A Note On Upcoming Giveaways

Pink Peonies Blog Giveaways

I went through the cupboards in my beauty room, this past weekend, in anticipation for a big Spring cleaning session and noticed that I have A LOT of unopened beauty products – makeup, skin care, hair care, nail polishes and body care goodies stashed away.  As I’ve mentioned before, I am very fortunate in the sense that brands often send me products for review but sometimes 1. I already have the products in my collection because I bought them before the brand / PR company sent them to me; 2. I am sent products that I know I won’t be able to use because it doesn’t match my skin tone, hair type etc.; 3. Sometimes brands / PR send me doubles of certain products; and 4. I unfortunately can’t feature ALL the products that I receive here on the blog.  That would probably mean I would have to blog on a daily basis, and that’s just not in the cards for me right now.

By the way, I use the term ‘beauty room’ very loosely…it’s actually just a spare bedroom that has my vanity (to apply my makeup), a blogging area (for photos) and a filming area (for my YouTube videos).  It sounds luxurious, but trust me, it’s just like any other ol’ room.

So, here’s the deal:  I’ll be doing A LOT of giveaways during the next few weeks, especially since I have the giveaway stash here at home, plus I’ve been contacted by a couple of brands to do giveaways for them too (they’ll send the prizes directly to the winners).  Some will be brand-specific giveaways and others will be hampers containing a mixture of beauty products.

Here’s where I need your help, so please feel free to leave a comment down below.  My question is:  Shall I create specific type hampers i.e. a hamper containing only hair care products, and another hamper containing only makeup products etc?  Or would you prefer a hamper that contains an array of beauty products i.e. makeup, nail polishes, body care, hair care etc?

And here’s another question:  Do you prefer social media giveaways i.e. I give away a hamper to only my Twitter followers OR do you like it when all my giveaways are all in one place on my blog?  I personally prefer hosting all my giveaways on the blog, because that means people are able to choose how they want to enter.  Maybe you only feel comfortable leaving a comment to enter a giveaway?  Or perhaps you don’t have Instagram or Twitter, and so you’d prefer a giveaway on the blog to have additional entry options?

At the end of the day hosting giveaways on the blog is my way of saying THANK YOU to my loyal readers (and ‘followers’, although I really dislike that term).  But, and this is a BIG BUT…I don’t want my blog to become known as the “giveaway blog” and that’s why I always try to take a break between giveaways.  It is far more important for me to know you return to my blog every day or every other day because you enjoy reading my reviews or because you think you can learn something from me.

I also always try to combine my giveaways with either a review or ‘Face Of The Day’ blog post, just to make it a bit more meaningful.  I’m not really a fan of just posting random giveaways saying “You could win this awesome prize, even though I have no idea whether it’s any good.”

I have quite a collection of goodies to give away during the next few weeks – let’s just call it Women’s Month giveaways, so please bear with me if you see new giveaway blog posts popping up at least twice a week.  To be quite honest, I get anxious when I see clutter around me (even when the clutter is stashed away in a cupboard, I still know it’s there) and so I’d like to sort most of the giveaways out during the next month or so.  So many products are waiting to go to loving homes, and I feel guilty for leaving them unused and unloved stashed away in my cupboard.

Please keep in mind that I won’t be able to choose the winners based on skin type, skin tone or hair type – so if you win a hamper that contains products you can’t use, maybe share the loot with your friends and family.

As with all my giveaways on the blog, I’ll be making use of the trusty Rafflecopter widget.  I use this widget because it keeps track of all the entries on all my social media platforms for me and also chooses a random winner on my behalf.  That means I have no control over who is picked as a winner, and I think it keeps it honest and ethical.  Also, remember to always tweet using the Rafflecopter widget (I usually allow for entrants to tweet every day to gain entries) otherwise it won’t register your Twitter entry.

Top Tip:  If you are not sure how to enter a giveaway using the Rafflecopter widget, then check out this blog post.  It’s a brilliant step-by-step guide on how to complete each entry.

I would like to make it very clear that I will NEVER include any used products in my giveaways – everything is always unused / sealed.

