August 2014 Favourites

August 2014 Favourites

I don’t know about you, but I feel like this year is moving way too fast for my liking.  We have 8 weeks till Halloween and 15 weeks till Christmas – FIFTEEN WEEKS, people!  Under normal circumstances I would have already had most of my Christmas shopping done by today (yes, I am one of ‘those’ people) but this year, time and I are just not getting along very well.

I need to start making lists of all the things I want to accomplish before the end of the year and then I need to get my butt into gear and actually start working on them!  I’m actually feeling quite frazzled as I’m sitting here writing this blog post because there is still so much to do before the year is over.

Lists…I need to make lists.

Ok, so before I completely freak myself out, let’s talk about monthly favourites.  During the month of August, I was part of the Kiehl’s #ChangeYourSkin campaign (thank you for choosing me as one of your fab five, Dimi).  And it just so happens, 1 of the 2 products I was testing out turned out to be definite winner in my book.

Kiehl's Powerful Strength Line Reducing Concentrate-1

The Kiehl’s Dermatologist Solutions Powerful Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate really, really impressed me, and I’m not just saying that.  I am not being paid to say anything nice about the campaign, nor am I receiving payment for mentioning the Powerful Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate in this blog post.  I really, truly enjoyed using it because the results were quick and noticeable.

I experience a wonderful warming sensation when I apply the Dermatologist Solutions Powerful Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate and leaves my skin feeling soft and supple.  What I really loved about it, though, is that it cleared up most of the congestion areas on my face.  The brightening effect due to the high concentration of Vitamin C in the product has also been very noticeable – not only have I seen a difference, but family members and even random strangers have commented on how healthy and glowing my skin looks.  Vitamin C is also great for lightening age spots and acne scars on the surface of the skin and I have seen a remarkable difference in the speed of the healing process of the blemishes.  My skin feels super smooth to the touch, looks glowy and overall just feels healthy and comfortable.  The Dermatologist Solutions Powerful Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate retails for R 645,00 at Kiehl’s outlets in selected Edgars stores.

Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede

My very first Jo Malone fragrance, and I must say, I am hooked!  I mentioned the Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede fragrance in my ‘Beauty & Lifestyle Haul’ YouTube video a couple of weeks ago, when I bought it whilst on holiday in Cape Town.  The fact that the word ‘peony’ features in the name of this wonderful fragrance makes me giddy with delight!  Peony notes give it a light & subtle, yet sweet scent – while the crisp red apple notes give it a juicy twist.  Jo Malone then takes it one step further by adding a base note of suede, to give it a slightly musky flare.  I know it sounds confusing, but do yourself a favour:  Go to your nearest Jo Malone store & give this fragrance a whiff, it will be love at first sniff – I guarantee it!  Peony & Blush Suede is a pricey little bottle & retails for R 1250,00 (100ml).

Vaseline Spray & Go Cocoa Radiant

My next favourite is something that is unfortunately not available in South Africa at the moment, although I am hoping it arrives VERY soon.  I can only imagine the devastation when I finish this product, which will be soon since I have used the heck out of it lately.  The Vaseline Spray & Go in Cocoa Radiant is the ultimate body moisturiser – it comes in spray-form which makes it light and easy to use.  The nozzle dispenses a light spray of milky liquid onto the skin that absorbs super quick and leaves my skin with a delicious creamy cocoa butter scent.  The can features a 360 degree spray application, which means you can spray up or down, it’s all good!  Thanks to Vaseline Spray & Go, I can now moisturise my back without worrying about missing a dry spot (I don’t know about you, but I am definitely not a contortionist).  This product retails for £5 or $6 (about R 65,00) – I bought mine on the Boots website and my friend (and fellow blogger) Chantelle had a friend bring over to South Africa for us.  You can check out our hilarious YouTube haul video here.

