BABOR Waterkloof Beauty Spa – A Place To Relax & Rejuvenate

BABOR Waterkloof Spa

Sometimes I wake up feeling well rested, and with skin that looks surprisingly good (for a 32-year-old).  And other times I wake up and wish I could hit the snooze button for 10 more minutes (or 1 more hour) before I need to drag myself out of bed and get my day going.  On those days when I don’t get to hit the snooze button, I usually wake up with a puffy, exhausted skin.  Fortunately I’ve discovered a spa that offers everything from a classic facial to a non-surgical face lifting facial, a spa that will fix those skin troubles in a flash!

For me, a really good facial is like a form of beauty sleep.  Besides the obvious relaxation benefits, it improves skin’s tone, texture, and elasticity.  And that’s really all I want in life – great skin, and a sense of calm.

BABOR Waterkloof Beauty Spa

Nestled in the heart of Waterkloof (Pretoria) lies a little piece of heaven – a place where one can go to relax and rejuvenate.  BABOR Waterkloof Beauty Spa invited me to experience their Classic Facial last week, and I must admit I was very much looking forward to the experience since it has been quite some time since I last had a facial.  Many sleepless nights, and stress have taken a toll on my skin.  I’ve been experiencing breakouts, congestion and just overall dull skin these past few weeks (or months) and so this came at the perfect time.

Let me give you a bit of background on BABOR:  Founded by renowned biochemist Dr. Michael Babor in 1956, this cruelty-free company has been focused on innovation and has established itself as a true pioneer in the field of professional skincare.  Interdisciplinary teams of scientists and collaborations with renowned universities, other leading research institutes, as well as massage specialists, ensure that BABOR products and treatments achieve the highest level of efficacy and performance.  Many of the select active- and other ingredients are from the natural world of plants, organically grown, and are obtained from fair-trade sources.

I woke up bright and early last week Wednesday (my appointment was scheduled for 9h30) and started getting ready for the day.  Many of you might think I went to my appointment with a bare face – what’s the point of applying makeup if you know it’s going to be removed within an hour, right?  Well, when I visit a spa for the first time I ALWAYS go wearing a full face of makeup because I like to put the spa (and beauty therapist / facialist) to the ultimate test.  I want to see if every last smidgeon of makeup is removed during the facial, because in a way you know you are getting your money’s worth.  Attention to detail is very important to me, especially when it comes to something like this.  I’ve left quite a number of beauty spas in the past looking like a raccoon, because the therapist just didn’t care enough to make sure she removed all traces of makeup.  It’s frustrating to say the least, especially when you just spent R400,00 to R600,00 on an entry-level facial.

BABOR Waterkloof Spa

When I arrived at BABOR Waterkloof Beauty Spa, I was greeted by such friendly and enthusiastic ladies.  The décor of the spa is absolutely breathtaking – it’s modern, sophisticated and features trendy copper accents.  So chic.  The look and feel of the white interior instantly relaxes you, and gorgeous orchids brighten up certain areas of the spa.  The space itself is so pristine and so crisp, it made me want to go home and organise my beauty room.

Following the introduction to my therapist (Hi, Stephina!), we made our way to the therapy room.  The ambience of the room was so relaxing, and after changing into something a bit more comfortable, the facial started.  For 60 minutes, I lay on my back while my skin was cleansed, compressed, exfoliated, massaged, hydrated (the Algae Active Fluid Ampoule feels amazing on the skin) and treated with a luxurious mask.  During the facial (while my mask was drying) I also received the most amazing leg, foot and scalp massage.  The whole process introduced me to some of BABOR’s best skincare products, my personal favourites are the Cleansing CP HY-ÖL (biphase deep-action cleanser both water and oil), Algae Active Fluid Ampoule (a moisturising and detoxifying fluid which fights aging, and helps mild congestion) and Detoxifying Mineral Clay Mask (to flush out impurities in the skin).  I could have easily drifted off to sleep during my visit, fortunately I didn’t, as I’m sure I would have woken up with drool dripping down my face.

I got up feeling like I had just woken up from a long, rejuvenating nap.  I noticed that my face looked plump and glowy (and there wasn’t a trace of makeup in sight).  Research has shown that increased blood flow (due to massaging of the face) relaxes the muscles underneath the skin and reduces the tension that can lead to wrinkles.  Basically the Classic Facial from BABOR might as well be called the most heavenly thing ever imaginable.

BABOR Advent Calendar

After my facial I chatted with the Spa Manager, Sibongiseni, and she showed me something truly magical…  Did you know BABOR does an Advent Calendar once a year around Christmas time?  Eeeeep!  So exciting!  The calendar contains a variety of their bestselling Ampoules, one for each night leading up to Christmas to ensure you have fresh, glowy and fabulous skin come Christmas Day.  For more information on these lovely Ampoules, read my blog post here.

I will definitely be returning to BABOR Waterkloof Beauty Spa soon, and I think I will book a Deluxe Pedicure (goodness know, my feet need it) and a Stone Massage.  I am happy to report, they use some of my favourite brands of nail polish – Morgan Taylor and Gelish.

BABOR Beauty Spa

The spa is open until 18h30 on weekdays, so you can always check in for a quick Swedish Massage after a particularly stressful day.  Gift vouchers are also available, so it’s definitely something to keep in mind for the festive season ahead.

If you are based in Pretoria or Centurion, then I highly recommend you pop in to the spa for a luxurious treatment.  They offer EVERY treatment you can think of:  Manicures, pedicures, waxes, brow / lash tinting, massages, facials and even a couple of treatments for men as well.  For a full list of treatments offered, click here.  Nothing beats a good spa session, and at BABOR Waterkloof Beauty Spa you get a five-star experience from beginning to end.

Me too!! I told Sibongiseni it’s such a great idea, especially since beauty advent calendars are not that easy to get hold of in South Africa.

I recently had a Babor facial at KwaMaritane and I am really impressed with the product! I also bought the advent calendar and started using the ampules. I can recommend it.