While we’re on the subject of giveaways – have you entered my Red Square #BeautyWinterWonders giveaway?  There’s a R 1000,00 gift voucher up for grabs!

And so I’ll end this blog post off by thanking you for supporting my blog these past 2,5 years.  It really is because of your comments, tweets, messages and emails that I am where I am today.

P.S.  Be sure to pop by the blog a bit later today, as I’ll have a brand new giveaway up for you.

  1. Jaclyn Hill 18 August 2015 / 09:21

Love the idea of a combination of goodies in one hamper. It is always fun to have a variety of new products to play with.
PS: Your blog is saved on my bookmark bar because I check your blog so often. Haha.

Just a word of thanks for having such a beautiful blog, your hard work is appreciated by all of us readers :)

  2. Lean Breytenbach 18 August 2015 / 09:35

I also love the idea of hampers with a different array of products. And I like that the giveaways are on your blog and that we can enter from here.

    LOVE your blog.

  3. Amalia 18 August 2015 / 09:35

I have to admit that I love getting a hamper with different products in, it’s so fun to play around with all the different products. Unless you have only one specific brand that has a few products that goes together. Like if you take dove for example, and you put their wash, deo and body lotion into one. But otherwise hampers with a variety is more appealing.

For your second question, I think doing it here, the way you have always done it is much easier for everyone. Like you pointed out that some don’t have twitter maybe, while others maybe don’t have Instagram. When doing it on the blog everyone gets a chance to enter regardless of the platform.

Happy blogging hun, no matter what the post, or giveaway, it’s ALWAYS super beautiful and amazing with you.

  4. Carolyn Augustus 18 August 2015 / 09:35

I think a combination of goodies will be nice as not all of us wear make up all the time, some of us don’t wear nail polish and so on. That way no matter what you do or do not like, there is something that will suit your fancy.

I personally think Rafflecopter is a great way of choosing winners thus the competitions are always fair.

Thanks for all the effort you put into every post.

  5. Anita Steenkamp 18 August 2015 / 09:36

I also love the idea of a combination of goodies (and it means that I can share the love if I win). I like the giveaways on the blog, I think when you do a giveaway just on twitter or facebook, instagram, people don’t always take the time to even go and have a look at the blog.
Also love Rafflecopter widget, then you know it is fair :-)
Ooh and I have entered the Red Square competition, awesome giveaway!
Thank you so much for an Awesome blog!

  6. Sophia 18 August 2015 / 09:37

    1. I would say a combination of goodies in a hamper :) 2. its better to have it on your blog :) and Rafflecopter is fair. I have been a huge fan of your blog for quite a while now.

  7. Ronnae Elliott 18 August 2015 / 09:38

I would prefer specific type hampers i.e. a hamper containing only hair care products, and another hamper containing only makeup products etc. I also prefer the competition to be on the blog Rafflecopter to gain extra entries using all social platforms. Thank-you for all the amazing reviews! :)

  8. ursula 18 August 2015 / 09:40

hmmm, firstly yay that you are so loved by brands!

Regarding the prizes and how they should be set up, I would say whatever is easiest for you, I feel any of your readers would be happy with whatever you decide to giveaway. I mean everyone is different so combination hampers might be a bit difficult to put together.

I’m happy to enter with a comment and with you raffle copter BUT I always enjoy a friendly challenge where we get to show a bit of our daily lives to you via photos etc.

    Keep UP the amazing work.

  9. Nicolene 18 August 2015 / 09:41

Love the idea of different goodies. It’s nice to play mix and match. Also love the way you afe running the competitions now.

Kerp up the great work! Xxx

  10. Lucinda Leila Singh 18 August 2015 / 09:42

The idea of a mixture of goodies in a hamper is a great one, its exciting! I like the idea of entering through your blog, so i can choose how i enter.
Recent follower and i really enjoy your work… keep up the awesome posts :) Lucy

  11. Missy 18 August 2015 / 09:48

Hahaha that makes two of us Jaclyn – You in my favourite too Luzanne.

Yep I love the combination goodie hamper it just makes it more exciting.

Please continue hosting the competitions on your blog as I don’t have twitter or instagram….