LUSH Mask Of Magnaminty

The LUSH Mask of Magnaminty has been a life-saver this past month!  You can read my full review on the mask in this blog post – but the short of it is:  It’s a refreshingly minty face mask that really goes to work to pull the dirt from your pores, whilst exfoliating surface skin cells.  Not only do I use this as a full face mask, but I also use it as a spot treatment – and boy, does it target pesky little blemishes!  My skin is left looking glowy, feeling softer and smoother, with the added benefit of my pores looking smaller.  Mask Of Magnaminty retails for R 115,00 (125g) or R 215,00 (315g) and is available in-store, as well as online in the LUSH South Africa online store (but it is out of stock online at the moment – boo!).

Milani Baked Blush Delizioso Pink

Next up we have another product that is unfortunately not available in South Africa – don’t shoot!  But to be honest, after my ‘Online Shopping 101’ blog posts, you should be feeling quite confident to place an international online shopping order, so head over to eBay and buy this one (plus you only pay $2 shipping for each additional item you buy from BeautyJoint on eBay).

The Milani Baked Blush in Delizioso Pink is the perfect cool-toned matte bubblegum pink blush – and I love it even more than my MAC Pink Swoon blush.  I don’t own a lot of cool-toned pink blushes because I feel warmer tones suit my skin tone better but even though this blush has quite a cool undertone, it still gives my cheeks a wonderful pink pop that complements my skin in every way.  These baked blushes from Milani are insanely pigmented, the texture is incredibly soft and finely milled, plus Delizioso Pink wears for a good 6 to 8 hours on the cheeks before starting to fade.  I use a light hand & my Sigma F15 brush to apply Delizioso Pink, this ensures a soft & blended pop of colour on my chubby little cheeks!  Milani Delizioso Pink retails for around R 95,00 ($8,49) in the US.

Those are all my favourites for the month of August 2014 – if you have any products that you have been really loving lately, let me know in the comments section below, I’d love to check them out!

I have been invited to attend the launch of Clarisonic…YES, you heard me…Clarisonic!  I’ll be attending the launch tomorrow evening and I am SO excited to share all the details with you guys!  Clarisonic in South Africa…who would have thought…  Better start saving ladies, you’re going to want to buy one as soon as they hit the shelves!

Wow, what a great post. I am in love with idea of Jo Malone, but it is so expensive and I have not been lucky enough to get my hands on it quite yet, but this post is making me want it even more! ahh! 🙂 Love your blog, it is so cute and I love your writing style too! I am now following you! Please come visit me too at Thanks for letting me read!

Yep, it’s unfortunately VERY pricey…but also VERY worth it. Once you own a Jo Malone fragrance, you’re going to want to own all of them. I’m already saving for another one when we go down to Cape Town again in November – eeeep! 😉

Thank you so much for your sweet words regarding my blog, Missy – you just totally brought a smile to my face!

Going to check out your blog right now!

I would LOVE to try that Kiehl’s Powerful Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate, but I’m just worried with all the Vitamin C etc in it, would it be ok for sensitive skins? I have spent so much cash on products (and don’t get me wrong, I have no issue spending if it’s going to be a really good product!) but my skin reacts to them and comes out in a red, dry rash…

    • 16 September 2014 / 20:24

I am going to find out for you from Kiehl’s themselves and will post an answer to your question here. I don’t want to cause you any discomfort if you do purchase it and it sensitizes your skin even more. Plus I would hate to cost you any more money as well.

Sit tight, I’ll have an answer for you soon! 🙂

Yay for Clarisonic! I absolutely LOVE Jo Malone. I was spoilt with 2 bottles for my birthday last year and they are incredible. I love how you can mix and match the perfumes by layering them. So although pricey, if you have two, you can mix them to make a third perfume fragrance, so I see the value in that. Dying to get my hands on the Kiehl’s vitamin C serum as well. Great post!

Wowie!! Two bottles! I am planning on purchasing my second bottle when we’re in Cape Town again in November – but I will ask the sales assistant to help me pick a fragrance that will blend well with this one (but also smells amazing on its own).

      Thank you, Bianca! 🙂

    • 16 September 2014 / 20:40

Baie, baie dankie, Chane!
