I grow up Mommy” or “She is not a beautiful as Mommy” or “Mommy is pretty like a movie star” those are only a few. She would want her hair like mine, wants to be dressed like me and when I’m in the mirror applying make-up she is right there next to me. The innocence in her eyes when she looks at me thinking her ‘Mommy is perfect’ makes me want to be a better person everyday. I try to teach her everyday that beauty comes from within and we all are beautiful in our own unique way.Outer beauty means nothing if you are ugly inside 🙂

  129. 30 April 2015 / 13:59

If you asked me this a year ago I would probably have chosen the Average door, but today I will choose the Beautiful door. The past year I’ve gotten more involved online participating in communities for women (blogs and otherwise) and I’ve grown so much a a person. I’ve learn that all you need to be beautiful to feel beautiful. So just by putting on my bright lipstick and walking with my head up I feel beautful

  130. 30 April 2015 / 14:07

If Dove had run this campaign 8 months ago I would have not even been able to imagine walking through the “Average” door. Not only was I struggling to come to terms with how much my body had changed after my pregnancy, I was also struggling to cope with the new role I had been put into. I missed my independence, and the responsibility of being a mom was causing me so much anxiety that I became a totally different person. But when my little girl got ill and was hospitalised for the 3rd time in her short little life, something in my head snapped into place. She didn’t care about anything else, other than having her mommy there holding her. To have that beautiful little face smile at me even though I knew she was feeling really ill showed me that true love sees nothing but the heart and soul.
I am now 4 months away from the arrival of my second little girl, and I can say that although I am not thrilled about what my body is shaping into, I am very thrilled that soon I will have another beautiful little face smile at me.
Its hard to describe, but somehow the pure innocence of one’s child’s laughter and happiness makes the heart radiate warmth. A warmth that cannot help but spill over into every single sphere of your life. A warmth that is reflected on your face and in your eyes – In your actions and in your words.
I choose the “Beautiful” door – and I hope that one day my girls will do the same.

    I’d choose the ‘Beautiful’ door.

Throughout primary school and high school years I was severely bullied, received hate mail letter and more, simply because how I looked. Over the years, I learnt to identify what I found beautiful in me and instead I chose to embrace that.

So although I may not have the ‘model looks’, or be societies standard of ‘pretty’, I know that I’m the most beautiful ‘me’ that no one else can be <3

I hope that all women can find their inner beauty, and simply be beautifully themselves.. something that no one else can be. <3 #ChooseBeautiful

Perhaps like smiling even when you aren’t happy stimulates happy hormones, I believe that if you choose the #IChooseBeautiful door, even on the days you feel least beautiful, will create the belief that you are in fact very beautiful.

I absolutely loved this blog post of yours Luzanne, and for me it really hits home!!
I have so much to say on this topic and could write a length story on this, but to try and sum it up and whole heartedly, I would walk through the Beautiful door!

For years I had no confidence, felt flat, ugly, and I guess worse than average, but my personality and who I am is so out there, loud, confident and strong. I felt a complete disconnect between my looks and who I knew was inside. It dawned on me that I would feel this complete disconnect for the rest of my life and ultimately lack complete self confidence forever if I did not decide to do something about it.

Again after time and my thoughts, I realized no words, no person, no thing, no saying, nothing was ever going to change me or help me, but myself. I was going to have to make the changes, I had to be the rock, the principle, the leader to my mind and body. It has been a tough journey but one I will never regret and will always look back on. I’ve worked so hard to feel the way I do now, my mind and body are finally in harmony and my spirit is as it should be. Perhaps this is all a bit deep, but this topic really does make me think, feel and reflect.

I am grateful for how far I’ve come and how much i’ve developed mentally. I can confidently say I would walk through the beautiful door.

Thank you for this amazing and inspiring post. You made me realize and appreciate the beauty of the journey I’ve been on and am still traveling.

P.S. Sorry for the late entry xxx

entered via twitter @cathybadcar. What makes me happy………….being a proud independent self sufficient woman who can handle almost anything (sometimes I even surprise myself). Being a single Mom has taught me that no matter what tragic circumstances life throws at you, you just need to pick yourself up, put on your big girl panties and get on with life.

I would choose the average door because there’s usually more to things than the way they look. The ‘average’ door may look ‘average’ but what lies inside may very well surprise you. Plus I’m a bit of a risk taker and I like being different so I would go with the less obvious choice…good things come sometimes when you least expect them