Mwah – Thanks for all posting such true meaningful posts its always exciting to read :-)

  12. tania 18 August 2015 / 09:49

I love any kind if giveaways. For me it feels like a present! And presents can be surprises. So a hamper filled with different products would be perfect.
I suggest you put your giveaways on your blog and we enter by leaving a comment – so much easier to manage yourself and for the entrants who do not have FB Twitter or Instagram they can also participate.
Using Rafflecopter just makes the process so much fair and equal. Luck of the draw!
Feeling excited now -can’t wait for the giveaways!

  13. Megan Breet 18 August 2015 / 09:49

array of beauty products sounds awesome. This giveaway really sounds fun.

  14. LiezelTee 18 August 2015 / 09:51

I think a mix of goodies is great! Why not test the waters with only twitter comp, insta comp? See how that works for you :)

  15. Stacey 18 August 2015 / 10:00

Definitely a mix of goodies, and entries from the blog are the best because it covers the social media sites, plus people get to browse the blog at the same time.

  16. Camilla (Jane Wonder) 18 August 2015 / 10:05

    Hi Lu,

I defs think it’s a good idea that you house the competition on your blog with various ways to enter. In saying that, I notice the names that crop up for every. single. giveaway. out there! It drives me absolutely crazy. Those people want one thing – FREE STUFF!

I think, where possible, reward your READERS! I always go check who comments on your blog when it’s NOT a competition post. I READ your blog posts, every single one of them, because the content is incredible – not because I can win something. Those are the people that should be rewarded.

Rant over :) Lots of love xxx

  17. Anina 18 August 2015 / 10:12

oe, dit klink wonderlik exciting! :-)
ek dink ook n mengsel van verskillende goedjies – iets wat jy nie noodwendig self sou koop nie – klink lekker.

  18. Kelebogile 18 August 2015 / 10:16

    – I think Array of Beauty Product hamper will be great as it will give each woman to enjoy a variety of beauty products and
    – Social Media give away wont be that great as not everyone has a twitter so I believe give away being on one place on your blog will be great.
Thank you for being so thoughtful!

  19. Cheron 18 August 2015 / 10:24

Definitely love the idea of an array of products! I also prefer the give-aways on your blog as I love reading what you have to say with it as well.

  20. Euneen 18 August 2015 / 10:40

JAAA!!! Dit voel asof iemand verjaar en ons moet ‘n partytjie hou of iets! Ek raak sommer opgewonde! xx

  21. ayesha 18 August 2015 / 10:56

I think a variety of products is a good idea. I also like entering on the blog because i dont have twitter.

I have this website bookmarked also.

    Thanks for the honest reviews.

  22. Annie 18 August 2015 / 10:56

You really have a heart of gold, Lu! Bless you. Personally, I prefer using twitter for your competitions. I think an array of products sounds like a good idea but with a focus on a certain type of beauty product eg. the hamper could consist of hair products mostly and you could throw in a few other beauty products.

  23. Melinda 18 August 2015 / 11:07

    Good morning

Lovely idea of “pass it forward”

Defenitely on the blog as not everyone has twitter.

PS… love your reviews and such a treat when it pops up in my e-mail.

  24. Jeanelle Smuts 18 August 2015 / 11:26

Your blog posts always makes a person feel all warm and fuzzy, like you’re a personal friend! Addicted to your blog! :)
    1) I like a combination of goodies in a giveaway! Allows me to try out more than one thing!
    2) I prefer that the giveaway competition happens on the blog. Makes it seem ‘central’.
Thank you once again for the amazing blog posts!

  25. Janet 18 August 2015 / 11:30

Hello :-) Thanks for this post, interesting comments. I think doing a giveaway on your blog where we enter by comment is easiest and anything in the giveaway is a treat I think but sometimes a hamper targeting a specific thing like hair or makeup is nice. Thank you!!

  26. Kate Smith 18 August 2015 / 11:30

I think people would love any kind of hamper, mixed or “area” specific but I do feel you will have more success if you mix the hampers with a bit of everything. Fans will enter and get your blog name out there more by entering EVERY hamper give away, rather than cherry picking their most preferred hamper, like the all makeup or all hair.

    Just my two cents ;).

