During the past few months I’ve seen a couple of these ‘Currently’ blog posts pop up on some of my favourite blogs. I like the idea of them, they’re a great way to summarise what’s currently going on in your life. New product discoveries, current favourite TV show, something you’ve purchased recently…things like that. It’s not really a ‘favourites’ blog post, because some of the headings are ‘Current Purchase’ (which might be a product that turned out to be a disappointment) and ‘Current Confession’. A blog post like this gives me the opportunity to show you what I’ve been loving lately, not just beauty-related things but lifestyle goodies as well. Feel free to play along in the comment section below and let me know what you’ve been enjoying lately.
I celebrated my birthday on the 8th AND on the 25th of February Neal and I will celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary. I have no idea what I’m going to get him as an anniversary gift (I’ve left it a little bit late, haven’t I?) – I might get him new mountain bike riding shoes or gloves. Gosh, he is so difficult to buy for because whenever I ask what he wants for his birthday / Christmas / anniversary, it’s always: “Well…I don’t know…” We actually prefer doing something together, rather than just buying a gift, so I might book us both in for a spa day as well…
CURRENT PRODUCT FIND:
I was sent a Skinny Brew 28-day Teatox loose team mix towards the end of last year and didn’t use it right away as I wanted to keep it until after the festive season. I tend to let loose whenever we go on holiday, and so I knew that I would probably want to do some type of detox in January. I’ve done a 5-day juice detox in the past (which was very challenging) and thought something like Skinny Brew would be perfect, since it’s not a strict detox programme. It’s basically a 100% natural tea that contains ingredients such as chamomile flowers, green tea, hibiscus flowers, juniper berries, licorice root, peppermint leaves, psyllium seeds, and cinnamon to not only cleanse the body but also give you a natural boost.
My 28-day can is pretty much empty, and although I didn’t notice a huge difference in terms of weight loss, I did notice feeling less bloated and less lethargic. Skinny Brew Teatox is green tea based (not my favourite tea to drink), so most days I added a little bit of honey and a squeeze of lemon to add a bit of zing and sweetness. I’ve also been drinking it as a cold iced tea (is it just me or has this been the hottest Summer we’ve had in a long time?) – just brew it the night before, and chill in the fridge. If you’re interested, you can buy yours in the Skinny Brew online store.
I have been loving my MAMBI Happy Planner lately – planning my week ahead on a Sunday afternoon has become something I look forward to each week. I decorate each week with a different style of planner stickers and washi tape, and add all my daily To-Do’s / appointments / beauty events & launches / birthdays etc. It makes me feel like I’m on top of things a lot more, and my mind is less ‘fuzzy’ (if one could call it that) because I don’t have to keep remembering all the things I still have to do. Which means I can concentrate on my blog posts, plus there’s nothing quite like the sense of accomplishment I feel when I tick off all those To-Do’s at the end of each day. I purchased my Happy Planner on sale here, and had it delivered via Aramex Global Shopper.
Me And My Big Ideas is launching their new Happy Planner designs for 2016-2017 in March, and I already have shark eyes for the peony design. I like that their planners run from July to December the next year (18 months), plus they are a lot more affordable than Erin Condren planners. Oh, and their pages are removable too, very user-friendly (especially since I’m a lefty).
I am loving the ‘Fight Song’ from Rachel Platten – it gives me goosebumps everytime I listen to it. I heard it on the radio a few months ago and I was like: “YEAH! This is my life right now!” Whenever I’m having a really crappy day, or I’m feeling anxious or down-in-the-dumps, I blast the ‘Fight Song’ on my iPod and it instantly picks me up. Plus…after watching the music video, I have total #hairenvy. Rachel’s hair is so messy, so beachy, so perfect.
Ok, so strictly speaking I haven’t started reading this book yet. I’ve been a bit too busy to take a couple of hours to myself and read, but I will start reading ‘The Grownup’ by Gillian Flynn very soon. I love her books, her story lines are always interesting & unique, and there is always a surprising twist at the end. I’ve read all 3 of her other books: Gone Girl, Sharp Objects, and Dark Places. I also watched Gone Girl and Dark Places on the big screen (but I preferred the books). Gone Girl is one of my all-time favourite books, and I honestly think that every misbehaving man deserves to have an ‘Amazing Amy’ in his life.
