Beauty Besties 2013 – Skincare

Happy New Year, everyone!  I hope you guys had a lovely festive season!  I am back from my short break and ready to hit the ground running – I have loads of giveaways coming up, so I’m super excited!  I’ve been so busy the last couple of days – the period between Christmas and New Year literally flew by for me.  I can’t believe we’re in 2014 already! Phew!

So to kick off 2014, I thought I would reflect on the year that has been (in terms of beauty products).  As you guys know I usually do my monthly favourites at the end of every month.  Since this is my first year of blogging (my baby blog isn’t even a year old yet), I decided to NOT do a ‘December Favourites’ blog post because 1. I didn’t try out a heck of a lot of new products this past month (busy month doing Christmas shopping and visiting family & friends), and 2. I initially wanted to do my ‘Beauty Besties’ blog posts at the end of December 2013 but well…time just ran away from me.

So in the next couple of blog posts I will be showing you my most favourite beauty products from the year of 2013.  A few of these products you have probably seen before in previous monthly favourites blog posts, and some are either new favourites or products that I think deserve a mention.  These are my best of the best top picks for the year and let me tell you:  It was quite the struggle…narrowing down a looooong list of favourites to my top 5, is not easy.  The only categories I couldn’t narrow it down to only 5 products were makeup and nail products.

Just a quick disclaimer:  If you know that I like a certain product (or I’ve mentioned a product as a favourite before) and I don’t mention it in these ‘Beauty Besties’ blog posts, it doesn’t mean that it’s not good or that I don’t like it anymore, it’s just that I really tried to narrow it down for you guys.

Estée Lauder Resilience Lift Sculpting & Firming Eye Cream – this eye cream has been a firm favourite of mine for a good couple of months now.  I mentioned this eye cream in my Estée Lauder haul blog post here.  It contains illuminating pigments, which brightens and smoothens the under eye area.  Applying under eye concealer is a breeze because the texture of the eye cream is so rich and creamy.  Retails for R 615,00 at Edgars, Red Square and Estée Lauder SA Online.

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant – I can’t get enough of this stuff!  I mentioned this amazing exfoliating powder in this blog post here, and I wasn’t exaggerating.  Magic powder in a bottle, without a doubt!  This is going on my birthday wish list for sure, I hope the Birthday Fairy reads my blog posts…  The full-size retails for R 700,00 – R 800,00 at selected beauty salons / clinics.

Balm Balm Little Miracle Rosehip Serum Facial Oil – this little bottle was mentioned in a couple of blog posts.  Whenever someone mentions Balm Balm products (on Twitter or Facebook or Instagram), I always suggest this product to them.  For more information on why I love this product, check out this blog post here.  I’ll be doing a giveaway for my blog birthday and this will definitely be one of the prizes!  Retails for R 285,00 at Luhla or Rubybox.

Indeed Labs Hydraluron Moisture Booster – this tube has changed my skin’s life.  Yes, my skin does have a life of its own (it acts like a teenager the one day, and then like a normal, law-abiding citizen the next).  I mentioned this serum in my ‘October 2013 Favourites’ blog post and have been using it quite religiously ever since I bought it.  I love it so much, I purchased another product from Indeed Labs a couple of weeks ago and I have to say:  I’m impressed!  More on this mystery product a bit later…  Retails for R 300,00 at selected Clicks stores.

Uriage Thermal Water – I haven’t mentioned this on the blog before because I only started using it in December.  Now, I usually test products for a good couple of weeks before I do product reviews (let alone mention them in monthly favourites), but this product impressed me so much, I knew it deserved a spot in my yearly favourites.  It’s quite hot here in South Africa at the moment, we’ve had a couple of rainy days and then a couple of scorchers too.  This thermal water has really made the hot & humid days more pleasant.  Whenever I feel like the heat is getting to me, I spray this all over my face (and sometimes on my feet too – there’s nothing worse than hot feet) and I’m instantly cooled down and refreshed.  Plus it can be sprayed all over a full face of makeup (it won’t mess with your makeup, promise)!  I think I’ll do a review on this facial spritzer soon, but in the meantime…trust me:  It’s bomb digs. Go get yourself one of these spritzer cans, you won’t be disappointed.  Retails for R 70,00 (50ml) and R 170,00 (150ml) at selected Clicks stores.

You probably noticed I didn’t list a cleanser as a top favourite – that’s because I haven’t found my ‘Holy Grail’ cleanser as yet.  I received samples of the Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel (thanks, Crystal Clear Aesthetic Skincare Clinic) and Restylane Facial Cleanser (thank you, Anjana) but it’s too soon to comment on whether they’re amazing enough to be listed as favourites.

Next up in my ‘Beauty Besties 2013’ will be my top 5 body care products.  Do you guys enjoy seeing these yearly favourites blog posts?

I have used the Hydraluron and Dermalogica Microfoliant and I love both so much, I am on my 2nd tube of the moisture booster.

My Hydraluron tube is about halfway now, so I’ll have to stock up soon. And the Microfoliant is also on it’s way out, so I’ll have to go get the full size.

You’ve just made my day with your kind words and comments, Kelly – thank you. 🙂

I hear you talk about Balm Balm so much, I bet it’s amazing!! In the EL kit I purchased, there was an eye cream….I can’t remember which one, but I ended up giving it to my mom since I use Clinique’s eye cream. Oh geez, maybe I shouldn’t have! Haha!!