  27. Kirsty Storar 18 August 2015 / 11:39

I love this idea and its a little bit like what I do with my mom and sister. We have a bit of a swap shop. Sometimes I might buy a pack of nail polishes or a haircare set and maybe one of the shades or the free gift or something just isn’t something I will use or like and so we’ll swap and trade products as we go. It just helps to keep bathroom and vanity cupboards organised ad not full of products that are just going to expire at the back of the cupboard.

ANYWAY, personally I love the idea of a combination hamper. Its like Christmas when you get an array of things :)
I also prefer entering right on the blog. Some social media entries have my colleagues giving me the stank eye. “I DONT NEED YOUR JUDGEMENT ABOUT MY PRODUCT OBSESSIONS, JANINE.” (I don’t really work with a Janine but I’ve included this hypothetical scenario for dramatic effect.)

  28. Falon Harris 18 August 2015 / 11:56

I think having the giveaways on your blog is the best, because like you mentioned, its rewarding your followers. On social media, anyone can enter and even win, even though they dont support or follow you.

I think a variety of products in a hamper is pretty cool :)

  29. Jeannette 18 August 2015 / 11:59

HI, Mix the goodies to make interesting parcels. I prefer to enter competitions on your blog. My twitter / FB / Instagram timeline becomes so cluttered with competitions entries, it is just not fun for my friends any more.

  30. Natalie M 18 August 2015 / 12:30

I prefer the specific type of goodie hampers as I am very specific with what I can and can’t put on my skin but I would still enter all of it and play father christmas with my friends if I won :)

I am not particular on how I enter though

  31. Kamilah 18 August 2015 / 12:31

Hi there… This is my first time stumbling across your blog and its really great!!! I found your “Products popping up” section as i was tirelessly searching for some hope that the Maybelline baby skin pore eraser was on its way to SA shores.. :-) Now i’m waiting for a chance to get to my nearest Foshini store.. “don’t let me down east gate” lol

Anyway i love that you are doing the giveaways as some of these must haves are way out of the budget price range and it would be nice to get to sample some of the higher end stuff… A range of goodies is always nice and definitely on your blog as it makes it easier for those who don’t use social media all that much.

I’m looking forward to reading more of your blog!!

  32. Vivella 18 August 2015 / 13:11

I would never read a blog just for the sake of entering competitions, but it is lovely to be able to have the opportunity to win something, as an extra perk. A combined giveaway parcel is a good idea, and keeping it on the blog is probably easier for all. I love your blog for the reviews, the entertainment factor and I love it when you let us know of new products that are about to be released! Thank you for your always beautifully presented posts.

  33. Arrie 18 August 2015 / 13:12

If I had to vote, I would probably say group products in different categories, like hair care, makeup etc. But I think that might just be my OCD coming out 😉 I think it’s a great idea to use extra products in a giveaway. It will de-clutter your space and people are going to love winning things – it’s a win-win (literally!) X

  34. Aléta Bruwer 18 August 2015 / 13:29

I personally think that it will be better to mix the products and give a hamper with different ones. I personally don’t have Instagram, Facebook or Twitter, so by posting in your blog is a the best option for me. I really enjoy reading your blogs, just to catch up what is a available etc.

  35. Rhea 18 August 2015 / 13:30

Such a thoughtful and beautiful idea. A combination would be great as it could be a “pay it forward” kinda experience… people who may not use all the products in the hamper can give them to friends and spread the love!

  36. Melissa de la Croix 18 August 2015 / 13:49

I like the idea of a Combined hamper :) a bit of everything would be nice. And i find it better and easier to enter on the blog all in one place.

  37. Prettiful Blog 18 August 2015 / 13:51

Great idea! I have also recently destashed my cupboard, and have been doing some giveaways. Especially when I get doubles from brands, I sometimes think they just grab a bunch of items and throw it in a box, without keeping note what they have already given.

I also agree on it not being seen as a giveaway site, cos I love and appreciate your reviews!

  38. Charlene 18 August 2015 / 14:01

Thanx a million for the pamper hampers that you will be putting together for us :)
I prefer to have various products to try all over! Competitions for me personally easy from your blog.
Getting super excited to enter, as you have the loveliest products! Enjoy your afternoon x

  39. Lalannie 18 August 2015 / 14:01

Either way, any prize would be a treat.
I prefer the blog and Rafflecopter widget for competitions as I don’t have a twitter account.