Anyway, ‘The Grownup’ is a short book (only 79 pages) and from what I can remember it’s somewhat of a ghost story. Have you read the book? What did you think of it? No spoilers, please!
I recently purchased 2 skincare products from The Body Shop. I’ve been dying to try the new Oils Of Life Intensely Revitalising Gel Cream, and the Drops Of Youth Eye Concentrate. I’ve used both products only a handful of times so far, but I’ll give you my initial first impressions of each below.
Oils Of Life Intensely Revitalising Gel Cream (R220,00) – I really like this, I was a little worried that it might leave my skin feeling sticky (since it is a gel cream) but I’m happy to report it feels like a lightweight moisturiser with no greasy / sticky finish. It contains black cumin seed oil, camellia seed oil, and rosehip seed oil to revitalise and repair the skin. The gel cream formula feels very refreshing, and also contains illuminating micro-pearls to brighten up the skin, leaving it looking fresh and dewy. There is another variant called the ‘Oils Of Life Intensely Revitalising Cream’ which is more suitable for mature or dry skin, but my combo skin loves the lightweight gel cream formula.
Drops Of Youth Eye Concentrate (R170,00) – I have mixed feelings about this one, mainly because I was under the impression that this is an eye cream. Turns out I should have read the box before I purchased it – it’s actually an eye serum, which means it’s best if you apply an eye cream on top of it as well. Here’s what I like about it: The rollerball gives both a massaging and refreshing cooling effect to the eye area, which means it’s great for morning-zombie-eyes. The actual eye serum absorbs almost instantly, and doesn’t leave any sticky or greasy feeling behind. In fact, my skin actually feels slightly firmer (but not tight) and smoother. It contains Edelweiss plant stem cells, known for their skin renewal properties. I’m not too keen on adding another step to my skincare routine, so I might be a rebel and use this as my morning eye serum (with no eye cream on top) and then use my trusty Kiehl’s Avocado Creamy Eye Treatment at night.
CURRENT TV SHOW:
I am LOVING ‘The Missing’ at the moment! I started watching it by chance a few weeks ago when I scrolled through the ‘Catch Up’ section on DSTV. The storyline is quite disturbing, but very interesting…and I find myself waiting in anticipation for the next episode each week. I think we’re almost at the final episode, and I must admit, I’ll be sad when it ends. I’ve heard there are talks of a second season, so I’m definitely looking forward to that! I don’t want to give too much info on what the show is about, in case some of you want to start watching it too.
Here’s a short description of the storyline: Tony Hughes is the main character in the series, he’s the father of young Oliver who went missing in the Summer of 2006. Tony, his wife (Emily) and 5 year old Oliver travelled from England to northern France on holiday during the FIFA World Cup. While on their way to their holiday destination, something happens and Oliver goes missing. Eight years later, Oliver has not yet been found, and the police have closed the investigation. The search for his son consumed Tony’s life, and as a result the couple divorced. Although Tony never stopped looking for his son, something happens in 2014, which makes Tony get back on track. With the help of retired French detective, who led the original investigation, Tony starts to put the pieces together. Will Oliver ever be found? I have no idea…
I don’t think I need to explain why I want the Too Faced Peanut Butter & Jelly eyeshadow palette, right? Take a look at this makeup tutorial video to see this baby in action – I love the makeup look Nicol Concilio came up with. The palette was apparently inspired by the much-loved ‘Peanut Butter’ eyeshadow from the Semi-Sweet Chocolate Bar Palette. The PB&J palette contains of 9 gorgeous matte and shimmer shades featuring antioxidant-rich cocoa powder with a creamy peanut butter twist (but it doesn’t contain any actual peanuts). Eeeeeeep! I really want to give this palette a loving home.

Please let me know in the comments section below whether this is something that you would like to see more of here on the blog. I’m thinking about adding some of my own ‘Current’ headings to future blog posts i.e. ‘Current Disappointment’ (a product that I regret buying), and ‘Current Yummy’ (a food item that I’ve been loving lately) etc.
P.S. Have you entered my Lancôme La Vie Est Belle L’Absolu de Parfum giveaway? Hhhmmmmm…?