Your blog is definitely way more than just competitions. It is a reliable source of great reviews combined with great photography and even better content.

  40. Nikki 18 August 2015 / 15:14

    Love this idea!
If you have enough in your stash to make a combined hamper that would be great. It’s always nice to dip into a bit of everything. I suppose product specific hampers would also work well especially if you combine them with a ‘face of the day’ post.
I think the Rafflecopter works really well.
You are awesome! Thanks for the great blog!

  41. Jeanette Wessels 18 August 2015 / 15:58

I would LOVE a hamper of only make up :) !!!

    Love blog competitions!!!

  42. Carmen klassen 18 August 2015 / 16:06

Thank you for including us in everything. So very thoughtful of you. Hampers are awesome. Its almost like when you ordered a lot of stuff online and you delivery arrives its awesome. I think doing the giveaways on the blog is fair and everyone can join in. I have all forms of social media but that may not be fair for other blog readers as you have said.

    Rock on!!!

  43. Wardah 18 August 2015 / 16:22

A mix box would be my choice!

  44. R Fourie 18 August 2015 / 19:51

    Hallo Luzanne,

Die “giveaways” is omtrent ‘n groot bederf – D*A*N*K*I*E !!

Dis maar net my persoonlike voorkeur.

Terloops, ek hou daarvan om die review van skoonheidsprodukte en al die gepaardgaande inligting te lees. Veral produkte wat in Suid-Afrika verkrygbaar is. Ek verslind alles tot my beskikking. :-)

  45. Ailsa Jean Loudon 18 August 2015 / 20:10

I love the idea of an array of beauty products – and blog giveaways are the best for me personally :-)

  46. schantelle 18 August 2015 / 21:26

    Hi Luzanne

    * I would vote for a mixed selection of products for the giveaway hamper.
    * I vote for the competition to take place on your blog.
    * Love the Rafflecopter widget and that it choose a random winner.
*And Yes I have entered the Red Square #BeautyWinterWonders giveaway, fingers and toes crossed :)

Thanks for the awesome blog and great competitions.
    Enjoy :)

  47. Nerika 18 August 2015 / 22:21

I looooooove ur blog!! Definitely a hamper with different products and on your blog!!

  48. Linelle 19 August 2015 / 07:03

I would say specific type hampers are great that way you can enter for what you think would be suitable for your skin/hair and I also like that you can enter from the blog. All in one place :)

  49. Shaunees Davids 19 August 2015 / 07:21

Hi there…I think your blog is awesome….The idea of getting an array of products in one hamper sounds amazing. That way, if you cant use something due to skin type or hair type you can always share with family and friends.

I also love the fact that we can enter on your blog, as I’m one of those people that doesn’t have a twitter account *cant watch* and my facebook account (does it even still exist??…hehehe)

But I love reading your blog and entering one shot on the blog sounds good!!

  50. Ales 19 August 2015 / 07:26

I havent facebook or twitter so cant join giveaway:) if you sometimes do instagram giveaway I ll be happy:)) why you dont sell these new products?

  51. Nicky Johnson 19 August 2015 / 08:42

Definitely a mix bag as some people might not use a lot of the same product designated for a certain area. mix gives variety. and definitely on your blog as everyone does not have the certain media accounts at least everybody that reads your blog ans subscribes gets a chance to enter. Bring on the giveaways.

  52. Nicole 19 August 2015 / 13:21

    Hi Luzanne,

I think a mix n match hamper would be cool :-)
Also, I read your posts directly via your blog so that would be a good place to host them.

  53. Margo 19 August 2015 / 13:54

I think a combination of goodies in a hamper would be great and i think on your blog is the best place to enter since not everyone is active on all the social media platforms.

  54. CandiceB 20 August 2015 / 10:28

I started reading your blog because I loved that you catered for a wide range of products…products that could be purchased at Clicks/Dischem as well as products that were name brands and could only be purchased online from the States…the giveaways are an added bonus.

Most girls would love a combination of goodies just make it meaningful by adding a review of each as best you can. As South Africans we love freedom of choice right!! So having the giveaways on your blog is amazeballs [^_^]

  55. Celeste Booysen 20 August 2015 / 11:45

I love your blog, it’s so beautiful. I love all the helpful posts and would return competitions or not. But to answer your questions givaways that are blog based are great and a mixed beauty hamper would seal the deal for me because I don’t often have the luxury of trying different things at once. I usually have to stick to one new thing if I am treating myself so variety would be amazing.

  56. Alexa Pohl 24 August 2015 / 15:45

Thanks for your lovely blog! I like your honesty and that you’re always trying to keep things fresh & interesting. I’ve tried a lot of products on your recommendation, so thanks for your reviews!
I’d suggest separate giveaways for the more general giveaways and maybe a mixed hamper for a special giveaway (like your or the blog’s birthday). Tthen people can decide if they want to enter or not.
I think it’s good to keep giveaways all in one place, on the blog and Rafflecopter is always good/fair.

  57. gamieda 27 August 2015 / 21:49

A combination of items in a hamper is awesome, but winning any prize should be awesome to win.

  58. Simone Cameron 29 August 2015 / 13:32

I like the idea of a variety of products in a hamper :)

I agree though, you don’t want to become the ‘giveaway’ blog….and also I get a bit annoyed when I see names only pop up for giveaways, never commenting on regular non-giveaway posts. But you have a big following…and I do think that’s due to the content of your blog…and not just for the giveaways. You’re really the bestest SA beauty blogger in my humble opinion…giveaways or not…I’d keep coming back :)

  59. Wendy Bean 29 August 2015 / 14:24

Oooh, what a great idea! I think you should do a combo too, but perhaps ask people to only enter if the products up for grab is REALLY something that they want and need. I have a policy of not entering competitions if it’s not something I can use or really want, when I know there is someone out there more deserving and really interested in winning the item(s).
You’re so kind to do this for your regular blog readers and devoted fans – thanks so much!! Keep doing pretty :)

PS: As far as Rafflecopter goes, I think it may be the perfect tool, but it is nice to know that there are other platforms that also allow entry :) I trust your choice.

  60. Rhett Smyre 31 August 2015 / 02:49

I follow Pink Peonies through Google and Bloglovin and liked both the others. I liked both pages on FB. I follow you on Google friend and Bloglovin !

  61. Jackie Heijmans 29 October 2015 / 19:51

wow Jaclyn Hill is following you :)) thank you Luzanne for your beautiful blog, so glad I found it :)

  62. Brendah Kekana 23 November 2015 / 15:34

    A mixture is always good…

  63. shakira 17 December 2015 / 09:10

Hi there, i would love to try the benefits all time primer,Estee Lauder Double Wear Zero-Smudge Volume + Lift Mascara and the Camera Ready BB Cream Eyes SPF 15.

  64. shakira 17 December 2015 / 09:18

Hi there, i would love to try the Benefits all time primer,EL Double Wear Zero-Smudge Volume + Lift Mascara and the Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream Eyes . I am also loving your blog (recently discovered thanks to my sister) and was hoping you could maybe post some information on body foundation. I use this for the bad scarring i have on my legs but tend to use just normal foundation as the Kryolan range very seldom has the colour I require (they keep a body foundation range). At the moment I am using the Sorbet BB cream colour- dark , with some normal baby powder over so it doesn’t get onto my clothes but I was wondering if there were any other products available. I have been so desperate at times that I have even used my EL double wear henna (which works out to be quite an expensive exercise considering I am pretty tall and applying this basically as a lotion) so its doesn’t look like I have scurvy. Any tips on this would be appreciated.
    Thanks for the great insight.
    Happy holidays

  65. Lynette 17 February 2016 / 11:26

Hi Luzanne! You are awesome! And not to mention, Jaclyn Hill is following you!!! You must be doing something right girl! Happy Birthday by the way! Hope you spoil yourself! How is this, it’s YOUR birthday and YOU are giving away gifts!! How generous of you! Anyways, I am a huge fan and always take your product reviews seriously. So keep reviewing! :-)
